for anyone that cares
the translation for wizardry gaiden iv was just finished.
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/2061/
same old wizardry, just more weeb oriented.
>>343476572
I thought this was a wizardry 4 port
ah right, just in case people don't notice the letters in bold.
remember to change the language in the options before you start the game.
>>343476749
nope, completely different game
the original iv was too balls to the wall, so they made this or some shit like that.
>>343476572
Man that looks a whole lot like SMT.
Hows the animation and music (or lack thereof) compared to the likes of Wizardry 6?
>>343477318
played a bit before the patch, going to jump into it in a bit
music is about what you'd expect.
character races and classes of Wizardries 6-8 but the character statistics and game mechanics of 1-3 is the best description so far
>>343477694
also about as much animation as the first three games.
so none.
>>343477694
>>343477795
Cheers. Might give a spin sooner or later.
>>343478263
have fun.about as much fun as you can have with a wizardry game i mean
but yeah, fun.
Reminds me of SMT. Is it balls to the walls hard like the original IV? Remember reading about the protag being the bad guy and that sounds cool.
>>343478817
the original iv is not for mortal men.
Nice. Still waiting on the Wizardry DS game to be translated as well though.
>>343478817
wizardry 4 is a death trap.
if you were to stick a man in a room and force him to stay in there until he beats it, he actually has a chance of never getting out of there.
>>343479230
>>343480019
Jesus
>>343479230
That doesn't sound fun at all.
>>343476572
nice, thanks a bunch
I rarely finish wizardry games since they're so long, but i've enjoyed all of them
>>343480324
it's not supposed to be.
from what i remember it was made in response to people saying the games weren't hard enough.
so the dev just said fuck it and went absolutely nuts.
>>343480538
60% of Wizardry's playtime is spent quickloading because your party wiped on some laughably underpowered enemies.
>>343479230
>that last paragraph in the final post
>>343476572
how do i get into wizardry?
one last bump.
here's a guide for people who are interested in checking some of these games out who also happen to have a vita.
if you don't have a vita, that's okay, there's at least a couple of wizardry type games for almost every platform like class of heroes and eliminage on the psp
>>343481720
try a more modern type of game so it doesn't rape you in the ass and sours you on the genre, then work your way to the others.
class of heroes and the wizardry game on the ps3 is alright, even though the latter feels pretty barebones
>>343481720
You don't, that's why the series is dead.
>>343481803
I'm not sure if I should get Dungeon Travelers 2 or Stranger of Sword City next.
I'm leaning towards dungeon travelers because I loved Strange Journey's sadistic dungeon layouts
>>343482385
wizardry itself maybe.
there will never be an end to the clones though
>>343479230
>>343480019
What drives those people to even make these games, let alone finish them?
>>343482497
haven't played stranger yet.
DT2 is a huge fucking game though and will definitely last you a while as long as all the enemies being cute girls doesn't rub you the wrong way.
you'll definitely get your moneys worth
>>343482642
>make these games
Spite.
>let alone finish them?
Spite.
If you're curious about Wizardry IV, there's a complete screenshot-based let's play
http://lparchive.org/Wizardry-IV/
After reading it you only ask one thing:
Why?
>>343482784
>as long as all the enemies being cute girls doesn't rub you the wrong way
Cute girls always make everything better
>>343476572
>tfw Japan likes dungeon crawlers more than the west, who pretty much invented them and keep making them
>>343482335
>>343482385
Im a SMT fag so i dont have a problem with games fucking my shit up
>>343483704
You think you know but you dont
>>343483704
have fun then man.
if you play the original ones, look for some maps online
>>343483704
Poor creature, may God have mercy on your soul.
>>343479230
>not meant for mortals
so does that mean anyone who plays IV are immortal?
>>343484290
If being dead inside counts as immortal, sure.
>>343484332
Its not -that- bad.
>>343484478
It's pretty bad.
>>343482497
DT2 is definitely the best dungeon crawler available on the console.
SoSC is enjoyable and has great art, but it's not in the same league in terms of dungeon design, character customization, boss battles, etc.
>>343480628
I appreciate a good challenge, but I am glad that modern dungeon crawlers have largely dropped things like getting ambushed by a horde of level draining enemies.
>>343479230
Doesn't sound cool or anything. Just stupid game design.
>>343485538
>its hard so is bad
fuck off
>>343479230
I've seen many screencaps about this game, and still I find people talking about new things on how it's hard.
>>343485763
I read it and I don't care. It's bad game design on his part. You should want people to play and enjoy your game. Making it tedious ironically is childish.
>>343485921
They made the game harder in response to their own paying customers wishing for the games to be harder. That isn't childish.
>>343485572
There are several questionable design choices like playing an RPG where you can't control your party
>>343482642
LONDON
>>343483048
But normal monsters are cooler than """"monster"""" girls.
>>343486470
Not when you're fucking them they ain't.
>>343481803
>Only Vita titles.
>>343486751
Japan is the reason the market for Dungeon Crawlers never died out, and Japan likes vita. What systems do you own?
>>343486751
When it comes to traditional dungeon crawling all you got these days are obscure DS games and otaku bait Vita games
>>343487462
A toaster and a ps3. Was expecting to see at least one PC title but aside from Legend Of Grimrock(not turn-based) and the upcoming Bard's tale the genre is fucking death in the west.
What's the best game to start playing this genre? I don't really mind playing old dos titles, as long as the game is good I'm in.
>>343486751
At least Stranger of Sword City has a steam release.
>>343488073
Kinda off topic but I really hope that the new Underworld ends up being good.
>>343488665
>dos
you are gonna need to play some MSX shit kiddo
>>343488665
If you don't mind the anime aesthetic, you could check out the more recent Etrian Odyssey series.
>>343490618
Which game? I've emulated the old Metal gear games so I'm not totally unfamiliar with MSX emulation.
>>343490715
I'm not a big fan of anime aesthetic but I like the designs of Etrian Odyssey for some reason. How's the combat in those games?
>>343491010
Combat is pretty good for me, but I haven't played many older dungeon crawlers. It's probably somewhat simple and a lot easier compared to them, but I like how status effects actually work and are vital to beating some bosses. Depending on which one you play, you can mix two classes for some really neat skill combos, like a mage that gets more damage and mana regeneration due to its secondary class.
>>343488665
SMT Strange Journey if you want something unique
Etrian Odyssey if you want a modernized Wizardry
Dark Spire if you want the real old school dungeon crawler experience
>>343491998
>SMT Strange Journey
Played like the first hour of that one, from what I remember it had a neat system based on weak points. How's SMT Nocturne in comparison?
>>343492483
Combat is better and demon fusion system doesn't punish you as much for being a horder. That said there might as well not be a storyline and the dungeons are lame.
>>343492483
I'd argue that Nocturne is the better game, but Strange Journey is a first person dungeon crawler with a higher difficulty than Nocturne, and like the other anon said, SJ has a more interesting story.
>>343479230
>John Romero's wife finished this game in a fortnight
>>343493472
Sounds cool, does it emulate well?
Just got wiz8 off steam. It's on sale for practically nothing
You fags know if 6/7 are worth a buy?
>>343495447
SJ yes, Nocturne somewhat.
>>343495447
shadow problems
>>343495565
>>343495759
Sounds good to me. What about Etrian Odyssey? Which of the DS titles is the best one or should I play them in order?
>>343495450
>Not playing 6, 7 and 8 in order
The best way to play is importing your saves from previous games, only 4 and 5 are standalone games.
>>343495992
Might as well play them in order, but if you only want to play one, then 3 is generally agreed to be the most fun. 2 is the most balanced and also fun, and 1 is broken but can be fun.
>>343494497
That's bullshit but I believe it .jpg
>>343496038
Yeah, I caught onto that when the game started me out with an intro about me flying around in a spaceship with a fucking wookie. Obviously I'm missing out on the story somewhat.
>>343496582
Before you continue, read this shit
http://www.hardcoregaming101.net/wizardry/wizardry.htm
>>343496832
So... What am I supposed to take rom this? I like the game, I'm just wondering if 6/7 are required playing.
As for what I think of wiz* - it's pretty good. Shame we don't have that many system-heavy rpgs like this any more .
>>343497418
Well, then just try. You can import your save from 7, so you can continue the series with your previous party. Also, 6 sounds like a better starting point than 8.
>>343496038
I played 8 first
I'm going to play the series backwards, I did the same thing with Sly Cooper and it was pretty fun
Wiz8 is legitimately one of the best RPGs I've ever played, for that matter
Is Wizardry on PSN any good
Are the Japanese ports of Wizardry better than the original?
>>343477102
>the original iv was too balls to the wall, so they made this or some shit like that.
Nothing like that. This is from the Wizardry Gaiden series. It's not in response to the main Wizardry series, the Japs got those games AND the Wizardry Gaiden games. They got a tonne of extra Wizardry games.
>>343496038
6 is kinda... oldschool.
Basically reroll an optimum party with max stats or fuck off.
