I don't think it's logically possible to have game 1 and then it's sequel in the list.
If game one was perfect then for the sequel to be perfect it'd need to further the limits of perfection which means game 1 would no longer be perfect.
And if game 2 was just the same as game 1, then it's not perfect because it never added any further value as a second game.

Kid Icarus Uprising. Every aspect of the game was perfect, except for being on the 3DS. I personally didn't have any issues with the controls, but the majority did. It would have benefited better if it were on the Wii U. I wish it were compatible with the Circle Pad Pro.

SM64 pioneered 3D platformers in the sense that it blew its competitors out of the water. Sure it had camera problems, but then I don't see the OP subtracting points from Doom for its shortcomings compared to modern FPS games, such as not having a vertical camera/aim component.

The gunplay is super simple and the lack of vertical aiming blows, it looks ugly as sin without mods to get it running at a proper res with better textures, and it gets fairly repetitive in the middle.
I still love it though just for being so good at RIPPING and TEARING though, don't get me wrong, but I literally would never play it without mods these days.

Shit, all this Doom talk has me nostalgic for 90s and DOS now. Closing windows 3.1 and going into DOS for extra speed. Manually selecting the ports for the soundblaster card, not daring to autoselect because it crashed everyone's computer. I second this game.
Negative word on the controls probably put a lot of people off from playing the game, but I never found it an issue at all. These days there are 2DSes and smaller, different 3DS models to try the game on which would probably be more comfortable.
It's got some neat ideas control-wise though, involving stick tapping and flicking to make quick turns. The game feels quick and fast and has a lot of variety in the missions and level designs with a bunch of different weapons.
the game is made with all that Sakurai love of stupid little details and a healthy dose of randomness and passive challenges that make replaying it a shitton of fun. It's also fully voice acted, self-aware and charming, and has a false end that more than doubles the story's apparent initial length, and it's also much better than that current anime you like. It's got trophies and a very fun multiplayer...

There are literally 3 enemies who will fight you back, police officers, army people, and gangsters. The rest are poorly animated sim people walking around which don't fight back. Dynasty warrior AI is more fun to fight against.
You are limited to a small arsenal of weapons that all function exactly the same cause its a third person shooter that is simpler than games like MGS and Arma.
Only challenge in the game is racing missions.

Not blaming Doom's maps, they are solid as standalone maps. Their connection though, why and how doom guy is moving from map to map, is very hazy. You get the idea of the story through the changing map themes and map names, but it's really a bit rough. The first one was perfect because you were just one random shmuck trying to escape with an even greater plot occuring in the background and you could easily ignore or even downright kill the friendly A.I. around you.
Half-Life 2 on the other hand had an even greater focus on plot and basically had unskippable cutscenes that you were forced to go through. Sure you were able to move around a bit but going through 10 minutes of the same ol' dialogue and exposition get's tiring real quick.

One of the very few games I actually played through, I highly recommend it. The gameplay is often a subject of critique, but I think the game did a really good job. If you go in expecting a shooter, the game will chew you up and spit you out. You're desperately underpowered, your weapons are very ineffective, and enemy behavior quickly causes more trouble than the weapon is supposed to solved. However, that is kind of its strength.
People having trouble with the gameplay usually encounter it on Liberty Island, first in-game map. That's good though. The map is a tutorial of some sort. It is very brief, has a few definite pathways, so a player can mess with it in rapid iterations, to learn to get the hang of the gameplay, see what works and what doesn't. So the map teaches the more stealthy/careful approach of the game. Once you're through that map though, the story gets going and makes you hunger for more. By then you understood the gameplay on a core level, and are prepared for the rest of the game, which grips through its story, and mission design. There are a few weak missions in it, but what stood out for me is that, unlike many other games, it felt that Deus Ex was picking me up, was acknowledging me as a player, and actually made me want to see where the story leads. So many other games just throw a narrative at you with an "eat it or die" attitude, railroading the player to just follow that narrative. Not so Deus Ex. Sure, it probably railroaded me, but upfront it made sure I actually want to go in the direction it lead me, so I never felt railroaded. As such it's a perfect showcase how a game narrative should be done.
I'm very glad I decided to spend some time on Liberty Island, to get accustomed to its particular gameplay and pass that initial hurdle. It made the rest of the game very rewarding.

honestly? I never even bothered with HL2, because HL failed to do it for me. I will say though, HL1 did a pretty solid job combining interactivity and narrative. It's just that halfway through the game the motivation gets a bit thin. I tried the game a handful of times and end up stopping every time at nearly the same location (a couple minutes after the rocket test chamber). I am insanely happy that Deus Ex has no progression/completion indicators, and splits the different endings very late in the game. It's not a game to be "completed", where you have to find everything. In fact, it works because all that shit is distributed in such a way that no matter what decisions you make in the game, they will make sense, and you will encounter something acknowledging it. Trying to 100% these decision trees will break the narrative. So I strongly suggest you don't do it. Replay the game, by all means, but I think the game really is its strongest when you do JC's decisions, instead of being a completionist gamer. That's when it becomes an organic and seemingly dynamic narrative.

No, not at all. Or, well, not completely. If WoW wouldn't have been the game giving that idea, someone else would have done it, possibly. Who knows though? Maybe later? Maybe worse? And WoW's success, for better or worse, poisoned the idea pool. It's really hard to sell an old school MMO to the suits now
