I don't think that's because Plat is INCAPABLE of making long games, but that they actively choose not to.
Plat's worlds are very densely-packed by design.
We've only seen one real attempt at an RPG-like world by Plat, which is Transformers Devastation, and the game was maybe 5 hours long but it literally only had the budget for two levels (you played each one twice, plus two little side-missions on a bridge).
What we've seen of the world so far suggests there will be a multitude of large worlds (probably 4-5 at minimum) that have towns and sidequests which will likely stretch the game length out substantially. When the world isn't a bent-up hallway with fights every 15 feet the game goes much slower.
Duration isn't what we should look at from Plat games, but content quantity, and from that perspective their games are enormous. They're just designed to be over in an afternoon so they can be replayed frequently without padding, rather than to cover a long stretch of time to help pace a more developed story
If that doesn't put your mind at ease, bear in mind Taro's stated process for writing Nier A is to look at the budget, ask Plat how many levels they can squeeze out of that budget, and then write the story to fill that space, meaning it's Taro behind the size/length of the game and he's maximizing it as much as possible.

I feel like a weirdo for actually finding Drakengard kind of fun to play up until I did the Free Expeditions where you have to kill every fucking enemy on the map pretty much to clear them. That's only if you want to get Ending E though and if you really don't want to do the grind then you could download a save with all the weapons collected after you reach Ending D. If you do the grind then seriously, use a guide cause some of those weapons are impossible to find otherwise.

I think the best way to grind up weapons was to just grind the first or second level in the game over and over, and at minimum you have to beat a level 4 times just for 1 weapon because experience doesn't overflow.
So if you know how long it takes you to kill everything in a big map once, multiply that by 4, then multiply that by how many weapons you have left.
