I noticed Kirby Robobot had a few references to Mother. There's the ESP ability, which just makes Kirby Ness/Ninten, and you first get it in a modernized town. The plot is also similar to Mother 3's, in how invaders come and modernize everything, and the main character has to stop it. But that may just be a coincidence.

I think some of his gay friends may have had an influence on him, and that's why he made Tony. I think one of the kids in the beginning of the game in the treehouse also tries to hit on Ness, but I may just be remembering wrong.

Itoi is still working, he runs a private office. Him and his office are as wacky as you would think. He has a blog he constantly updates and still writes. I believe he also developes apps, I know he released a facebook but for pets. Recently he seems to be very active about lost pets, posting about lost animals and developing apps for locating lost pets. He's a bit older now, 67, still lively as ever.
