I posted this for COMPLEX MOTIVES.

The Boy and the Ring
>>
>>343623709
First fragment I did. Injected and saw Eric's backstory. Knew I was in for a ride.
>>
>>343623865
there was actually some anon complaining about that plot being wasted and yet i loved it because it tied in perfect into the "life is unfair" theme.
it was impossible for carlos to know akane and junpei were still in the pods. at least they retained their memories in the end.
>>
So what happened during the panel yesterday? Just the 999 VA thing and a bunch of question dodging?
>>
>Any time Eric is talking about his shitty backstory
>You have to look at that stupid fucking table or that icecream store
>While the worst music in the series plays
>Can't click spam through it have to listen.

I hate it every fucking time. Second only to door opening scenes in VLR
>>
>>343626326
You can fast forward never before read stuff if you checked the box in the options.
>>
>>343626503
Didn't want to risk missing good shit with an accidental click
>>
>That empty feeling when the game is over.

How long did it take you guys? 21 hours here
>>
>>343627440
22, but I got stuck for a while with both the executions and the name choice with Eric.
It was kinda sad when I realized just how quickly I beat the entire game.
>>
I'm still disappointed that Phi being Diana and Sigma's child was true. I would have much preferred Sigma and Phi ending up together. Their chemistry was too good
>>
>>343627563
I got stuck with the executions too. In all 3 betrayals for the first time I had Q team die. Even when Q team did the betraying
>>
Coming into this game I didn't think I'd enjoy not playing as Sigma or Junpei but I enjoyed both Carlos and Diana. Q team can get fucked though. It was always a chore to play with them. Eric a shit. A SHIT.
>>
>>343623343
>Start to play zero escape 999
>Shortly find out I can only unlock the true ending by doing certain set path, beating the game once, then doing a different path only after that

Man, I hate the "true ending only unlocks after your first playthrough"

Are the other games in this series different?
>>
>>343627873
Maybe if you didn't play VNs based around time travel and multiple timelines you wouldn't need to play the game multiple times
>>
>>343627873
They're different enough.
>>
Still not sure how I feel about mindhacking. Like, I get it, he wanted to make Blick Winkel a character of his own this time, but it just felt so sudden, like there was hardly any buildup to it.
>>
>>343627873
>playing for the true end
>not seeking out every ending
People don't actually do this, right? Just play a VN for one route and drop it?
>>
>>343627873
You don't have to redo things you've seen already much in the other two and instead you have to do lots of paths to unlock the true end. Finish 999 first though, because it gives a justified story reason for it in all games
>>
>>343628024
What are you on about? Almost every D team route mentions not knowing why buttons were pressed. Even Carlos says this in the contamination room
>>
>>343627598
I was disappointed too, I was hoping that Phi and Diana would end up being sisters or something, explaining the hair color
>>
>>343628010
>>343627941
Ok, I'll probably finished this one though still.
>just got to the part where ace puts himself to sleep to get left behind

>Shortly after passing through the door it dawned on me that 1+2+9=12=3

I don't know what this means but it can't be good.
>>
>>343628214
The second play through is easier because you can skip all read dialogue.
>>
>>343624790
More or less
>So what happened to Kyle?
>Good question, who can say?
YOU CAN MOTHERFUCKER, IT'S WHY I'M ASKING YOU
>>
>>343628050
If there is a true route, that's the only one that matters and is most of the time the most well written with the best climax.
>>

I just beat the game.

I don't know what I think about this.

I guess Uchi did deliver on his promises. Everything I can think of is explained. There's no loose ends.

But what did you guys think? Live up to expectations? Not good enough? Better than the previous games?
>>
>>343628685
Yeah, but the safe ending was probably my favourite in 999
>>
>>343628829
Probably my least favorite, but that isn't saying much as they're all great. I don't know why people expected every single thing answered, because what series fully does that? I guess it speaks to the rabid fanbase; it's a double edged sword.

Fave twist was the wards. It was obvious as fuck, but I didn't realize until it happened and it caused me to scream 'Oh, shit, oh, fuck' repeatedly at my screen
>>
The only thing that is missing in ZTD is a final escape room/puzzle.

Also, I would love to see Carlos back in a new game.
>>
>>343628829
There's a lot of things that Uchi promised that wasn't in the game. Off the top of my head, one of the big one sis that Kyle is nowhere to be seen and not even mentioned in the game, despite the fact that VLR's ending had Akane mention that Kyle had a "very important role" to play in it. When fans asked Uchikoshi about this yesterday he just laughed and brushed them off.

Still hoping he'll give us actual answers in his usual post-game Q&A/FAQ.
>>
>>343628753
>>343628931
Safe is necesary for the true ending though. Sub is good, but the rest are shit.
>>
>>343628753
>>343629209
Axe ending is good too faggots. Only the knife ending is underwhelming as hell
>>
>>343627440
what.? im 21 hours now and i still got like 5-7(?) fragments locked.
>>
>>343629305
3 fragments are the exact same event and the other 2-4 could be non puzzles.
>>
>>343629154
Good point, I realized there are quite a few unanswered questions after posting. I wonder if Uchikoshi didn't explain those because of time/budget constraints or because he didn't want to or for another reason? Here's to hoping he'll explain in that post-game FAQ.
>>
Did anyone get the ZTD watch? Is it any good?
>>
>>343629081
The sudoku in 999 was by far the highlight of the game, I don't know why Uchi stopped putting gameplay in the true ends
>>
>>343629638
No one has got it at the moment as far as I know since Amazon fucking up the transport.
Last time I heard they will send the watch somewhere on the second week of July or something.
>>
Has anyone got the screenshot of sean asking if he should take his clothes off?

While playing 999 I always felt like there was a single timeline and the other braches were what ifs just there to aquire knowledge allowing you to go back and do the right choice in the primary timeline thus avoiding those bad endings from happening

Kinda sad now that there are multiple timelines where everyone is dead, it makes create a "perfect ending" world kinda pointless
>>
>>343631862
because that's what happened
in 999 there's only one timeline
>>
>>343631862
That actually was the case in 999.

Child Akane was looking into the future through junpei's eyes using MIND HACK to make him choose things searching for the perfect timeline in which he solves the sudoku puzzle so that she can save herself.

Only in VLR when Sigma and Phi shifted did they bother having multiple timelines.

For all intents and purposes 999 was just akane brain storming and looking into the future for the perfect combination just so she could survive.
>>

>>
I really wished eric died and mira got what was coming to her.
>>
>>343631407
>>343631434
Yeah my bad I forgot that.
>>
>>343632496
With the multiple possibility games are the results fixed for everyone or random?

For the gun my first shot was a blank
For the poison the antidote was A
Dice was a failure
>>
>>343632618
Yep to all 3.
>>
>>343631346
I like to think Delta really was a senile old man and Gab was the true mastermind. Gab, leader of FtS, used alien technology to go back in time and experience all the timelines. He shifts into the force-stop timeline and the mass amount of information brought through the morphogenetic field somehow leaks into Deltas senile old brain and kickstarts his disabled body into moving around again. He starts yelling at everyone about his complex motives and mind hacks and kills Gab, saving the day.
>>
>>343632618
It's random.
I got the dice on my third try, how about everyone else?
>>
How many events are actually dictated by RNG?
>>
>>343632776
Everyone has it on the third try.

The dialogue even reveals that. Akane saying that getting it on the third throw is still miraculous.
>>
>>343632618
My first shot was a blank too

My first antidote was E or something like that. The solution also changed when I went back to get the bad ending.

I got the dice roll on my third try
>>
>>343631926
>>343632040
I see, that does make sense
>>
>>343632776
That happens anyway.
>>
>>343632835
That's what I figured, but it's not like Akane was supposed to know
>>
>>343632840
How about the monty hall choice?
>>
>>343632817

I want to say none are RNG but I could be wrong. The coin toss is absolutely not RNG. This is shown when Akane explicity states that getting all 1s after 3 tosses isn't that impressive. Unless somebody in this thread says they took more than 3 tosses then it wasn't RNG.

As for the gun scene; I'm pretty sure I saw all 3 different scenes in a row with no scene repeated. The two bad outcomes and then the good outcome.
>>
>>343632985
I am certain that switching is always the correct answer since that's the entire premise of the Monty Hall problem
>>
>>343632817
The gun was a 50/50 chance
The mask was 90/10
The dice were scripted

Don't think there were any other RNG elements
>>
>>343632985

Oh shit. I just remembered that the lockers decision might have been RNG. The numbers were different each time AND when I picked same locker twice, it was wrong the second time. Which makes that achievement "figured out the monty hall problem!" pretty stupid considering it's luck based.
>>
>>343633057
The coin?
>>
>>343633052
Nope the text in the game said that you still has a small chance to get it wrong by not switching.
>>
>>343633057
The poison repeatedly changes. My first one had no tongues go numb so it was obviously A which was lackluster as fuck.
>>
>>343633149
That was also my first time it was A because nobody was numb

>>343632618

I really think there were NO random sections in the game.
>>
>>343633057
The antidote decision is randomly generated.
My first one has everyone feeling numb on their tongue. While, the second one has none. I saw someone playing that two has theirs feeling numb while one doesn't.
>>
>>343633110
Blue is always the correct answer isn't it? I got that on the first go which made for a disappointing trip to the credits
>>
>>343633110
I think your first choice is always the correct one
>>
>>343633097
>figured out the monty hall problem
>luck based
If you knew how the problem worked you would know you had a 90% chance of opening the right locker by switching
>>
>>343633249
No I picked red and it was the correct answer the first time.

I think it just becomes what your very first choice was.

My biggest gripe with any ending is the lead up to the VLR based one where you're setting up the timer. Now you think yeah set that shit to 30-60 seconds and run and you'll be safe. For no fucking reason at all they set that shit to 5 fucking minutes. Then when they get all the way to the other end of the ward Phi says they have 4 mins 20 seconds left. What the fuck. No one could overestimate the distance of the ward that much. You'd be fucking blocks away with a 5 min timer.
>>
>>343633260

Thanks for explaining how it works so that I and others might know. Oh wait, you didn't. With my basic math and logic skills, I see it as 10% chance at first and then 50% chance with 2 lockers left.
>>
>>343633249
The game is rigged.
You always get it right the first time no matter what you pick so the casts can SHIFT to that part later on.
>>
>>343633217
My first was Junpei and carlos, and then I messed up on the second one because I didn't know it switched then the third was Akane and Junpei.
>>
So from Delta's point of view, he grows up raised by researchers, eventually meets someone who he learns the future from (Possibly K and thats why Akane said he was important? The "Truth" Akane learned at the Free the Soul rally could have ade her know they needed to get K back to the point where he would trigger Delta's plans)

So he works his ass off building a cult, and the Dcom Facility is a giant black box. This black box is an enclosed environment that creates timelines to 1. Support his own birth 2.Unleash radical-6, saving the world from extinction and enabling the time SHIFTers to come back from the future 3.Create a known timeline where the terrorist is most likely stopped.

Now why does he give a shit about confirming a timeline where the terrorist i caught if he knows there are infinite timelines? He can't SHIFT and live through those good timelines, however he can download info from peoples brains and essentially "become" the Delta the others knew. This ties in with the whole "Is it the conciousness or memories that make the man?
>>
>>343633446
Fuck that noice. I wouldn't take any chances too
grab all the fucking furniture and heavy items

build a fucking fort at the complete other side of the facility and then set the timer at 5 minutes.

>With my grade school math and logic skills, I see it as 10% chance at first and then 50% chance with 2 lockers left.
FTFY
>>
>>343633498
When you first pick you have a 90% chance of getting it wrong
When Zero opens up 8 lockers that are guaranteed to be empty you are left with 1 final locker: If at first you got it wrong (90%) then switching gets you the mask, but if you got it right first time (10%) then switching will make you lose.

What about the puzzle rooms? I could swear people got different numbers in alien algebra.
>>
Considering they had Delta go all the way back to 1904, I'm surprised the series never went back to the start and turned it around to the Titanic again. If Baby Delta was sent to April 1904, then it means he could have been a survivor of the Titanic - he would have been 8 years old at the time.

Though that makes me wonder why it was so hard not to just have him had gone to 1903 so he'd be 9 years old during the Titanic, for pure pottery.
>>
>>343633796
Nah, it's the same.
Only decision games have RNG.
>>
>>343633701
>If at first you got it wrong (90%) then switching gets you the mask, but if you got it right first time (10%) then switching will make you lose.

Yeah... I still don't understand how it's not 50/50. Neither of the 2 remaining lockers should have any kind of advantage or disadvantage. It's only 90% chance to be wrong UNTIL 8 are opened and then it's 100% divided by the amount of unopened lockers.
>>
>>343633596
Yeah, but I feel like it should've been Akane instead of Delta.

She was the original MIND HACKER in 999. And couldn't jump as well (otherwise she'd just jump to another timeline from the incinerator one)

There was NO reason to use Delta. They could've just replaced Delta in ZTD with Akane and the entire story could've been the same.

With Akane being Phi's sister and Sigma+diana's child.

alien algebra had the same numbers to the cards every time. The symbols themselves even had clues to what numbers the represented that some people didn't realize until after they had already figured it out the long way through using the game for trial and error.
>>
>>343633915
> isnt as goofy
>>
>>343633864
You can actually FEEL the difference in chance if you pick a bigger number.

For example lets say there are 1000 lockers. You pick 1 randomly. I open 998 locker doors.

You can actually instinctly feel that it HAS to be in the locker I didn't open yet.

The same is the case with 10 lockers or 3 lockers. The chance difference just gets smaller at smaller number of doors so it's harder to recognize.
>>
>>343633864
>You pick the wrong locker (90% chance)
>There are 9 lockers left, 1 has the mask in
>Zero opens 8 that are guaranteed to be empty
>Therefor the last locker that he didn't open and you didn't pick is guaranteed to have the mask in

Sorry to say but I felt that I was being fucked with so I stuck with my original choice and the gas mask was in there. I'll gladly read more about the Monty Hall problem to see why switching gives you a better chance but at the moment it makes zero sense.

>>343634091

Yes, I got the achievement. I don't get why I got it because I don't feel like I figured out shit. When I redid the scene to get it wrong, I also stuck with my original choice and the mask wasn't in there.
>>
>>343634026
Yeah this, it makes more sense with big numbers but when is just 3, like in the original problem, it becomes more difficult to decide because there is a higher chance of getting the right door from the start.
>>
>>343633596
If you really boil it down, the entire VLR timeline was created just to cause enough time fuckery that Delta could kick himself into a comfy timeline.
>>
>>343634135
Look at the start of his greentext there. He's saying that it's guaranteed to have the gas mask if you picked the wrong locker, which you will do 90% of the time.

You're confused because you happened to have picked the right the first time, and you aren't grasping that while it did happen for you, there was only a 10% chance of that happening. You just got lucky. (While if someone did know about Monty Hall, and switched but happened to have chosen right the first time, that just means they were unlucky).
>>
>>343634135
It's fairly straight forward to calculate the conditional probability of winning by switching door/box. I'm pretty sure the monty hall problem is covered in most collage statistics classes.

>>
>>343634357
To be fair though, the Monty Hall problem is highly divisive even among expert mathematicians. The game even acknowledges that it's divisive - there are still esteemed scholars today who disagree with the conclusion and argue against it.
>>
So the next zero will be Zero the Third again right? since in this timeline sigma won´t go to the moon.
>>
>>343634098
This point is kinda bullshtit but we know Akane knows some "truth" from Zero, knows K will be super fucking important to everything, and is also known for withholding information because its important to. Delta had to mind hack SOMEBODY who knew a lot about the VLR future timeline in order to set up the creation.

How K gets hypothetically sent back that far, who fucking knows. And theres still the problem of how he figured out the terrorist problem.
>>
>>343634429

>>343633249
The correct answer is whatever you pick first. You will always get the good ending as your very first ending.
>>
>>343634135
Ok I will try. By saying it as 50/50 It seems you disregard the first case of the problem and only consider the second case where there are only 2 lockers left.

At first case, you have 1/10 chance of being right. Now that Zero has opened 8 other lockers, meaning there are 2 lockers left. One is the one you picked just now (which has 1/10 being right). And guess what the other locker probability when the your currently locker's one is 1/10? Yes, it's 9/10.
That's why it's better to switch. You can keep your choice but you just have lower odds.
Doesn't mean you can only get it right after the 10th however.
>>

I know he he gets a ton of flack for it, but probably the whole TEN MONTHS and "If I had done that, I wouldn't have met you guys" part. He was just so naive and the game was totally judging him for being that way.

They already showed the murder in a cutscene lol. The only reason this true and not with coincidence of them saying the same thing and dying, is that everyone is related to each person in the game from the butterfly effect of what happen. So it's true. Mira killed Eric's mom. Which was the second thing to set off a chain of events happening to 999, ZTD and VLR timelines.

I don't get why staying with your original choice in a new situation isn't being counted as making a new decision in and of itself. The situation itself has already changed, the probability doesn't remain the same as a result of that.

Not changing is the same as if you had come in on the second situation and chosen something from a 50/50 chance in the first place.

My vision on the zero escape series is that there is only a single timeline.

All those multiple timelines are still contained in a single "true" timeline. The universe just accounts for the time travel. History always had time travel in it. There is no timeline where the timetravel didn't happen.

So I just finished the game.

I just need to sit down and take it all in now. It didn't end the way I wanted, but I'm satisfied enough with how it went.

My biggest concern going in was wanting Sigma and Junpeis timelines to be concluded nicely and I felt the game did do that somewhat well. Sad we didn't hear anything about Quark, but it's meh. I lost my shit watching Akanes go full chainsaw massacre mode when her beloved Junpei was killed. And my man Sigma having unprotected sex with a cute drunken nurse was nice. The Phi stuff I liked, it was the Delta nonsense that was a bit silly.

God man, so much I want to say about this game. It wasn't exactly how I wanted it to end, but at it's close enough.
