Can someone please give me any tips on how to have fun in this game? It depends on the map and who the other team is likely to pick imo. For example, Junkrat is good on attack if you're sure the other team is going to have a Bastion and/or Torb. Plus any area where they're crunched up at is good for them.
Soldier 76 is a good all-round character and is really good on defense maps because the attack is generally going to be in one concentrated area which is good for his ultimate.

That's easy to counter, the only way a bastion is really able to shine is if he gets first strike on an enemy. People discount his recon mode, if he can breach past the enemy front/choke point his self healing makes him a nightmare to deal with. Flankers need to double back and chase him down otherwise you'll end up dropping any defenders coming back 1v1. If you sit in one spot in sentry mode it's gg bastion.

It's a mix of win/loss, individual play and enemy skill level. If the game thinks you should win, you'll get less XP at the end. If the game thinks you were being carried you'll get less points.

They are switching to Tracer because the game is in overtime. They do it on the fly just to get on the point and prolong it.
On payload or KOTH's switching randomly to Torbjorn doesn't fly because the spawn is usually far enough away you can't add to that you'll need time to set up turrets which you usually won't get because Tracers can kill them really easy as your building them.
The best counter is Winstons. Nothing but Winsons.

What you need to understand is that overwatch is an objective-based team shooter. Evry hero has situations where they're useful and situations where they're not. It might be the map, it might be the enemy comp, or it might just be the way the game is flowing.
It's okay to main a hero, but you should have a backup. Tracer can dash behind the shield. McCree typically approaches from a flank, and has a flashbang to protect himself in close quarters. But as others in this thread have stated, Soldier is best when attacking from a distance, especially on high ground. Can he flank? sure. But he can't sprint snd shoot at the same time, and he's loud as HELL when he's running, so he'll be easily punished if he tries to run in for a flank.

McCree has fallen off because of how low his damage output to people like Reinhardt is now. One of the big reasons he was picked was because of how much damage Fan did to Reinhardt's shield. Once that was nerfed he fell off huge.

He's always been able to do that. The problem is now when McCree does that he might as well just run because he's not killing Reinhardt.
The reason why McCree still sees play is because his single fire is still pretty damn good and he's a good counter to Tracer, but comp teams say that in like 90% of situations where you can pick McCree Solider 76 is the better choice.
Most teams that want to counter tanks now go Reaper instead of McCree.
