So the 480x is killing motherboards.
All because it draws more power over the PCI-E slot than the spec allows.

>>
>>343425891

If I'm waiting a month or two, I'd rather hold off and see how the 1060 performs first. The power draw issue with the 480's definitely sounds like something that can be fixed with a new crimson release tho.
>>
What modern GPU doesn't besides poorfag ones?

Isn't that the entire point of having PSU plugs?

Shit, I remember the GTX 280 required two 8-pin connectors and it drew around 500w of power

The thing is that it pulls more than the on-spec 75W from the PCI-E slot only. The additional 8 pins connectors aren't involved in that draw.

I have done that bretheren, at first I thought the pump wasn't working but I can hear and feel the hoses pumping coolant, also, after re-seating the block many times I ran out of thermal pasta, all I have left is cheap thermal compound from radio shack.
Perhaps one more try with the cheap stuff can't hurt much.

My guess is they realised that the card wasn't the 980 killer it was marketed as, and was actually loosing against 970 and even R9 390, but realised it too late into the production and they couldn't change the power inputs anymore.

Which retard buys reference though, that's basically only for benchmarks and optimalization.

It's well-known that AMD hardware is subpar compared to Intel + Nvidia hardware. This is also further compounded by the fact that Intel + Nvidia have better drivers and a better relationship with game developers. Intel + Nvidia is well-supported and well optimized.

AMD is the budget-bin bargain thrift-store 2nd-rate bottom-bucket off-brand no-name poor-people choice. AMD tried to make up for this with Mantle, but Mantle failed.

Asus made a faulty third party card, reference design has no issues. I believe that card was discontinued.

>>
>>343428371
That's not "the 960". This problem exists on the Asus Strix 960 card, only.

You cannot compare a faulty third party card to a faulty reference design. No other 960 has this issue.

One thing is a huge issue and one thing is why I learned to avoid asus like 12 years ago

>>
>>343427826
>AMD is the budget-bin bargain thrift-store 2nd-rate bottom-bucket off-brand no-name poor-people choice

Maybe years ago, now AMD is the combination of a shitty architecture, and poor value. Back when Nvidia cards caused housefires, and power consumption was nobody's concern, sure, AMD was questionably cheaper. Nowadays, unless you are talking about the ultra cheap lowest-end stuff, any gaming hardware from AMD might cost you more than buying from Nvidia; because Nvidia managed to release powerful cards that run at lower temperatures and consume less power. AMD on the other hand still run with their ORC philosophy (MORE CORES), runs red hot, and consumes more power, and the gap will keep getting bigger between AMD and Nvidia, this would be worse if it was not because DX12 is currently fucking with Nvidia's performance. This is the only reason why the gap does not seem bigger.

You probably could, assuming a modern i5 or something like that. The 480 is drawing an average of ~165w under load, so even assuming something ridiculous like 200w per card that still leaves 150w for the rest of the system which would be enough
