I used to go and volunteer a lot at conventions as a teen and when I was a young adult, but I find them absolutely cringy as fuck these days. Just a massive circlejerk over corporate commodification and cred is based on how much you base your identity around a pop culture product.
Maybe I'm being harsh, but I'm jaded as fuck about them these days.
Personally, I like events like Burning Man and other Burns/Doofs etc for cosplaying these days, far more actual creativity, no commercialization, way better community (Conventions are cliqey as fuck) and way more fun.
