So let me get this straight.
The snail caused Eric's Mom to walk a different path which caused her to be Mira's first kill. Which led to Eric's dad going crazy and killing Chris. Also causing Akane's father to be falsely arrested followed by her mothers suicide. Sean is the boy at the end obviously. but the one thing I don't know is How the taxi driver and surgeon connected?

I'd like to know what happened to Uchi's vision of Zero Escape between VLR and ZTD.

Did the cinematic style shift it?
Did "catering" to the American demographic give him the wrong idea of what he needed to create?
Did time change it?

Yes actually.

Well, VLR being for nothing, Akane, Sigma and Phi being a trio of useless dumbasses, Carlos creating the timeline where R6 doesn't spread in 5 minutes, Brother being good all along, Free the Soul not being the evil endgame, etc.

All of those ruined the game for me. AYY LMAOS was just the most pathetic development

I'm still looking for the bar scene where Eric referred to Sean as Q, but in the meantime I found this, in the don't inject radical-6 node. They start talking to Q near the end of it but in this scene the camera had panned all around the bar and Q is nowhere to be seen. Complete and utter bullshit.

Carlos creates a future where Radical-6 doesn't spread by winning the coin toss, but the entire human race will still be wiped out in nuclear war.

There's literally only one ending where Radical-6 actually gets out and it is the one leading to VLR. Every other one leads to nuclear holocaust except the final ending.

What did you find so bad about the game? The only issue I had was Kyle not being brought up.
>>
I don't know how I feel about the terrorist causing nuclear war thing

At least in VLR Radical-6 was brought up early on, developed, and went: outbreak -> exploding annihilation reactors (either b/c of suicide or fanaticism) -> RIP 6 billion

In ZTD it's just: vague terrorist attack -> instant global nuclear war

What kind of terrorism makes all the nuke-holding governments blow each other to shit? It's just thrown at you in the last 1/4 of the game, with NO detail whatsoever, and you're just meant to accept it results in everyone dying.
>>
What was the point of the Delta twist, him being there changes literally nothing in any scene besides making you think "oh I guess he could have been there yeah"

It's like it's only there to fill a quota, "Oh the other games had these crazy plot twists so this one needs it too even though it's completely pointless"

Another instance: in the Yellow Door node you can see Q's shadow on the floor in a few cuts, but the camera pans around the entire room and Q isn't even remotely visible in any cut at all. >What kind of terrorism makes all the nuke-holding governments blow each other to shit?

You do know how nuclear deterrence works right? The governments of the world keep a stockpile of nuclear weapons in order to make sure that other countries with nukes don't do the same to them. If just 1 country launches an unwarranted nuclear attack the rest of the world would be on their ass and would be looking for ways to spin the attack to their advantage by using it as an excuse to launch their own attack somewhere else
>>

Why would there be? I get he said we'd find out what happened to him in ZTD, but considering he apparently meant just epilogue shit for the other 999 characters, why would he get any more?
>ROBES
You would have to be straight up retarded to not get that was referring to Akane having gone to the meeting in Beginning or End.
>FTS is destroyed off screen
Their headquarters were. Considering they have 1,000,000+ members, an important building getting destroyed is hardy the destruction of the entire organization.
>Left
He was Delta's adopted brother, it was never a mystery.
>Brother is a good guy
...What?
He did things to achieve a higher goal that could be considered 'good', but that was the case even before the end of ZTD, and certainly nobody thinks of him as a 'good guy'.

Espers passively buff other espers if they're around them. Sigma and Phi are both powerful espers, but to even activate their abilities they needed Junpei, Clover and probably Dio around to help them all boost their abilities to the maximum and unlock them. Carlos was the same, he needed to be around Junpei and Akane to give his abilities the kick they needed to activate. Diana doesn't seem like she can jump, but she can access the Morphogenetic field far easier than Carlos can.
By the end of the game, there are a total of 6 powerful espers all gathered in one place. Considering only two or three were needed to boost Sigma and Phi (who were already latent themselves) it's no surprise that 6 espers were able to carry the weight of two normies.

It's introduced in the final entry in the game, the one that should be wrapping everything up, with no foreshadowing, and isn't even explored that well. It's just, "Oh, I guess we have aliens now." If the technology wasn't explicitly said to be made by aliens or didn't look like alien technology, it could have the exact same role and be at least a little better. If the series was oriented around alien technology from the first or second game, that'd be fine. The concept isn't inherently bad, but the execution in ZTD absolutely is.

>>
>your best plan to kill one guy with as much information and power at your fingertips as delta is to kill 6 billion people and hope you hit the jackpot
>>
>>343482493
SHIFTers do that.
ZTD establishes that there are three esper types: Morpho's, SHIFTers, and Mind Hackers. Morpho's boost each other, SHIFTers absorb the essence of weaker espers, and Mind Hackers are unnaffected by either of them. Being good at one means your worse as the other. Junpei, a Morpho, isn't good at SHIFTing until he's around Carlos, a natural SHIFTer, and Akane, who in general is a strong psychic. With enough training, you can presumably be strong at either.
What happens is the different routes train the different party members, who then upload their memories/thoughts/skill to the Morphogenetic Field, which are then downloaded into their bodies, so they remember how to SHIFT. In essence, the Carlos, Junpei, Akane, Phi, Sigma and Diana of the farthest left route are a combination of every possible version of themselves that played the Decision Game.

Not even necessarily to cash in on success though, Uchi is westaboo as fuck and I bet he digs it. I bet he very easily arrived at the thought "Okay, how can I use this form of adventure storytelling to tell a twist about how you're seeing from Zero's point of view?"

Translation awkwardness. I'm assuming in Japanese Delta said something like 「いい事を教えてやる」. Although that literally means "I'm going to tell you a good thing," the figurative meaning is closer to "I'm going to tell you a secret" or "I'm going to tell you something interesting."

Was it just me, or did ZTD's translation feel a bit more awkward than previous games? I noticed it especially whenever they brought up Carlos' sister complex.

What was with the developers being so focused on making this game newcomer friendly? It's the last game in the series so it's not like VLR where there was any executive meddling to try and make it reach a broader audience. It felt pretty odd whenever Akane and Junpei talked about the events of 999 and neither, Junpei especially, ever brought up that Akane was Zero
>>
>>343484358

While I appreciate that the game is different from its predecessors I have to agree with the review that it's the worst zero escape game and time won't be kind to it.
Unlike the previous 2 where I was engaged throughout the experience I'm 10 hours in Zero time dilemma and I'm not very impressed. The new characters are lame and Akane and Junpei are now assholes.

Also I never thought the puzzles in Zero escape were good. Unlike proper puzzle games where puzzles have the same mechanics but progressively more difficult like Portal, Zero escape just takes difficult puzzles from puzzle books.

Dialogue was never a good part of the series. Who the fuck has time to talk about some obscure scientific theory when a bomb is going to explode in front of you.

Medicine tablets + screen.

Each specific tablet pack has a corresponding number, and the screen beside where you get those tablets are color-coded. Can't remember the specific colors, but say for example the pack of green tablets form a number 1. The screen beside it has the penguin on a green background, which means you put the penguin on the leftmost side

Uchikoshi has explicitly said as much.
http://www.usgamer.net/articles/zero-time-dilemma-brings-spike-chunsofts-sci-fi-thriller-to-a-new-frontier
>When I spoke with Zero Escape creator Kotaro Uchikoshi at today's reveal, I immediately had to address just how much Zero Time Dilemma divorces itself from the format of the past two games. Unsurprisingly, he cites Telltale's The Walking Dead as his inspiration for breaking away from a more conservative genre, claiming that mass appeal is now vital for Spike-Chunsoft's operations — a Japanese audience alone can't sustain the production of their adventure games.

Truly a game for the fans, thanks Unkokoshi.
>>
>>343484420
I had the exact same thought. As someone who went through the VLR's Japanese track for the first time as a refresher about two months ago, I was really surprised by and impressed with how localized English text was. Not in the censorship way /v/ demonizes, but as a way of making the dialogue sound natural and as if naive English speakers said it while retaining the same information and impact. ZTD has so many awkward sentences and constructions like needlessly throwing 2–3 negatives in a sentence when one would do and just has shit that not even weebs on image boards say often. It's the same shit as in Persona 4 Arena. I can't take the game seriously when someone says "Oh, you're the sister-complex kingpin of steel" with a completely straight face. No one talks like that in English.

I think the main problem is that Aksys, like Atlus, recently lost its main editor that touched pretty much every single game that went out the door. And now that they're gone, the replacements aren't nearly as good. Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker had a lot of similarly shitty writing compared to ZTD, and it makes me fear for Persona 5's writing quality.
>>
>>343485468

Going all solo in the puzzles and making decisions all by yourself seems really, really comfy.

That contradicts his mindhack powers because he can't really use it to predict the future like Akane can. It was a wild ride until the puzzles ran out and Uchi couldn't provide a reasonable catharsis to Junpei/Akane (my main issue) or the ending of VLR.

VLR paves a lot of groundwork for FtS and it's basically ignored in ZTD. ZTD does some really good filling in like the stranded pair ending, the apocalypse ending...etc. But no captivating reason to deliver radical six

For instance, what if Radical six was used to prevent SHIFTing so we wouldn't have a bunch of time jumpers from infinite timelines fucking things up for everyone on all the other timelines? That's probably a good reason to release a virus than to kill a would-be terrorist.

I have a feeling the scope was much greater and cuts were made to the story.

The whole facility and everything in it is only possible because he made it - and they only send the babies back in time.
Did Diana and Sigma get it on in another timeline and produce a non-Esper powered baby? Did Delta grow up in that timeline, get his hands on an alien cloning time machine and then put a gun to Siggy and Diana's head and tell them to make fuck which produced esper babies that he sent back in time to fucking germany so that Delta could grow up and live for fucking-ever because he's some sort of time traveling clone thing so he could lock his would be parents up in a facility so they could make fuck and produce babies creating a loop?

You can do it using the alien time machine.

Uchi has plural histories but uses a tree-like schema for branching paths.

Just introduce the virus at the root of the tree with the ayylmao virus. You can even handwave it if you so choose to be something like the spanish flu that killed millions of people way back in the day.

VLR end can be a "virus released too late" bad end. At least it's more plot relevant than "random terrorist"

Anons, what was the most enjoyable execution/death scene for you?

The Carlos and Akane standoff was just so hilariously bad, with Akane suddenly going insane, destroying the couch, going out to shut down the lights, and then cutting Carlos' left hand before getting her neck sliced Couldn't stop laughing for a good while after that

Okay.

>One ending Radical 6 is released, Akane confirms it's the VLR timeline. She even drugs Junpei.
>In the events leading up to the force quit box and the reveal, Delta talks about how he needed to see how timelines change because of decisions
>Since he ran the game, and saw his mom and dad get stranded, he exists in the first place
>Sigma and Phi send their brains back from the future to try and stop radical 6 from ever happening
>Zero caught onto this before the decision game started, which partially explains the coin toss and all that bullshit he was going on about the future of mankind.
>The payoff 2 ending is important because even though it fades to black, it shows that delta got all the information he needed because of how he can view other histories and how he learns about shifting
>Which makes VLR more relevant and so on.

Can't really explain why he thought releasing radical 6 was gonna work in the first place since the 2nd payoff ending, it doesn't happen.

Or maybe he injected someone, let's say carlos with Radical 6 after he made them all fall asleep after the coin toss

Since after all They did Shift to when everyone was outside DCOM...After they were drugged. As Sigma said, they don't know exactly what went down in there, after all

Only thing I can't think of right now honestly is to prevent shifters coming into the survivors from alternate timelines, but ideally that wouldn't happen since those timelines couldn't occur in the first place. Holy fuck man, I just finished the game like 2 minutes ago and I had caught glimpses of threads where people said it was a pile of shit, but I didn't want to believe. I haven't felt like this since finishing MGSV last year. Honestly, I can forgive most of the small problems and the really wonky animations ruining some of the scenes, but what really got me was:

1. No payoff for the whole Akane is going to wear the robes to some meeting in the future
2. AYY LMAO Technology
3. Some of the characters acting really out of fucking character despite what they've already gone through like why the fuck are Sigma, Phi, or Akane freaking out whenever someone dies or is about to die when they know about shifting and they've done it and acted nonchalant about it in VLR?
4. The whole Q was actually Delta and was there the whole time thing. I get that there were some references I missed, but unlike the Sigma is an old dude plot twist, it felt like they cheated given there was little foreshadowing

I really wanted to love this game, and I could even forgive Uchi not making good on all those promises about the story he made given their tight budget and time frame, but I still feel like I got Kojima'd. I even started looking on the internet to see if I missed some hidden ending like VLR had, but no.

>>
>>343483283

Not him but these are some I noticed:

Such as why did Seven not mention that Akane didn't die? Why did he specifically say she did die? He should have recognized Aoi/Santa and Akane once he regained his memories, yet never mentioned anything. Why? Why not mention it in the safe route when he regained his memories before shit started popping off?

Why did Snake not recognize Seven's voice? Can't use the puberty excuse there. Why did Snake say Akane died? Snakes bracelet is on his fake arm. How does it detect his heartbeat?

Akane's bracelet actually being a 9 is pointless. Santas being a 0 is equally pointless. Literally only there for the reader.

Why the fuck did Ace go through the Library/study door instead of just going the fast way to the incinerator? The story made a point to stress that the so-called-ship was built 100% the same as the first nonary game. Was this one thing changed?

Junpei, despite being Akane's childhood friend, never once thought to ask "do you have any siblings"? She, as a child, never volunteered this info? They were elementary school students, so the siblings should have been going to the same school.

First 2 could be explained by saying that they are co-conspirators, but since it's not mentioned or hinted in the story it's a plot-hole. Third is just shitty writing, I guess. Rest is plot holes.

I usually hate goody two-shoes characters, because more often than not they don't develop further beyond that. However, with Carlos, I think his naïveté and perceived lack of urgency beyond his main goal of saving his sister is what's most endearing about him.

Really, there's a ton of stupid and hilarious shit in this game, and Carlos is usually directly involved or causing it.
>>
>>343488419
I agree with most of your points besides #4. I felt the same way after I finished, but there's actually a ridiculous amount of foreshadowing. It's more what they don't show than what they do: it's hard to believe that not once did anyone from Q team or any of the other teams once they met up directly reference Q.

Mira's there because she gets Akane involved.
Akane gets Junpei involved because of his detective work.

This was explained in two separate endings, even if it was vague.

Then again, if Phi didn't interrupt him, he might have spilled the beans about Akane setting up the AB game, which would fuck over Sigma and Phi's plan to shift to the past.

>Yes but mutations still occurs and the game implies that you can active your almonds before nutting by being in danger and you get super kids

R6 could weed out that specific mutation as mentioned, and moreover, 999 events imply that Cradle Pharm had to go through shittons of kidnappings and profiling and research, only to find 18 kids who had affinity for the field, and AFAIK none of them were actual shifters. Only Sigma and Phi could shift. Akane who had huge affinity couldn't shift during the nonary games.

If they are a small minority throughout most of the timeline, it shouldn't be a problem to purge shifters.

Was the entire project in VLR rendered pointless by the fact that Kyle's not relevant to ZTD at all? From what I took from the Another Time ending it seemed like Kyle's consciousness was the key to getting an outcome in ZTD where everyone survived. It seems like a good ZTD end was possible without VLR even happening due to infinite timelines and shit. But after finishing the game I'm even more confused about timeline stuff so there's probably something I've got wrong

A person is brought to a mansion where he's told four stories from its history and then learns the layers of truth behind them and how they relate to each other and the person's own identity. It's easily the best story I've read in years. The soundtrack is also great and there's a link to the demo in the Steam forums. Don't know why it's not on the store page.
>>
>>343488678
The shadows, and to a lesser extent Eric talking to "Gab" aren't the best examples of foreshadowing, and they do feel kind of like the writers just put it in to prove to people that the twist wasn't a complete asspull. I think the best instances of foreshadowing are when you know something is off the first time, but you don't realize why. For example, in the three-way standoff, if you enter Q, it tells you to put in Q's name, but if you enter Sean, it doesn't work. I was really confused at this point and just decided that Zero must've lied about Sean's name. The other best part is if you tell Eric that Q killed Mira. He says that doesn't make any sense and shoots you. I honestly thought the devs fucked up at this point and forgot to program a response for Q because they had one for Sean, but later it all makes sense.

Yeah, those actually were good examples, along with being told there were 9 participants in Dcom, yet among the 9 people in the Decision Game nobody recognised Sean. My only point is that the given examples of the camera fuckery were bullshit.

Nigger the drink is there for the entire scene not moving at all, same with Mira's. And every time you do see Delta's shadow it's in the same spot. And there's no way he just moved around in the pod room unless he also has the power to shrink himself behind people's shoulders to not be seen.

I know.
Had a bunch of ideas for how his resemblance to Left could work. Implanted memories, his life being a lie. Perhaps being a Left that was a product of a time paradox, or a clone that lost his memories very early on.
Hell, he could've been Brother but somehow be unaware of it.
As much as I adore him, I wish Uchi took advantage of his Left-like looks. Would've been a far more graceful and satisfying way of tying Free the Soul into the story as well.

Do you know that he says the same line as Dio in one of the escape rooms? Oh, and in some of the promo materials he was the only participant situated left.
Has Uchi just been bullshitting us or something?
>>
>>343489575
I had it out for him ever since then, with his "what an idiot" thing
>>
>>343489523
No, your point was the ridiculous amount of foreshadowing was poorly made and that's is bullshit in the majority of cases
>>
>tfw what makes me the most mad is that there was nothing as emotional as 999's ending where Snake dies or VLR's Luna ending in the game

I thought the ending where Diana gives birth to Phi and Delta was pretty neat though, probably the best O FUCK moment in the game.

Akane and Junpei were needed to resonate with Carlos.

Sean was needed to help carry out his plan and also because Delta missed the real Sean who died because his surgeon died in a taxi accident.

Mira was there because she helped set off the events with the killing at the trail with the snail. Eric was there because his mother died to Mira.

Not what shows on the chart. You get other scenes if you do different combinations, for example even if you already did each choice individually, go back and condemn each team. IE: do both votes for C team/Q team/D team. You get the scenes where they die and new paths unlock.

Debunk? Do you mean find a way to effectively pretend ZTD's events don't matter?

I dunno, maybe you can use the Multiverse theory to say that the ZTD is only a possibility of what could've went down at the test site. If you wanna get extra petty about it, you can say that the mild lack of continuity between VLR and ZTD is because the VLR timeline that ZTD leads up to isn't the one we know. What actually occurred at the test site, along with its epilogue, could've been different.
