Which weapons really benefit from Aerial style and get a cool gimmick? I've messed around with Greatsword, Hammer, Dual Blade and Insect Glaive and only Hammer is kind of shit

Aerial SwAxe is pretty good, since if you jump off the monster in sword mode you get a free hit on the way up AND the way down, so double the hits most other weapons get. Also can charge-blast mid-air, kinda like how the charge blade ultra blasts mid-air.

Best you can do is wait on final release. I still remember spending time in rooms in 4U discussing strategies while waiting on other hunters to change sets or make items. The whole attacking while someone was mounting was repeated often, doing nothing but spamming songs while using a HH from the other side of the field, and Apex hunts in general if someone didn't have Wystones.

Ranged attacks totally ruin the owl. Just had a group of two bows, a bowgun, and a GS and it didn't stand a chance. No risk of confusion and for the dive-bombs it targets where you were, not where you're currently at. Gunners can leisurely walk away from everything it does.

Have you ever tried it? It's absolutely amazing for chasing monsters when you're online. Quickly turn your back to the monster and hop three times and you're halfway across the arena in the blink of an eye and can get back to poking. It takes some serious getting used-to so you aren't ruining your positioning every combo but once I did I couldn't go back.

And I haven't tested it out in Gen yet but in 4U you couldn't chain three of those mega hops in quick succession like normal hops. It was for one big burst and not travel at a sustained speed.

Also, gunning is a bit harder for newer players than using blademaster weapons. Stick with blademaster until you get how critical distance and different ammo/coatings for bowguns work. Bow's a bit easier to get into, but don't forget to equip coatings and don't spam the bows level 1 charge. Also don't forget that the blade wire hunters art will trip every hunter who gets hit and should never be used online. I hate it.

My biggest worry was that the flashy shit would be overpowering and the game would be less about careful, calculated hits and more about what attack looks the coolest. This fear was truly unfounded. The artes seem merely okay at best and the bulk of the hunt is down-to-earth.

I don't know weapon tiers nor do I care too much but after playing Frontier DB they absolutely deserve it if they are the best weapon.
They seem very risky to use, chip damage is everywhere and monsters have awful hitboxes while you are constantly draining HP. I ended the night with Gurenzeburu and only about 1 of his attacks has a proper hitbox. The charge in particular and it's jump attacks are just absolutely disgusting
