I disagree. XII felt disjointed, padded, and the story was all over the place. It had questionable design choices like the gambit system, the shift away from turn based combat, shit like the race of playboy bunnies (horrible design only meant to appeal to manchildren), the completely fucking awful main character who somehow ended up being worse than Tidus.
X is by no means perfect but it's a helluva lot better than XII, at least in my opinion. I dumped over 100 hours into XII and was still so far from completing it, and it was just... mind numbingly boring.

Yes but the gambit system meant either putting all party members on auto pilot, or constantly switching members, running around the battlefield, casting your spell, switching again, doing this, doing that. I just preferred turn based, especially X's (only because we're comparing the two).
I did not know the Viera came from Tactics because it's one of the only FF games I haven't actually played. That being said their design in XII was laughable.
All things considered it wasn't a garbage game, I just found it too boring. The world design and maps were pretty nice, and it's probably the best looking PS2 game sans Silent Hill 3, but it's just not for me. Not after the 100 hours I poured into it.

His musics had good melody and shaped what is the true final fantasy essence in music for me, soundtracks in the newer games (X-2 and up, and in some extent even 10 because he only did a portion of work) is too much "misty", the musics lacks a solid melody and tries to be overdramatic without really being exciting (just like Kingdom Hearts).
