The actual healing component is easy, its knowing when to heal, when its safe stance dance, and then the usual timing/positioning everyone else does. Much of that is lessened with communicating with your co-healer. Most of the challenges is something every role has to share in that you need to understand the mechanics and what is expected of you.
tl;dr in extreme/savage content, every role has their job that's "challenging" in their own way, I happen to have an easier time healing than dpsing, but other people will have the opposite oppinion

The only healers I ever enjoyed playing were priests in WoW and Tera. Former because I could mind control motherfuckers off cliffs and into lava. Latter because you could chain knockdown someone to death in pvp with ease. The healing aspect itself I view as a necessary tool in certain conditions, that's all. They have the best MP regent out of all the healers. Their version of Shroud of Saints lasts 9 secs longer than WHMs. Also their version of Succor got buffed last patch so it's better than it (still can't crit I think).
Other than that I think it's all trivial. Synergy is great for tank busters, Combust I and II are amazing dots, Lightspeed is good for being an even better MP efficient healer/great for rezzing.
No Cure 3 equivalent is balls though and Collective Unconscious is even worse than Asylum and Sacred Soil.

Being a doctor is an incredibly stressful role, I don't think I could handle it either. I'd never want to do it. But I think a lot of people who should be doctors aren't because they think they aren't good enough, while a lot of people who are doctors have no business holding a person's life in their hands.
I've been in many hospitals and seen a lot of fucked up shit go down. Nurses regularly make dangerous medication errors and openly conspire to alter records to cover their asses. They shirk their responsibilities to make regular rounds and ignore call buttons, leaving patients who should be monitored regularly unattended for hours. Doctors are so overworked they can only spend two minutes a day assessing patients who need round the clock care. Nobody truly cares, it's just a job.
In the modern medical system, the typical duties of a doctor include:
>Preventing obvious and imminent death, then telling your patient to fuck off
>Collecting grants and conducting research and telling everyone else to fuck off
>Telling idiots to fuck off and tough it through whatever won't kill them
>Teaching basic healthy practices (a.k.a diet and exercise) and telling people to fuck off
>Prescribing antidepressants if you're not sure what's wrong with the patient and telling them to fuck off so you don't lose face
If you want to actually take care of seriously ill people, being a doctor is not the job for you. I respect the work they do, but there has to be a way to improve the system. Maybe if some of the prestige was removed less idiots would flock to the profession because they think it's just about making mommy and daddy proud and buying a big house.

doctors are 95% diagnosis, which can be done with a database. the biggest issue with it is getting a machine to understand a patient describing his symptoms, and having it ask questions. and its certainly worth the investment, as once that database is software is up it will be much, much cheaper

That would work for the majority of cases. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "If you hear hooves, it's probably horses, not zebras." Databases are fine for patients whose symptoms present like typical horses, but what about zebras? Human beings have a difficult enough time diagnosing and caring for patients whose symptoms don't follow textbook disease paths. Or what about conditions that haven't been discovered yet? Would a machine really fare any better? The solution is more complex, I think.

Rank and file doctors doesn't deal with shit that aren't discovered yet. We can safely replace people who do menial and strictly mechanical part of the job with sufficiently advanced machines. If anything surgery will be done by robots in our lifetime at the very least.
Also i doubt we even be using symptoms for anything serious when we will be able to automate the diagnosis procedures.

Furthermore, human bodies are not all built to factory specification. Human doctors have difficulty adjusting to this. Any automated system would have to be carefully overseen by humans. Even with the most optimistic outlook on the future capabilities of machines I'm not convinced they'll prove much better than what little we have now.
I don't understand exactly what you mean by that last comment. Do you mean that in the future the accuracy of medical tests will make reporting symptoms unnecessary for diagnosis? I know someone who has tested positive for Graves' antibodies, but their symptoms, although having to do with the malfunction of the thyroid, are the opposite of typical Graves disease and typical Graves treatment is not effective on them. How would an automated system deal with a case like this?
