Has a video game ever made you feel stupid?
Every single multiplayer game, when I suffer a stupid death
>>343817565
Wait a minute..that claw
>>343816597
i dont get this. someone explain
>>343818034
DSP played black mesa source.
In this section, you have to crouch jump to jump up on these pipes, normal jumping doesn't work. DSP didn't know this, and previoualy ignored the crouchjump tutorial. After like an hour of stacking props, he found out about crouch jumping.
>>343818315
God how will he survive strafe jumping and bhops.
This game made me feel like a retard in a lot of ways.
>>343818315
>DSP
>ignored the crouchjump tutorial
When will he learn not to do that? People like him are the reason there are tutorials you can't skip.
I can't into chords.
>>343818712
To be fair, crouchjumping is fairly archaic now, and i think the area that triggers the crouchjump prompt doesn't actually need a crouchjump to complete. And the prompt is a small box that shows up on the far left.
I spent hours looking for a CD case in game. I thought I missed an item somewhere.
>>343817565
this puzzle fucked me up
seriously, why the fuck is the combination on the claw? it makes no sense, it's like having a key+combination safe and writing the combination on the key.
>>343819645
IIRC you have a CD case in your inventory at that part, which is what I checked
What in the goddamned fuck
i just had this weirdest fucking moment of déja vu
I feel like I've seen this exact fucking thread before, does anyone feel the same way?
The same replies, the same images used what the fuck
>>343817565
i remember reading the quest and trying to figure out where what the combination was until I just bruteforced it. Felt like a retard when later in game at another similar gate and looked at the claw.

We are amidst strange beings in a strange land. The flow of time itself is convoluted; with centuries old posts phasing in and out.
Can anybody top mine? Ran around the map for like 15 minutes, trying to read an e-mail, looking at a crumpled piece of paper or listening to any audio logs thinking it might contain the code for this keypad.
>>343819951
It's an MO (magneto-optical) disk.
They look like a giant floppy disk with a double sided CD-RW inside. I coped a shitload of games onto a stack of them a long time ago.
>>343818720
Really makes you think...
>>343817565
>tfw went thru half of the dungeons and shit without realizing the answer is on the back of the claw
God I never thought once they would do that
Monkey Island 2's "monkey wrench" puzzle.
To be fair, I was seven and didn't know what a monkey wrench was
>>343820448
Yea i did the same shit anon. Literally checked every square inch of the level 4 times then slapped myself on the forehead and laughed when i found it
>>343817565
>tfw knew about the combination beforehand because they showed the mission as a demo before Skyrim came out
I honestly don't know whether or not I would've had trouble with it.
>>343818720
really a smart game for smart gamers
Deadly P's chess puzzle
It's clearly one of those things written for Japanese people who don't know what the pieces are named. The solution is literally written out for you and it's so fuckin obvious that it didn't even register as a puzzle to me.

I laughed at myself for overthinking it so much.

I played Twin Snakes. All they said was "package". Obviously, I eventually resorted to a walkthrough.
Sliding block puzzles in 2 were fine but this one fucked me up.
>>343817565
This shit was retarded, I spent like 20 minutes looking at the carvings on the walls that were vaguely related to the puzzle inputs and then gave up and looked up a guide and felt like a dumbass

For some reason, the Raedric fight in Pillars of Eternity made me feel stupid. I don't know why I felt stupid in particular, but I definitely felt that way specifically.
Pillars of Eternity has a bad habit of making bosses require completely different strategies than the other 99% of fights in the game.
>>343816597
Holy crap, this was my introduction to dsp. He seems so more unenjoyable now.
I couldn't figure out how to get the key from the mouse in the tutorial dungeon of Phantom Hourglass.
I eventually grabbed a pot from a few rooms earlier and threw it at the mouse and moved on never figuring it out.

BoFIII, when you had to find Honey in Castle Wyndia. I had to look up a guide and it wasn't until that point that I learned you could rotate the camera.
In my defense, the guy I borrowed it from didn't have the manual.
>>343819835
the puzzles doors were meant to be opened only by thinking creatures so as to keep draugr in and trap womb raiders at the same time
>>343820983
That doesn't even make sense. Why would a knight taking a pawn tot he queen create checkmate?
Reminds me of an old Knight Rider clip where, for no real reason, Hasslehoff just says "and as they say in chess, checkmate" when he catches the bad guy at the end.
>>343822880
At one point in phantom hourglass it asks you shout into the mic in order to get an item. I did that, and then the guy was like "Did you really shout? You could have snapped your fingers or something".

For the longest time I honestly did not know how ironsights worked. Did you line up the top edge/tip with the target? Or just barely cover the target with it?

I'm currently feeling like a retard in HL2.
Replaying after years and years. Just went through a room with a bunch of the whirly-blade guys, to a big tube shaped room. Turned a lever to raise water level. Don't know what to do now.

NEW MEDABOTS GAME WHEN
I never learned the bomb roll mechanic earlier because it's possible to get through the tutorial by just throwing the bombs. I was honestly stumped at this section of the game. No idea how to progress.
A lot of parts in the game made me feel like that even though you get handheld throughout the game. I felt you don't get told anything relevant and anything that is relevant is skipped past because you think it's just more fluff.

>>343816597
Every single GSG.
Pic related is me playing Civ.
>>343823509
I went through something like that.
When i was younger, i got a copy of Soul Reaver 2 on PC in english. I liked the movement, the fighting and all (Barely made it just mashing buttons until i could find what worked). I stood 20 minutes in front of the fence in the Sarafan stronghold until i just kept Foward pushed on the Spectral Realm and passed through. I gave up on the swamp because i didn't know you could climb up certain walls.
Around ten years later i picked it back up and then i could truly appreciate the dialogues, the mechanics and all. I left it on hold after getting the Light Reaver and emulated the first SR game, making it ten times better once i knew where all the abilities and references came from.
Defiance seemed weird with the changes. Haven't been able to play Blood Omen on a current machine. I'm glad i had to wait to fully enjoy the games, though.
>>343819645
To be honest, this isn't even that big of a deal.
It's 140.15. I remember it since all I did was try every number from 140.00, and got it on my 15th try.
most strategy games in general
>>343827980
Did you just call Civ grand strategy? 4X is pretty much the easiest subgenre of Strategy in general.
>>343829712
As I said, I'm bad.
Playing Golden Sun TLA as a kid, the entire thing. I got stuck for six months at the puzzle inside the statue at Gabomba village (an utterly uncomplicated guide-the-water-to-the-right-pipe puzzle). I got stuck for nearly a year in the Jupiter Lighthouse before I figured out I had to visit give the SHAMAN ROD to the leader of the SHAMAN VILLAGE.
Replaying the games years later just made me cringe at my ten year old self.
>>343824165
Fuck me, I died like 12 times and reloaded the area for that puzzle
>>343818720
In BS:I defense, it played a role in the story. There was 121 Bookers before you who have failed to rescue Liz. Doing this puzzle was just to indicate you that you're the 122 to ring the bell.
>>343824563
it's actually extremely logical and used in real life too
using it in a game without climbing mechanics is a excellent solution
>>343817565
