I think this game will be awesome because there is so much that one can do. The universe is probably even bigger than the real universe. So no doubt about it becoming boring on my side really.

Thoughts?

It'll have a database a la Spore, no actual multiplayer senpai.

Good premise but if what the trailers have shown us is all there is it'll tank hard.

>>343571989

I'm genuinely surprised there are people like this who are falling this hard for the marketing campaign.

It just brings back flashbacks of every other disappointing title that hyped up the illusion of 'infinite possibilities'.

From what this game has shown, it looks like it's going to have a surge of players immediately after release, followed by a HUGE drop off.
>>
>>343571989
It's a meme game and will be boring as fuck.
>>
what do you actually do in this game besides land on a purple planet, look at some animals, take off and land on slightly more purple planet with slightly different animals??

>At its core, No Man’s Sky is technically an online game. Every one of the game’s players share the same vast, procedural universe. However, due to the sheer number of planets and star systems as well as the random nature of each player’s starting position, it’s highly unlikely that any sort of organized meetup or party system can thrive.

>In past interviews, Murray has spoken of his admiration for Journey, the small Playstation exclusive that won serious plaudits back in 2012. Here’s what he said back in 2014: “We haven’t really talked about multiplayer, but I want kind of a Journey-esque feel to it. You get a sense that you’re playing with other people, and you can see the actions of other people.”

That's it. There's nothing else to it.No resource gathering. No crafting. No real combat.
>>
>>343572559
>No Man's Sky is technically an online game
>Technically

That is the keyword, anon. The other anon was right when he said that there's no multiplayer and that it's just a database.

The world will be online-required, everything that is done will be uploaded to the database, but actually playing together will not happen.
>>
>>343572814
>No resource gathering. No crafting. No real combat.

>>
>>343571989
If you liked No Man's Sky I got another classic for you. It features very similar random generated content with millions of possibilities
>>
>>343572489
>>343572529
On most threads I see I overhype the shit out of it because retards and money should not be together. If you can't tell by now this game will be shit then you really don't deserve to have money. I can't be arsed today to meme this.

Now, if the game happens to be good (which the wait and see crowd will be able to clearly see) then this will become evident a month or two after release.

I do give my regards to those stupid enough to buy this early so they can guinea pig that shit for me and a special thank you to those who pre-ordered it because you are special and special people need special thanks.
>>
>>343572814
Why do you have to lie?

The game is entirely about exploration which means gathering resources to upgrade and craft new ships or bases on the planets you land on. The meme objective is to get to the center of the galaxy but it's entirely optional.
>>
>>343572942
Yep, we like to call it a Stupid Tax.
I have a couple friends who have been hyping this game up since before the gameplay footage was even released. They're already set on buying it.
>>
>>343571989
>So no doubt about it becoming boring
Doubt it.

It's really big, bigger than you can comprehend, but also procedurally generated. After awhile you'll see patterns, each planet will be "unique" but will still fall into the limitations of their procedural generator.

The whole thing is a gimmick, they need to nail the other game mechanics for it to be any good, and we'll have to wait and see if they can do that.

I think they are being purposefully elusive about the online aspect.
I have heard him say it wont be in "at launch" then heard in other interviews it is possible.
this guy knows how games work, he has worked at top companies. by not giving info it leaves a mystery that actually creates press for itself.
I am assuming there will be multiplayer, in the vein of journey, no communication etc. Especially that they have hand funding from sony. Maybe even this delay has something to do with adding online multiplayer.
Then I would assume them to release some sort of co-op features after release.

this game is set up to be a Spore 2, but it's not the developers fault. Hordes of retards have made up their own version of what the game should be in their heads and are going to me mad when the game doesn't live up to their own nonsensical explanations.

I think you're giving him far too much credit. He's not releasing info because the "info" will suck shit and no one will buy the game.

You see the hours of footage of BOTW? That's because it's a good game they are not scared to show off and talk about endlessly and this is from a company who are masters of withholding info.

You're not getting clear information for NMS because it's going to suck.

I think you are not getting clear answers because he is just a guy, from a small dev team taking on a massive task that they don't want to disappoint.
I expect as soon as they realised it's becoming a famously sought after game they knew they needed to appeal to the fans, and add multiplayer, but development time and costs change.

But it just looks like itd be fun for 10-20 hours
>>
>>343571989
So with the whole kinda online multiple player thing I have an interesting question.
What happens if I land on a planet and blast the shit out of it, destroy as much as I can, dig way deep into ground. What does someone else see when they land there days later, is it the normal untouched planet or husk of what's left?
It's all procedurally generated and it's supposed to not be storing all the information of all the planets, but then how would it remember every crater everyone makes? And with no load times how would it render and alter the planet on fly in if it is loading it from somewhere?

>>343577738
You could interpret zero chance, due to not being coded into the game, as "incredibly rare."
>>
>>343577787
So then once you destroy the planet and leave it'll just regen everything?
>>
>>343577426

Wew
>>
>>343577978
I don't think a logical person could interpret it that way. If it's not coded into the game the probability is impossible, not rare. So if it is single player he lied in the interview.

That's what I was thinking too. There's no way to store and download all of the tiniest alterations made by every person that's playing forever. Might as well just wipe everything once they leave the planet and no one will care. Guess it'll make it easy to grind for certain materials.

The sad part is that each planet is using a singular biome, so that is already less information they need to store via seed system for each planet.

I think NMS will be the ultimate showcase about how the size of a game's world has no effect on how good the world is. I've not played a single procedurally generated game which had a world surpassing a hand crafted one in terms of actual enjoyability.

It doesn't store what everyone creates. Maybe if you decide to wipe out all of a certain species on a planet that kind of thing will be saved, if you blow up the planet that will be saved, but anything like the digging you do or the animals you kill won't be saved because it's not important.

I honestly think it will. Not because they're going to make money or the game will suddenly become good, but because FDev are stubborn enough to keep it alive by contracting other games to make such as that new Planetcoaster game coming out soon.

ED will make a minute amount of money from the whales stupid enough to keep shelling out full price for the incomplete expansions, enough that there will be a small team working on it and occasionally releasing content. I don't have any faith in any of their future expansions though.
