I think that it was difficult simply because when the game came out we were still kids trying to get better at hand eye coordination and pre planning our actions. The older you get the easier Nintendo games become.

Not gonna lie, I liked this part for being interesting.
I absolutely hated the Shadow Manta boss, though. I ate at least 200 lives trying to do it as a kid.

Manta is easy since the ink gives you infinite coins so if you lose hp you can just keep watering it.
The annoying part is when it becomes purple. You can either use the hover and spin in air to kill them or just spray while walking in circles.

I think the Watermelon pissed me off the most, but Pachinko and that fucking waterride were harder, so ungodly fucking hard. Especially Pachinko, that was just 'you have to get lucky'-bullshit.
I kind of liked Sunshine's bullshit difficulty, but I can see how it turned some people off. Mario games now are way too easy, though. They should have found something inbetween.

It wasn't that hard. Since it's all cubes, you can easily jump on the bird's side when it's turning. Like where the wings meet the back for instance.
