It's inspired by Castlevania.

Maybe Symphony of the Night was the same then, given how everyone wants the game to emulate it.
>>

I don't think it'll be that big of a hit but I think it'll at least be a good game

Literally every Castlevania Iga worked on except for Harmony of Dissonance starts out slow with improved movement and faster skills coming later.

Nothing will be as much of a blunder as MN9.

That said, Bloodstained is shaping up to be average-mediocre.
>>
The demo proved it will outdo MN9. The 16 minutes I spent playing the demo provided me with more entertainment than playing an hour of the completed Mighty No 9
>>
>>343351418
The demo proved otherwise. It's pretty fun so far.

That seems strange. The power absorption seems to be more in line with AoS/DoS than OoE. You don't have to hold up to absorb or some nonsense like that. Soul comes out, Soul goes in.

So yeah, two parts SoTN, one part AoS/DoS seems more like the ticket.

Apparently the backers are enjoying the demo, so it's already doing way better than Mighty No. 9.

Yooka-Laylee looks good, Bloodstained looks good, it would appear Mighty No. 9 is the anomaly in terms of fuckups.

Would it be wrong to assume people are smarter about Kickstarters now, and the really bad ones are pretty mostly from the original Kickstarter boom, where people were naive and easier to be fooled compared to now?

Also, where can a non-backer get the demo?

The Bloodstained Kickstarter closing stream was comfy as fuck.

It had drunk IGA and Ben Judd yelling "Die monster!" and "Objection!" at each other constantly, whipping candles, and Bismarck Kappa III. It had the rush of raising a million dollars in the last hour. It was fantastic.

I truly feel sorry for anyone who wasn't a part of the campaign.

Castlevania Judgement was pretty fucking bad and ultimately what killed his career at Konami. But it was also a fighting game and not at all the kind of game he or his team were used to working on, so it's not really applicable here.

Yeah, essentially what sets everything in motion is the Alchemist's Guild seeing that everyone's begun to put their faith in science and technology helping the world, so they plan to unleash the demons of hell and the crystal curse onto the world to prove that they're still needed. It backfires when they use Gebel as a vessel for the curse and he kills all of them in retaliation, except for Johannes who'd already left the Guild as he disagreed with the plan.

Wasn't David Hayter going to voice someone in this game?

That aside, if they just fine tune it a little, I can tell it's going to be at the least good, if not fantastic. Hopefully they give it 200percent, because if this does well, then they could easily go on to do sequels, or other projects. Unlike Inafune who will now have a hard time convincing people to trust him, god I can't imagine how that legends successor is going to turn out, I want to hope well for it.

I want to know how many staff members are returning. Since Konami fired everyone, Iga could potentially create an all-star list of people who worked on the handheld titles. I know Shutaro Iida is returning.

But we need to remember that just because a few return, doesn't mean anything. MN9 had a bunch of "Mega Man Veterans", but they were all artists and composers. Plus Ini-Creates is pretty mediocre and only make good games when they have talented people running them. They're only good for grunt work.

When I was a young man, I liked fable alot. When I heard about the release of fable 2 with a bunch of extras I pre-ordered it months in advance because they promised swag box and a hobby figurine.

They removed almost all of the extra stuff like a month before launch, including the hobby figurine.

The worst part was on the extras
DVD, there was a slideshow of the figurine in different places with the tagline "send us a picture of your figurine!"

Let's just say I'm happy that studio is gone now.

Most people that like castlevania also like metroid. With Iga we get it that he was forced by konami to milk the series doing that spinoff because looking at his previous works it's obvious a fighting games aren't his expertise. Sakamoto decided to take the main franchise in a diferent angle even when he already knew Samus isn't supposed to act like that, that's on him.

The thing is that it really wouldn't require that much budget to have pretty art. Maybe some more for optimization but overall the budget will hopefully go to content.

Nigga the pussification of Samus wasn't even half the issues. I don't have that image detailing a lot of the garbage that made it bad, but he fucking butchered EVERYTHING that made Metroid awesome. He basically just took Super Metroid, added a bunch of shitty Japanese tropes and cliches in as a "story", which in turn forced the gameplay to be completely linear to follow this ridiculous story.

So yes, he destroyed Samus and her character, added a bunch of niggers no one gives a fuck about and had one of the most pathetic stories in recent gaming, but that's not why we hate it. If it had Super Metroid-tier exploration, atmosphere and subtleness, we could have maybe forgiven it and not accuse it of being irredeemable garbage. But no, Sakamoto took a beautiful thing that many loved and wasted and entire team's time and a ton of Nintendo's money to make her into his goddamn waifu and let his 3 year old son write the plot.

Fucking shit, this ain't even a Metroid thread. I have high hopes for Bloodstained. To me it's everything I'd expect it to be right now. Let's hope it keeps improving and headed down the right path.

Yeah, it's just that Samus character was the first point that popped in my head, the shitty lineal corridors and plot were also terrible for sure.

Do you know who else is working on Bloodstained?
>>

Other than the folks listed on the kickstarter page, I have no idea. I wish they'd put some credits in the demo so we could get a feel for how much of the old team came back.
>>

>>343376683
My point was just that Metroid fans tend to throw out Sakamoto's good work after one (admittedly colossally shitty) game a lot quicker. Suffice it to say, I agree with all your points on the game, just, y'know, if he was making a new 2D game that looked like ZM or Fusion, I wouldn't turn my nose up at it.

Didn't mean to do an Other M derail, sorry.
>>
>>343378293
I'm not really sure Sakamoto even knows Metroid too well anymore. When he saw Samus in the gravity suit, he asked why she was purple.
I don't think Iga is that retarded, so we might have a good game here.
>>
>>343378293
If you haven't noticed, Iga tends to get a lot of flack too for his tenure on the series in general. Mostly from Classicvania fans.
>>
I never played Other M because

but man, I'm so curious about how much of a shit fest it is.
>>
>>343377323
I hate how people blame Team Ninja for Other M when it was made clear by an Iwata Asks and various developer interviews that Sakamoto was responsible for pretty much everything shit about the game. He wrote the story, he made them use the sideways wiimote control scheme, he forced the first person missiles and pixel hunts, he chose the bottle ship setting, he forced the linear story driven structure. The only thing Team Ninja can be blamed for is the combat, which wasn't even that bad and could have been worked into something great if they didn't have to use such a retardedly limited control scheme.

Except Team Ninja was responsible for the single biggest shit thing about the game: 3D
>>
>>343379051
I actually enjoyed it. It's not a good game at all thanks to a ton of stupid design decisions but the core gameplay had potential and if you aren't attached to Metroid's lore it's an okay couple of hours.
>>
>>343379158
Iga just wanted to make a game again like he used to.
It was either that, or make nothing but mobile.
>>
>>343379158
>sequel and spin off dreams dashed
The unfortunate thing is that Red Ash is still happening thanks to Fuze, and it seems like Inafune and Deep Silver are both working to force Mighty No. 9 II through despite the game's poor reception and arguable failure.
>>
>>343379204
Elaborate, because that makes zero sense. I seriously doubt they were the ones to decide to make it a 3D game, and the fact that it was 3D was one of the few things about the game that wasn't a problem.

It's blown way out of proportion. It's more of a 3D Metroid than the Primes ever were. It just has some dumb cutscenes so they cry over it.

I liked it eventually but it has a very slow start.
>>
>>343379998
It's a good game, but I think it gets pretty highly overrated here by the "difficulty = good" crowd. It has probably the worst level design of any of the handheld Castlevanias, and the quest system just isn't very fun thanks to the weird drop rates for everything.

My second favorite handheld Metroidvania, third favorite overall. Only SotN and CotM are better IMO. I actually really liked having areas outside of the castle as it reminded me of Simon's Quest, a game apparently no one likes except me.

It feels like the freshest and most interesting out of the DS games. Dawn is a snoozefest that doesn't live up to Aria. Portrait is whatever.

However, the low budget really shows. At only 500,000 it's a bit rushed and unpolished. Level design is often just straight lines.
>>
>>343360467
Unless you plan to do it yourself, don't be so delusional
>>
>>343381295
Portrait is fun and has the best music of the DS Castlevanias.
What sucks of PoR is the character design, it's just awful.

>Will Bloodstained become just as much of a blunder Mighty No. 9 was

No, I had more fun with the 10 minute demo of Bloodstained than I had with the whole of my pirated MN9 copy.

>Did the demo prove otherwise?

Yes, at the VERY least it will still look and play like Castlevania so it can't be that shit.
>>
>>343379158
>sequel confirmed
Wait, when was Bloodstained 2 confirmed?
>>
>>343385284
It wasn't, he's projecting out of his ass. But if they keep the plan of making 5~10M dollaroos games to sale on 30 bucks, I think they can manage to get a few more out there.
God knows I want that
>>
>>343385675
To be clear, Iga did say that given the opportunity, he wants to turn Bloodstained into a full-fledged franchise. If this game does well enough, it will only be the beginning.
>>
>>343385756
Yes, but pretty much everyone says that. And again, I want this to roll a bigger franchise in the future, but so far no official confirmation of a new game in the works.

And while I supported the campaign with all my heart, for the love of god, I hope they don't use crowfunding for the next project.
It already fulfilled the purpose of showing there is interest in the market for a game like this.
>>
>>343385756
Which is another difference between Iga and Inafune. Iga knows you need a solid and successful game before you start building out the franchise. Inafune tried to build the franchise first without the solid game required to establish it.

Or even without a solid game at all.
