Why are you getting so wistful over 10 years ago? 2006 internet was basically the point it became what it is now. Millions more people in lower-income households gained access, youtube gained popularity, social networks were getting bigger, businesses started clamping down on piracy... the only way you'd nostalgia over the internet at all is if you experienced mid 90s stuff, when you had to really know what you were doing.

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're referring to as Windows, is in fact, DOS/Windows, or as I've recently taken to calling it, DOS plus Windows. Windows is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another proprietary component of a fully functioning DOS system made useful by the DOS internal commands, shell scripts and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by the DOS API.

Oh I thought you were making a comment on the videos posted.
I remember old school flash videos. I love that shit so much. I got super deep into those stick fighting videos, to the point where I spent an entire day as a 12 year old trying to learn flash. I spent like 5 hours getting all my shit figured out, and I finally opened a video on how to make a stickman flash video and fought out you had to animate every frame and dropped that shit like a rock, I wish I had stuck with it now, maybe i'd know what to do with myself. I also had the privilege of being pretty deeply embedded in the Newgrounds scene when it was good as hell, that's something I'll always remember. My only regret from when I was a 12 year old kid is that I found 4chan through ED not Newgrounds, I feel sorta redeemed by the fact that I only spent like 6 months on /b/ before expanding my boards I lurked.I've been on this fuckign website for 9 fucking years, jesus.

A while ago I researched where the song came from because I was really curious.
It came from an obscure compilation album Nintendo of America put out in 1991 called White Knuckle Scorin'.
The album was accompanied by a comic book that was themed around the music on the CD, so when the comic told you "song cue" you would play the song. The only original song made for the album was Ignorance is Bliss by Jellyfish.

That reminds me, why did Darude Sandstorm become a meme again?
YouTube is 11 years old now. Sometimes you can check a user's channel and see vids of them in their early 20s, with long and flowing hair. Then you look at a video of them today and they're bald and in their 30s with a beard and slight wrinkles. It's depressing.

>>343501531
It really is a big deal that it's dead, it's just natural due to filtering out of old users and new users losing context on posts. So lurk moar turned into spoonfeeding turned into really silly obtuseness that defeats both lurking and just giving some newfaggot some info. I think it's made the general 4chan community a lot worse. Shit, just 4 years ago I would have gotten shit for being from ED, but people don't even flinch at that anymore, because most newfags at this point are from reddit/tumblr/twitter, just some garbage moderated safe space shithole. I'm willing to bet the average poster in this reminiscing threads is an older than average user, but tehre's not many old fags left. 4chan will be dead sooner than later, but then again the internet isn't really for us anymore.

Nah. There's a definite innocence in posting back in the early days. People used emotes and there were loads more tripfags since it was still a fresh alternative to forums where you were named. Shit like longcat and DESU DESU DESU DESU are prime examples of 4chan's 'innocent memes'.

>>343500442
If you really want to feel sad try reading the content of, or participating in, some other community like reddit, neogaf, mal, etc, for a week or two.
I never considered that I would be sheltered by exclusively using 4chan, but I'm now convinced that no matter how bad things get here it's still better than elsewhere other than maybe some obscure secret clubs that are probably filled with rp anyway.
>>343502053

I know exactly what you mean. I learned that well when Pikmin 3 came out and IGN gave it an 8.8. As soon as the newfags discovered there was a hidden joke they weren't being spoonfed, they started throwing a tantrum and demanding to be let in on it. They started screaming that they're entitled to be spoonfed and throwing the whole "not ur sekret club!!!!" spiel around and the rest of the thread was destroyed in an argument. I sorta miss ponyshit too. At that time, it felt like it was taking over. There was some cool new video produced every week. I look back and cringe at a lot of it now, but at the time it was a tonne of fun.
/v/ has been on life support since /vg/ was created and now both /v/ and /vg/ are terrible.
Sure, it's still technically alive, but we all know better.
Never forget.

At least someone remembers, last one of these threads I got reamed for admitting I came from ED and it felt super good. I think a lot of posters went to infinitychan hoping it would help, but it just fractured the community even more because GG faggots bounced, even though they were probably older posters, adn a lot of newfags left too because they didn't want to miss out on ebin memes they could retweet, not to mention it looked like 4chan was actually gonna take a real hit then too.

Holy shit, I'm enjoying bathing in my rose tinted glasses right now but "not ur sekret club'' just put so much anger into me that I can feel it in my gut, that along with "edgy" may have been the true tipping point, shit like chanology put us at the brink, but taht initial wave of newfags that dulled 4chan with secret club, and edgy really really hurt the website, losing out on gore threads and CP and lurk moar and reddit being very acceptable are absolute killers, because we lose almost all of our filtering, so newfags never have to anything nasty, that would be too much for them, and get them to fuck off.

I don't know, though, there was this weird thing where every comic would start updating less and less frequently the moment I finished binging the 1000-comic long archives.

>>343504334
I think /vp/ was where it began.
There was no serious problem with Pokemon, it infested the board only when a highly anticipated game came out, same as any other game. You should've seen /v/ when Mass Effect 2 came out. But apparently /v/ can't handle games they don't like so they bitched and moaned to moot until he caved and made /vp/. The ironic thing is he didn't do it until a few months after HGSS came out, after the "infestation" had already died down and stayed mostly in one thread. The split didn't solve much of anything, it was a placebo effect. /v/ was exactly the same, as this screenshot I took the day after /vp/ was made shows. But this taught /v/ that whenever you don't like something, bitch and moan until it goes away. This caused /vg/ to be made, and even more vidya left /v/. /vr/ is a weird case where no one really asked for it though, but nonetheless it took even more vidya discussion away from /v/. And I honestly just scoff whenever someone suggests splitting /v/ further.

yes there was. the board was being intentionally flooded with Pokemon threads. but it was mostly shitposters, not actual Pokemon fans. moot needed to get mods who were actually interested in doing their jobs instead of the chucklefucks we ended up with.
and they say /v/ hasn't changed. honestly, 4chan along with the rest of the internet has changed. we can't fix it, it's far too late.

Hes not, I distinctly remember the board being flooded nonstop with Pokemon waifufag threads (multiple at a time) and people pretty much memetically posting random pokemon threads just to have more random pokemon threads. It was a problem because not even the catalog could save you.
You are however correct that it set a bad precedent and the brief quality increase the board enjoyed after /vp/ was made, which only lasted like a week, wasn't worth it.

I love Policeman, saw this when it came out.
I've been with this site since March 2004, I have seen pretty much everything it did and the people it has ruined/elevated.
I saw the internet grow during that time period, when Livejournal was as close to social media as it got.
Threads like these only seem to happen in the quiet times. It's almost like a moment of silence. I can pick out almost everything linked and understand the mindsets during the time they were made.
I don't miss it. Not because it wasn't good, or fun, but because it wouldn't be what it was if it came back. You can't go home again. Never forget that, anons old and young alike.
The 500,000th post on /b/ was a man being banned for the GET being so stupid. It was the very first post I saw. The only thing more remarkable than the fact he got banned for it was the amount of cheering afterward.

You can miss something, and still appreciate that it'll only ever have been good at the time. I wouldn't want any of that back now, because it's been and gone, but I still love it for having been in the first place.
I have a lot of nostalgia for Brawl. The time after Brawl's release is what really got me into english youtube. Stuff like Killerspatula and Perfectedidiot, I think those were the names.
So the Brawl intro, now 8 years old, is pure nostalgia for me.
