Is it? I think my VLR playtime was also 20-22 hours.
>>343760180
I'm satisfied. Game has issues (little original music, don't think the "cinematic" approach was better than the traditional VN format, fragment structure is still a bit fucked even with the plotwists justifying it, etc.) and you can tell the game was rushed/didn't include everything Uchi wanted to put in. Having said that, if 999 and VLR are 10/10s or 9/10s, ZTD is a solid 8/10. For the final game capping off a trilogy, they could have fucked it up significantly worse.
>>343761816
>n Uchi expect that we hype something that will use the same trope for the 999th time?
Uchi should use all tropes from R11 instead of invisible old man with complex motives, magic aliens, x-mens and power of friendship.
Baby colic > everything in ZTD
I've seen a lot of discussion put into this game regarding a lack of understanding for the twist and how certain things pan out with the transporter or why characters do certain things that they do, but personally, I'm more of a big picture kind of guy that can forgive plotholes here and there if they don't majorly get in the way of things. That being said, besides the little details that may bother, I'm more annoyed by a lot of the creative decisions that were made with this game, especially considering that this was supposed to be the final entry that wraps everything up, so I'm just gonna go through some things point by point that bothered me quite a bit once the game was over, since I honestly don't even know what specifically to focus on.
Diana, Phi and Sigma being a part of the game makes a lot of sense because they factor into the story a lot, not just in this game individually but also linking directly from the last game. Junpei and Akane feel a little out of place overall, I know that they also tie into VLR, but that sort of feels like the ONLY reason they're in the game, because besides actually tying their plots from this game to the next one, nothing much else happens with them plotwise regarding anything necessary to their pasts or character connections. Then you get to the rest of the cast with Carlos, Sean, Mira and Eric, and their inclusions come off as mostly unnecessary in the grand scheme of things, and that the only reason they were included is so that they could round out the number of participants to 9, just because that's how it was in the other games, because once you learn the basic backstory of these characters no other kind of interesting revelations or character developments happen, and really, you could have removed or changed any of them to help tie things into the plot better in relation to either any of the other participants or zero.
>Mira is a virgin
>Diana is a slut
I honestly didn't see that coming.
>>343762597
The main twist of the game also doesn't stack up to the twists of the last two games, from either a logical or emotional perspective. In the first game, you spend the entire game asking yourself a few specific questions, like "Why was I kidnapped and put through this" and "Who is Zero?" and ultimately, everything built up to answering and resolving these questions, same with the sequel, but with ZTD these questions almost come off as less important or less pertinent due to the way that everyone volunteered to be a part of the experiment, and the "Who is Zero?" question is given less room to work with since you know that it's not going to be one of the on screen characters, because you straight up see Zero walk up to everyone at the start for the coin flip, so by the time you see who Zero actually is, it's no where near as shocking as finding out who Zero was in the previous two games.
In the first two games, you were dumped into a situation where you're a (Seemingly) normal person with a variety of other characters, which over time you slowly come to converse with and understand over the course of the game, in ZTD, all of the characters are split into teams of 3, and only ever stay with their respective team members for the course of the game, which unlike the first two games, means you get a lot of redundancy in terms of characterization for the different situations the characters find themselves in, instead of having the characters constantly split apart with different team members for different conflicts or information. I would have actually forgiven this system if something interesting had been done with it involving how your perspective of time and space was being played with, but ultimately everything was pretty much how it seemed to be with the exception of the needless ward twist.
>>343762661
The Fragment system is an interesting idea that could have interesting applications for a story like this, but not only doesn't justify it's own existence by the end, but creates problems the series didn't have before this point. The game starts off on a similar note of being trapped in a mysterious environment by a crazed killer and being forced to play a game to escape, but unlike the other games in the series, falls into a massive repeating pattern due to the memory erasing drugs essentially meaning that almost every fragment has to begin under the assumption that it could have been the first one you picked, meaning that consistent character development doesn't start until about the 2/3 mark of the game when they finally start shifting through the timelines, since they can finally start retaining memories, and don't need to explain their pasts again to the other characters.
This isn't even so much a criticism about the game itself and more a problem with the fact that this is third game we've encountered these things in. In the first game, it was a genuine mystery as to what was happening, because it was the first game in the series, and wasn't building off any of kind of established plot. You wake up on a sinking ship, you all have bombs placed inside your chests, and overall there's this kind of oppresive, sickening feeling in the air of the entire game, as it feels like death has weight and there are actual horrible things happening. The second game tones down the oppressive atmosphere and instead focuses more on the mystery of the situation and characters, which I was totally fine with, personally.
Blick-Winkel here, don't forget the ZTD stream starts next Friday at the usual time.
hitbox / blick-winkel
>>343762597
I think Mira and Eric are just there to introduce an element of threat. A game with nine Luna's wouldn't be very scary.
So, what parts were ripped off from Ever17 this time? What comes to mind for me is:
>awkwardly shoehorned inexpressive dog companion (Coco's dog/Gab)
>characters stuck in shelter eating bland rations, resulting in one of them eventually freaking out at the tedium and eating the same food every day (Kid/Diana)
And of course, the SHIFT shenanigans at the end are a given.
>>343762742
The problem with ZTD is that it simultaneously wants to recreate the oppressive atmosphere of the first game, while also recreated the sense of mystery from the second game, the problem is that at this point, we know that death doesn't hold much meaning anymore, so the death scenes where they either try to make you feel sad at a characters death, or make you feel sickened with the way they die, don't hold much weight. On the other end of the coin, because we're all so used to crazy twists at this point, the entire game is also spent trying to theorycraft who the killer is/what the killers motivation is/what the twist is, and no matter what any of those things wound up being, would never match up to what anyone else would have come up with, and in general would never be as shocking, since everyone is going into the game expecting a crazy twist at this point.
Another issue I found myself not liking was the overuse of Blue Bird Lamentation. I understand that perhaps there were budgetary concerns and maybe they couldn't have as much music as they would have liked to work with, but a song that was used to such emotional power as that one in VLR being used anytime anything happened with D-Team really sucked away any kind of emotional value it would have had, although I guess this point is probably open to personal opinion.
Also Aliens, but I really feel like I don't even need to go into detail about why that plot device doesn't work.
Sorry, I just beat the game and needed to vent my feelings
>>343757845
The other teams knew Q for five days at DCOM, and I agree that Sigma, Phi and Akane should have been suspicious.
However, remember that for the majority of the time, Q was only with Q team. Meaning C and D had no idea Sean even existed until the latter parts of the game.
Maria was not suspicious since she was conspiring with Q.
Eric is definitely suspicious and it showa in his actions.
>>343760742
here you go
>>343762597
How does Akane feel out of place? Her entire motivation in VLR stems from what happened in ZTD. And Junpei comes because of Akane. Carlos makes sense because he's a potential SHIFTer. Sean has connections to Zero. Mira for that wildcard factor, and Eric cause he's an obsessed loser.
>>343762838
>Another issue I found myself not liking was the overuse of Blue Bird Lamentation. Agreed. It's the same problem that MGS has with the MGS3 salute: Fucking fantastic the first time around, arguably the best moment in the entire series. In almost every substantial game they milk it.

finished it now. the beginning was great, then it slowed down, mid to late game was again pretty good, i didn't like the ending. I have questions1. where the fuck is kyle, is he the dog
2. how did mira kill junpei
3. delta was only in q's team right?
4. when did mira and loveboi learned robot's name is sean? i think they call him sean in another timeline, where sean didn't learn he is sean yet. although i'll accept he told them after he learned it from another timeline. still retarted tho.
5. what was the deal with transporter room weird puzzle thing that i haven't solved. something like a card reader that laughs. there was another puzzle-like thing in another room that i skipped if i remember correctly
The problem with the twist isn't that it doesn't work, it's that the game has to pull so much contrived, convenient bullshit for it to work. Just dropping some shadows here and there doesn't get around the absurd movements you have to assume a crippled, blind old fucko is making in-between scenes to hide himself from the camera for seemingly no reason besides to hide the twist. The fact that Q-team knows Sean's name yet NEVER refers to him by it a single time before the reveal is also another example of how far you have to reach to make this dumb shit work.
Wait a fucking second.
In the apocalypse ending, when Sigma loses both arms he's like "OH WELL I guess I'll spend the next 45 years working on the next nonary game to train my old self to SHIFT".
But why? Why not just SHIFT by himself?
>>343763624
I'd be more critical of this normally, but honestly the fact the game even came out is a big deal. I can deal with a few dropped plot strings.

I guess what my issue boils down to is that the characters have a sliding scale of importance, where you have characters that are important to the plot (Sigma, Diana, Phi) either for what they do in this game or for what they do in the next game, but having characters that are only there to create conflict with other character like Mira or Eric feels kind of weak for what is supposedly the final entry in the series, and like you said, Junpei is there not because he actually has anything to do, but just because Akane is there, which I think is a disservice to his character. I also really don't feel like Akane needed to be there for the next game to take place, unless there's something in particular I'm forgetting about VLR that suggested she took place in the ZTD experiment?

I was waiting the entire game for something to happen with Eric, like either he turns his act around and realizes what kind of person he is and then does something heroic, or you find out it was all an act and he was behind part of the plot, or that there was SOMETHING up with his character and his reason for being alongside these other, far more important characters, but no, he stays a pathetic shithead the entire game

They all should have been epilogue scenes (except the Mira one, that one is fan fiction-tier garbage).
Anyone weirded out by how Mira got zero comeuppance throughout the entire game including the ending? She even fucking marries Eric in the real ending, and I guess that's.. okay? She's still a psychopathic serial killer but somehow at some point no-one cares any more.
>>343765293
Yeah i know them. Let me rephrase my question. Which visions were related to the story at all? Carlos was a shifter before the game, Akane also figures this out. Carlos hears her voice once in the game, but it does nothing. Her sister having that disease was unnecessary.

It's stupid to pick apart what Delta knew dude. We'll never be able to prove it was bullshit because it was so vague how he got all his info. He gets it all from reading minds but also reading minds of SHIFTERs from other universes giving him a complete understanding of everything that will happen.

Her killing cured her, so it makes everything okay. So basically, if Ace actually succeeded, he would be forgiven according to this game. And Akane isn't enraged Mira caused her parents to die because reasons.
It's not that it's the worst twist ever, but the twists in the previous two games at least felt like they tied the plots of those games together, having it turn out to be some old fuck in a wheelchair just off to the side the entire time doesn't feel like that big of a revelation
It also feels like they REALLY went out of their way to hide it from you when you find out what the twist was, which I didn't get at all from the first game, and the second game really only has about one or two things that don't hold up to scrutiny, but you REALLY have to suspend your disbelief to buy the twist in this game
The entire library scene doesn't work AT ALL if you know that they could turn around and kill the deaf mute guy and just walk out of the facility

This game wasn't so much about the crazy 4th wall breaking. it was just a wild ride of mostly contrived twists and silly moments. I don't think it's meant to be taken as seriously as the other games and isn't meant to be neat and tidy wrapup. They just go nuts with time paradoxes and shifting and shit that aspects of the writing seems almost intentionally "poor" to be fun. Maybe with a hint of MGS2 style fucking with fan expectations.
With how it's presented, it seems like you were expected to already know about the 4th wall stuff, I feel bad for newcomers as playing this first would ruin the impact of that shit.

Akane, Sigma and Phi just feel strange.
I understand this Akane isn't future Akane but a different one but she is still the leader of secret organization and a mastermind that helped create the previous Nonary Game, she should be a little more self aware and not jump to hasty conclusion.
Same for Sigma and Phi.
To be honest I also disliked how in some decisions the characters just had to play the role of "choose yes" or "choose no" despite their general characterization.
>>343767229
Junpei doesn't make sense though. He doesn't really care for this shit, he just wants to be with Akane. If he does this save the world stuff it's because she drags him into it.
The grafix/presentation in ZTD were a real mixed bag for me.
On one hand, the more action-y scenes looks pretty good. Axe fight in particular. And it makes sense from a Delta's security cameras POV point.
On the other, there's so much "pan slowly while characters talk" that really didn't benefit at all from the changes (not that great mouth flappings). And no narration, which means no inner monologue jokes/quips.

Wait so let me get this straight:
in some alternate timeline, the religious fanatic actually did start a nuclear war, which prompted Sigma and Diana to go into a bomb shelter, which then lead to them having twins and sending them into the past so that they can escape the nuclear war, right?
If that were not the case, then Delta would've been the catalyst to his own creation, which would imply a bootstrap paradox in which the origins of Delta and Phi are virtually impossible to locate.

That's literally 999 though. Young Akane was trapped inside the incinerator and made a connection with Junpei to save herself. However this was Junpei in the future who was trapped in the 999 game. So for it to actually happen, she had to re-create the conditions needed for Junpei to be in the 999 game in order for the sequence of events to actually happen. It's the same thing.

>also Dio is a clone
>also Luna is a robot
>also the Earth is red and it's recovering from a biohazard that nearly wiped the human race off the map
The most 999 had to explain was the morphogenetic field.
and ZTD had the liberty of throwing aliens into the story with the transporter and literally everyone in the story just glosses over that like it's nothing

>>343768640
Yep, I was super happy with how much better the puzzles were in VLR.
>>343768421
I've played both series, I do.
I want to fuck phi, but I dont have an 18 incher like her dad
I'm curious if there is any secrets in game? Just like start new walkthrough but use all passwords etc?
>I want to believe
>>343768824
I thought the best game over was when I intentionally chose the wrong antidote as Carlos and before Junpei dies he lets out one final "DAMN YOU CARLOS" before falling over
That or Diana's "MAYBE IT'S JUST A PAIN DRUG WE WERE INJECTED WITH WE SHOULDN'T DRINK THIS ANTIDOTE" as everyone convulses to death on the floor
Maybe this game is just a comedy in disguise

was there a reason for junpei saying they blew up the HQ for free the soul? I haven't played vlr in a while was that like an unanswered question on that game? if it wasn't then what was the point of saying it aside from junpei being COMPLEX
>>343769105

>Akane had access to the morphogenetic field and looked for a future where she was saved. And it just so happened to be a future where she created the nonary game just to save her fucking ass from getting incinerated. But for that future to exist that would imply that she was saved by Junpei helping her solve the sudoku puzzle in the first place.
>which would mean that no matter what, Junpei saving akane and Akane recreating the nonary game was predetermined
>Sigma is a living bootstrap, forever forced to live an infinite time of constantly getting his arms chopped off and being cooped up in the moon for 45 infinite years while getting his younger self to suffer the same endless hell
>Akane's bootstrap is further bootstrapped by the fucking fact that Delta's Free the Soul funded the very first nonary game

>>343769195
I guess they had to explain how Junpei could give all those infodumps about FtS in VLR. Still, it was just fucking hilarious how Akane is being all careful and slowly explaining shit about this secret super cult, and he just goes "Oh yeah, I blew up their HQ with Seven a couple of months ago. Were they important?"
>>343769195
I think he was just giving her the lowdown of what he and seven got up to after she peaced out
>>343769261
It's not just the noise. Blanks still fire shit.
>>343769138
>not giving Eric all different answers on who killed Mira to see what he says
>>343760180
I think it's the weakest of the trilogy for reasons that were pointed out in these threads numerous times, but I still enjoyed it and won't sperg out over it being a huge betrayal like some in this thread are doing.
Alternate timelines cannot create bootstrap paradox
Now I know why Diana was so horny for Sigma. Her pussy was so used up and roasty, she needed a 18 incher inside her just to feel anything.
>Akane does the nonary game
>everyone forgives her
>Delta does the nonary game for the sole purpose of saving literally all of mankind at the cost of toying with the lives of 8 people and a robot
>hurr durr we're all fucking mad
>>343769356
>Dad doesn't work
>>343758749
Really? It made sense considering what was previously established about power amplification when there were people who could access the Morphogenic Field around each other. I'm willing to believe that even those with very basic powers could SHIFT if they have 6 well experienced and stressed SHIFTers around them.
>>343768237
Yes. That definitely satisfied.
>>343769356
I spent so much time on trying to calm down Eric and his shotgun
>>343769432

>>343769432
She was probably used to go to random bars and putting out easily for any stranger willing to fuck her.
>>343769250
Time isn't linear. "What you do in the future affects the past". They try to explain all this in VLR by saying that time doesn't work the way you are envisioning it.
Imagine time moving forward is water running through a stream. That movement of the water is the movement we call time. Now imagine that water doesn't actually flow from anywhere, it's just there. It's always been there, flowing the way it does and if you go further back in the stream you'll find the water didn't change it at all.
Maybe that's not the best analogy but it's something like that. The hard part about this is it's hard for us to conceptualize another dimension.
>>343764067
Gotta fix that shit.
>>343769463

>>343758749
It's implied (and I think even outright stated in this game) that every human is capable of accessing the field.
>>343760062
This is a blatant lie. This game was not made by the Zero Escape staff at all, but a completely unrelated team. We aren't "their" fans.
>>343769551
The way she was pounding those drinks down, and was willing to go on all four and lick off the ground, I bet she's the kind of psycho girl that pretends to be shy and coy, and then goes off to drink with her nurse friends and just fucks random dudes in the bathroom.

>>343769565

>>343769583
Carlos will shoot Delta's leg off, just to make him wheelchair-bound.
>>343769704
It's even further implied that humans lives in the field
>>343769414
>For the timeline in which Junpei participates in the Nonary game and accesses the morphogenetic field to save Akane to exist, Akane would have had to have been saved by Junpei prior in order for her to create the nonary game anyways.
>the entirety of 999 involved young akane looking through multiple iterations of the second nonary game in hopes of finding the one where Junpei helps solve the sudoku puzzle
it doesn't matter if the time isn't linear, that particular timeline is a bootstrap regardless, from the fact Akane actually grew up to recreate the nonary game instead of dying.
>>343769565
There's no fucking way that Dio is better than either Luna or Diana, or that Eric is better than Junpei

Yea it seems a lot of people missed the purpose of putting a quantum computer and another robot in the game.
The purpose was to show how they are the exact same as a human and the morphogenetic field. Just like the quantum computer, the field contains every possible outcome of the universe. Like the computer, the human mind truly resides in the field.
The interesting thing (and they brush on this a few times) is what does this mean for the concept of individuality? Are the yous in different timelines different beings? Or are you all running off the same part of the field like a robot who only has access to part of this information stored within the main computer it's wirelessly attached to?
I think the game strongly implies that characters are actually the same across every timeline but their lack of memory of other timelines makes it hard for their human consciousness to grasp that. Delta seems to grasp it perfectly and understand his death in one timeline means nothing.
>>343770069
...that's not really an easter egg.
>>343769592
You're right, I forgot about that.
>On December 22, 2028, Clover and Alice were about to plan their infiltration of the real facility near Los Angeles, California. Unfortunately, Akane Kurashiki knocked them out with Soporil gas before they could do so.
She even did it beforehand too.
Man, Kyle's story was pretty heartfelt, I wanted to see a conclusion to it. I'm pretty bummed out about him being completely left out this game.

It could be the earlier explanation, where Delta's original birth involved the history with Nuclear warfare.
Delta saw this and wanted to create a history where this didn't happen, but also maintain his own existence as well as Phi's. Hence why the Decision game was created.
And if the decision game were to fail, then his next step was to release a virus that would nearly wipe out mankind.
Delta's choice to create the decision game altered the future to where his origins changed to where he was his own catalyst.
I WANT D-TEAM TOHAVE A HAPPY ENDING
