Something like 1+2, with additional characters like 3.
The story could be as simple as Spyro got lost or some shit and gets help from people in portals. It doesn't really matter, as long as the level design is good, the enemies make fun of you for dying, and is short enough to have replayability.
Maybe a few more bosses. None of that ice, lightning and bubble shit either. They could even keep it low poly and release it on GoG or some shit and I'd be all over that.

How would even a proper Crash & Spyro crossover work though? It'd be cool to have Crash style gameplay in Spyro's quasi-open stages. But Spyro in Crash Bandicoot's linear stages would be terrible. The only other option I can think of is just making a regular Crash & Spyro game but design the levels with the other game's aesthetic.
The safest thing they could do is bring back traditional Spyro and just make Crash an animal buddy.

I paid money to run around as a dragon and ram into things and not fly around slowly dropping bombs or putting up with shitty monkey controls. I had a good time with Spyro's Adventure. Trigger Happy was my bro. In fact I have a ton of Trigger Happy figures.
The only thing I didn't like about Spyro's Adventure was that if your champion died, you couldn't use him for an hour. That's such a cheap way to force you to have lots of champions.But on the other hand it forces you to git gud.

FPS sections were good though, just mash the shit out of the fire button. sensitivity was low enough that you could line up a shot well, but low enough that you had to make sure you cleared out an area before continuing or else youd get shot in the back.

I've been hearing the term comfy being used for games only recently, but damn if it isn't a great way to describe some games, especially Spyro. If you want to experience it second hand watch the play and break of enter the dragonfly, which is less of a glitch run (like the previous two play and breaks were) and more of a hands on review.
The general gist of it is that the levels are overall too large and poorly laid out, gem placement is nonsensical and makes collecting them a huge bore, and most of the side content just isn't fun even when it works right.
A good 90% of the game is just a chore. The only levels were playing in my opinion were the swamp one and the ice one.
For non-gameplay related stuff though there are a ton of quality issues like dialogue and sounds not playing properly and slowdowns, also there are forced tutorials for the most basic shit
