Skyrim is exceedingly shallow and poorly designed in all the aspects that Oblivion got moderately right.
Even the UI and menus are garbage, not to mention the combat system, spell variety, crafting of every sort, enchantments, questlines, and their impact on the world and each other... Even the visuals are grayscale bullshit compared to Oblivion's beautiful variety.
And this last point is one I admit is totally fuelled by nostalgia: The Bethesda faces of Oblivion are better than those of Skyrim.

Yes, it's worth playing. I'd say about 20 hours for the main game, but to get the full experience, you'll need to replay the second half of the game for the second ending. Then, you'll probably want to just look up the remaining endings.
