I legitimately regret buying Xcom 2. I loved the classics, I surprising loved the reboot just as much as the original albeit in different ways. I was so hyped to hear everything they were doing for Xcom 2. Ended up getting a pretty ok game with some serious technical issues. Was hoping just like the reboot, their expansion pack would put the game over the top again, but unlike Enemy Within which was clearly made to address minor issues players had with how the game progressed and add more content where people thought it was lacking, the season pass was clearly thought up before the game was even out and just adds piles and piles of problems that make the game just plain awful to play. I have never known an expansion pack or DLC pack to fuck up a game this badly before.

Underwater had great potential and played fine outside of the 3DS, Capcom retardation, however, had them trying to force it on it and never adding a second great fight like lagi for it.
"Verticality" of 4th gen is by far the worst thing to ever happen to MH, that shit ruined nearly every hunt with ledges and slopes that turned any open area into monsters sliding on them like walls. At least underwater only applied to a few monsters but ledges make every hunt worse. You can't defend it with a straight face.
And in the end, completely disregarding the rare underwater fights 3U had the best maps and monsters by a large margin. Even weapon balance was better.

About verticality, I hate to say this but you have to learn to utilise it well for hunts. If you do, it opens up many more options for you to take down a Monster. The only problem is during multiplayer, but they fixed it in X. It sounds like you are unable to adapt to a perfectly good feature that extends the gameplay. Get good.

What IS useful is mounting, something that you at least could do with two weapons.
Mounting itself was a fantastic addition, helps melee breaks some hard to reach parts and adds a good breather for the team in multiplayer. Their mistake was locking it to IG and lance pretty much.
X however fixes that by adding aerial, in my opinion all weapons should have had a jumping attack by default instead.
And with jumping not needing platforms anymore, they should be removed or turned into decoration at the edge of the level like it how always was in older titles.

Well, I just couldn't play any videogames for a month or two after that

oh boy oh boy this was the last time i played a spooky walking simulator
I paid £35 for Skyrim at launch, and even though at the time I was the kind of just-turned-18 pleb who thought Fallout 3 was a great game andbetter than New Vegas, I was still pretty disappointed and only put 40 hours in, not bothering to finish it.
That's reaching though, it really doesn't bother me. I'm now smarter with my money and have more of it to begin with. Nothing worth truly regretting in my life.
