I got into Overwatch because I found Tracer cute. I don't have a competitive mindset, so no matter how hard I try, I just can't get into fighting games like other people. I don't like tournaments. Friendlies, I'll play anytime, but I just don't like the tournament setting/environment.
That, and I just end up dropping a lot of fighting games due to an unwillingness to invest hours in it and a lack of interest overall. The only games that have lasted with me are UMVC3 (love this game) and Soul Calibur (same here). I play SSB as well, but I'm going to stop by next year. I can just feel it.
I miss couch co-op. Playing online just isn't that fun to me.

I don't like MMORPGs just RPGs. Most MMORPGs seem like downgraded RPGs with Online-Support or whatever. I just don't like lifeless NPCs that are just standing there and give you quests.
I don't like Online that much in general, I rather like to play coop games. Sadly there aren't that many good coop games anymore. Actually there never were that many.
I know it seems stupid but I would even be satisfied by just the singleplayer game with a second/third/fourth player, there doesn't need to be an extra campaign/story for them. Never liked to watch my friends play or let them watch me play.

I hate open world games because the games with it can never motivate me enough to keep exploring. Well it's just so similar. Every play style is the same. Wether you're using a lightweight sword or a giant hammer, you play the exact same.
In DS3 I beat the game, then immediately created another character and made him a mage. After that I made another character, this one was about using a lightweight weapon, namely the Broadsword, and it was an entirely different beast to my Zweihander on the first playtrough. Bosses/mobs that were cake before gave me trouble and viceversa.
In Bloodborne, I beat the game with a Kirkhammer. Then went on another game and used only lightweight, as a Skill build. Didn't get far, I was playing the exact same game.
I wanted to make a bloodtinge character focused on guns: Nope. Then an Arcane character: Oh wait it's the same for about 50% of the game... No thanks.
And honestly the actual gameplay wasn't all that great either. Bloodborne's gameplay was made for bosses. Playing against regular mobs it's just... Boring really. Mostly R1 spam. Playing against bosses it was freaking fantastic, but then again the only bosses that gave me trobule were Ludwig and OoK. Any other boss in the game I did in <3 tries and a big amount of them I just one-try'd because they all play the exact damn same. Just be agressive. No strategy involved.

I've done this with Marvel Heroes and World of Warcraft to name two. I tried with Saint's Row 3 and 4, but those games do some janky optimization shit that makes it not work properly. I'm considering downloading Champions Online or pirating Fable 2 or 3 for the same reason. I've also made inflation porn out of most of the female characters in Dota 2 using Blender, and is the entire reason I learned how to use the software. I want to find the Overwatch models/materials too for the same reason, mostly for Mercy and Widow. I regret nothing as long as nobody finds out who I am IRL. In before Dobson, but no.

The exact same used to happen to me. Whenever I played a Zelda game, I'd think it was alright until the game opened up and told me to go whenever I wanted and right there, I lost interest.

FNV was my #1 game in playtime until about two years ago. I bought it when it first came out and it was my first and only Steam game for my first year of college. I greatly disagree. Each weapon in BB is its own unique playstyle and the variety is excellent. Being aggressive is just the way to play it, it's interesting you'd fault the game for making you play aggressive and that playstyle actually being the best way to play. It's ESPECIALLY interesting that you'd fault it for being "r1 spammy" while simultaneously saying you prefer das3. DaS3 is the definition of r1 spam and it's supposed to be a completely different experience, but unfortunately they fucked up poise and made it so you can beatthe whole game easily with just the starting knight class. On top of that the bosses are complete jokes. I beat a lot of BB bosses in only 1-2 tries, but the really hard ones fucked my shit up. Hardest boss in DaS3 is supposedly NK and he was easy as fuck. Soul of Cinder probably took me the longest at like 5 tries.

But you're not getting it. Bloodborne lacks the strategy that Souls games have.
In souls game, getting right below the enemy's balls and giving them a good slicing isn't always the best strategy. Sometimes it's fine to back off, sometimes mid-long distance is the best way to fight. That's never true in Bloodborne. It's just go and be agressive. Side-step attack, press R1, repeat. NOTHING else. NO changes whatsoever regardless of the weapon you play with. Sometimes you can go for a backstab or a riposte but 90% of the time it's just best to be as agressive as possible, which is fine for a couple bossfights like it is in DS3... But fuck, for a 22 hour game!? That's insane.
And well, you're technically right about the bosses. Most bosses in DS3 took me just a couple of tries, except for Pontiff (19 tries), Dancer (14) and Soul of Cinder (7)
In Bloodborne, Ludwig took me more than 30 and Orphan took me around 40. They fucked me up.
But the main problem is that whenever I got to a bossfight, I knew exactly what I had to do. Just get in there and attack. It's almost funny that the game with the most horrid designs that should make you question even what you're fighting ends up being the one where every boss just plays the same: BE AGRESSIVE. Whenever I got to a boss, first thing I did is get in as fast as possible and fuck him up, which is why I had such a stupid amount of bosses I did in one try. On the other hand, DS3 bosses never took me too much except for the ones I specified, but I rarely did them on first try because each one was so different.
I thought Battlefield 3's coop, as minimal as it was, was fun and the only reason it was a failure in my mind was because there wasn't enough content. Also I loved the Onslaught coop mode on BF Bad Company 2 and I'm still mad BFBC2 on PC never got Onslaught mode. If it did I would've bought it again on PC just for that.

I can't speak for everyone here but I've gone through my degree and Masters and also doing a full time job. I didn't like Dark Souls.
The gameplay was sluggish, punished you with frustration and lacked rewards for actually playing around with things. The world and npcs were dull and boring so it never gave me a reason to want to see what lay beyond. It wasn't even as hard as people made it out to be, just frustrating at points and enemies took too many hits to keep battles fun.
This is coming from someone who gets a thrill from dying in all or nothing roguelikes by the way.

HM1 was fun because it was clustered was a fun , at some times annoying, experience to grind out patterens for enemies. But it had an issue where long corridors resulted in bullshit deaths.
Which is why I think Hotline 2 is fucking ass because literally 80% of the levels have large open areas or long corridors, which means the camera can only see so much.

Depends. They're not bad at the game, and neither was I back then.
When it comes to competitive multiplayer games I do think there's a lot of space for skill and taking the game seriously.
For most people though it's just an activity like a sport. They don't appreciate games as a medium of communitation, or, dare I say, an art form.
It's true that those games the player is the subject of the experience, but the trade-off is that you're not consuming amything. You're not gaining anything new after hundreds of hours played. Every math is unique, but at the same time they're always the same withing the limitations of that specific medium.
People who play the other kind of games, the story driven (via exposition or any other way), role-playing, or things like that get to experience whole other concepts, genres, and experiences in general.
I'm not trying to sound an elitis here, since there's value in both ways of playing. I'm just saying it's a shame that mine and theirs are not the same because it'd be nice to play these non-competitive games together or just simply discussing them.

Well, there not much to do in that situation but go after the obvious: try to see what attract them to that game and see if you can find other games they can go to get a similar and more refreshed experienced if you think they can dig it, or find more people to talk about games with, ortrying a different hobbywere you can apply what you like about trying differents games one after the other.
