Rarest I have is probably some tech demo prototypes, but seeing as I put them online for free it devalued them to basically nothing.
outside of that it's probably a debug version of assassin's creed.

At least as far as price goes easily Metal Warriors. Have an instruction manual with it but no box.

These are all "not for resale" copies which means they were given to stores for use as a demo. They were supposed to be returned to nintendo but some of them managed to make it to the second hand market.
They are pretty rare but there is no reason to own them other than collector value.
>>343351232
Rule of Rose. Played it once. I did enjoy the atmosphere of the game but now it collects dust on my shelf. I don't care much about collecting for rarity though. I want a functional collection, valuing quality over quantity.

Lobo for the Sega Genesis and SNES. Although the Genesis version isn't really that rare, it is certainly uncommon. The SNES version is ultra rare because apparently the people who sold reproduction copies of this game stop selling it a while ago and I guess the rom version of this game has already leaked. Which I am thankful for because now I can play them on emulators for my PC and PSP, instead of dealing with bringing out my SNES to play the game.

>>343353796
>>343353939
to add - when you get discs like this they have a value but it's hard to place what that value is. i paid1000 USDfor these collectively as they included source codes, unreleased ports (like a port of a PC FPS RTS game from 1998 for PS1) so while they have value, the moment i rip any they become worthless in many people's eyes, since they no longer need to get the original disc to have a copy.
I'm willing to destroy my own game collection value just so others have a chance to play, even if i could be making some nice bank
>>343351232

I bought this for about 80 bucks a few years back. Over the years the price double, tripled... Last year it was being sold for about 400-600. I just checked a few days back and there are auctions getting above 1000, it's absolutely ridiculous. This and Wily wars are ny rarest.

I think some guy tried to sell one on pawn stars but it came from Storage Wars. Some guy was trying to act like he knew what he was talking about the entire show is scripted as fuck and completely fake.

Not necessarily a video game, but a game nonetheless. It's a prototype game by Galoob, the makers of the Game Genie. It's called Action Replay Baseball. Evidently it was a prototype never released from development, and only distributed to family members working at the company. Only info I could find anywhere on it was on eBay, from a seller claiming to be Robert Galoob, the brother and co-president to Lewis Galoob, the founder of Galoob toys. He even sent me a photocopy of the instructions in the mail. Pic related is the toy, just a stock pic from one of the eBay listings. Mine is missing the scoreboard and in 'ok' shape I'd say. From what I've gathered, mine is only one of 3 or 4 in known existence. Still functions 100% after a bit of TLC, though still a bit rough. Hope yall enjoyed the little story. I found it at a Goodwill for dirt cheap.

There's some real weird shovelware on the Wii that is pretty rare and strangely expensive.
"My Horse and Me: Riding for Gold" for instance.
Games stopped being rare because gaming got popular and they now get produced in massive numbers. Digital availability also takes some of the value out of it.
People are trying to bring it back though. There are labels such as Limited Run Games that make limited physical releases, but so far they've mostly only put out garbage. The most interesting title so far has been Octodad.
Does anyone know how rare a boxed copy of Dracula X is? The box is in crappy shape but it's still together.

I stumbled across a copy of that at Gamestop a while ago, where they still had pre-owned PS1 games. The price was super low, because they evenly priced all PS1 games the same in an effort to get rid of it. What a steal that was.

Hey, does anyone else end up buying modern JRPGs out of habit, because they might end up being the next super rare game that is hard to come by years from now, if it wasn't for the fact that games are produced at such massive numbers these days, that there really is no reason to do so?
I can't believe I bought this garbage for PS4 in the hopes that it might be good.
>only buy games I like
>they're just shitty games I played as a kid
lucky me I guess?
>>343362492
give me your copy of shining holy ark I have a 3D dungeon fetish
>>343362827
There's one near me and they sell copies of Tetris for like £15
why do people grossly overestimate video game value?
>>343362408
>mfw I sold my copy of MMX3 back in 2000 for like $25
I thought that was a lot for an SNES game at the time
>>343351232
this
i will never find anything more rare
Is Ghost Babel rare?
>>343363038
It's gotten completely out of hand, since retro gaming became a popular hobby. One of these days the curve HAS to break though. Kids will start feeling about NES games, the same way anyone under 40 feel about Atari games, and they'll get super cheap again.
probably Gotcha Force
thank god I started collecting GCN games before they became expensive.I only paid $5 for it
I have a sealed copy of Devil's Third.
It dropped in value almost a month later though, and I'm not sure why. Maybe because the game itself was lousy?
>>343363083
It was confirmed by 2000 that X3 had been released in limited quantity.
You fucked up, anon
>>343351232
Rare as in hard to find: this McDonald's Yu-Gi-Oh CD gamelol
Rare as in old: Super Mario World for the SNES
>>343363391
>thank god I started collecting GCN games before they became expensive
Same here. Up to about 160 titles now, missing a few key ones but happy with it as is.
Sorry for shity cam quality

>>343363458
whoops forgot the pic
>>343363391
I got a copy for about $15 when gamecube games were going out, same for cubivore and fire emblem.
>>343361393
Cool I thought it might be collectible one day and kept it with my other shit that I suspect may be rare.
>>343363391
Only have a handful myself. I don't really care about Nintendo's own games, but there was a couple I wanted to get a hold when Gamestop was getting rid of their stock.
Baten Kaitos and Odama is probably the rarest two I have.
2/3
>>343362469
What number is yours? I have #136. I also have the other Gaijin Works releases. I have #838 for COH2G and #1970 for COH2.
>>343362492
I have most of those.
>>343363518
>SMRPG, CT, FFIII
the holy trinity of overrated jrpgs
>>343351232
Since i dont have any real rares i would say Bare Knuckle 3 (the japanese version of SoR).
I am kind of glad they sold the original uncensored version here in EU back then. Even if i couldnt understand half of the story due to jap text.
>>343363546
They're not games, you fucking idiot.
>>343351232
An early early PSX copy of the Discworld game. Im talking the old style CD cases, before they moved to the standard jewel cases.
Have others, but i think thats my most favorite rare game. As it doubles down with having almost no one knows it even exists.
>>343351232
if I told you it wouldn't be rare
I have sealed copies of
>Cubivore x 1
>Earthbound x 2
>Chrono Trigger x 2
>Link to the Past x 3
>Mega Man X3 x 1
>Rule of Rose x 1
>Fire Emblem: Rekka no Ken x 1
>Wind Waker x 1
>Melee x 2
Last two aren't really rare but finding sealed copies is pretty difficult. I also have a bunch of new Gamecube and SNES controllers which is neat.
>>343355146
>Movie one Hermione
So many people should be in prison
>>343363140
You post that all the time. I have a NFR Stunt Race FX that is most likely equally as rare.
>>343354330
limited print
something in late PS2 life is like eternal poison or devil summoner 2, those were like 2009-10
>>343363401
There was a reprint.
>>343351232
sealed first edition copy of Pier Solar on the Genesis that i got straight from the developers
special edition of SMT IF... on the PS1 (comes wih a bunch of extra stuff)
just about every jrpg on the PS1 including working design and atlus published titles.
I have a copy of Xenoblade on Wii with the instruction manuals and i think i still have the club nintendo code it came with
>>343363787
I did not realize that they were numbered. I have #182.
My COH2 is #22999 (or maybe that is #2999?) and 2G is #248
Probably the rarest game I own next to the rarest system I own :-)
Either this or FE PoR. Man, you guys have some rare shit.

>>343364410
COH2 is 2999. The first 2 is part of "COH2". That's close to the end of the run as there were only around 3200 or so.
>>343364652
>people who think anything square enix released is 'rare'
it gets old really fast. just because a title is old/retro and hailed as 'good' generally doesn't mean its rare. Like Earthbound or FF6

Once collectors start dropping dead from diabetes and fat poisioning, games will flood the market and pop the bubble

>>343351232
Not a video game, but one of my favourite music artists only made 20 copies of an album, sold it at a small event, it sold out in half an hour, and I own a copy. Feels so fucking good. It'll never be uploaded or resold anywhere so I'm really glad I have it.

It's such a shame to see games vanish because they are digital only and some weird licensing issues get in the way. Outrun Online Arcade, Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and others are just GONE from XBLA and PSN because of licensing bullshit.
Collecting vidya is a big fucking waste of time. I'd rather collect mtg or yugioh cards
Does anyone have that shitty game, Chase the Chuck Wagon?
i have a PS4 that has PT still installed
is that rare?
>>343353472
You got fucking reamed.

And yet most Nipshits have jumped to mobile where there's nothing but digital.
>>343365796
I agree with this, at the least the artist should sell digital copies. I can understand limited physical but its shitty to keep people from listening to your work.
Pocky and Rocky SNES and Monster In My Pocket x2 (complete) NES and tons of other rare retro games.
I also own a lot of rare limited editions and CE's.
I only have digital shit but does this count?
>>343365796
Kanye launched an album that was only available on his weird spotify homebrew equivalent. Then he took it down because he decided to change a track, but some people still have the original version. Digital music doesn't really count as rare, I suppose.

NES Final Fantasy
Lunar 2
Sega Saturn and some vidya
Not really rare per say but I have a copy of Rocky Balboa for PSP which I assume didn't sell very well
>>343367369
Because the people who have it (like me) don't want to sell it. Only 30,000 copies were made for NA, don't know about PAL, so it's legitimately rare. It's also a top 10 all time rpg.
>>343367203
Yeah, it's a pretty sweet collectors edition. It's a shame since Working Designs was always god-tier when it came to that.
>>343367109

>>343362858
any modern day jrpgs are shit.
if you want to get a game that might be rare in the future, go for something near the end of a system cycle that is fairly niche. That's whats shown to be more likely to be 'rare' in the future due to lack of sales. Sadly it seems like most of these games are going the way of physical release only.
Other than that, keep an eye out for real limited editions like Persona 4 golden solid gold edition (5k only printed if i remember right?). Things like the p5 SE are going to be easy to come by, desu, considering its not limited.
Also could look into developers who are working on retro consoles (like Watermelon)
>>343351232
Most expensive game I have is definitely Earthbound.
Rarest game I own, probably Trouble Shooter CIB

Show me something that wasn't mass produced
>>343367619
Get lucky is all I can say :/, I got mine when it was "only" $250, and it's only gone up. Saturn emulation is getting better thankfully so I hope everyone at some point gets a chance to play it, because it sucks that a game this good is that damn expensive.

LSD for the PlayStation
Not particularly rare, but also a worthwhile import: Pepsiman.
>>343367841
Could be a misprint or something.
Don't really have much considered "rare" as I only collect games I actually like.
Off the top of my head,
>SFC
Tales of Phantasia (May not be rare but means a lot to me
>SNES
Earthbound, (Not "rare" I know)
>N64
Jet force Gemini, Mischief makers
>GCN
Eternal Darkness, Skies of Arcadia, Tales of Symphonia, Baiten Kaitos, Custom Robo
>Wii
Pandora's Tower, Rodea the Sky Soldier
>Wii-U
Bayonetta (Apparently worth $80 now)
>GBA
Advance Wars, Summon night Swordcraft Story, Boktai,
>DS
Sands of Destruction, Hotel Dusk/Last Window, Lost Magic
>3DS
Rhythm Thief (USA not PAL) Shifting Worlds
>PS2
Yakuza 2, Okage: Shadow king, Ar Tonelico 1/2, Steambot Chronicles, Dark Cloud 2, Tales of Rebirth (J)
>PS3
Nothing really of note.
More uncommon then Rare. Don't really own much of value,.

I figured it out http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/924199-star-ocean-3-till-the-end-of-time/images/158154
Original run of the game was Enix, and was JP only
then Directors cuts came out after the merger, and that was the version released world wide
weird thing is though I still cant find any of the enix original copies for sale, how rare is this version?
Pokemon Box
I got a copy of it on vacation in NYC years ago, and it was actually pretty useful.
My brother and I put a ton of our Pokemon on one of our spare memory cards, and later on we transferred them back to send them to X/Y and Pokemon Bank.
>>343367369
>Why is Panzer Dragoon $300 if everyone has it
According to ebay today, it's trending around $500 now.
As for why everyone has it, it's because (as much as some of us hate this place) /v/ still has people who care about video games, even if a lot of us are cynical now. This place and /vr/ are the only places I ever see people show off such rare games in mass.
>>343367474
>Because the people who have it (like me) don't want to sell it. Only 30,000 copies were made for NA
Actually the official number is fewer than 20,000 copies. Back when I first investigated the number years ago, people thought it was as low as 12,000. So somewhere between 12k and 20k.
That is fucking NOTHING for a whole country. Also the master code was lost, so it can't be reprinted ever again, not even for other (newer) consoles, so it isn't going to be popping up on XBL or PSN. Everyone knows this, so no one is waiting for it to show up elsewhere for a cheaper price. At best it might be emulatable; but in that case most people who want it will still never own it.
>That SNES fire sale when Block Buster and Video Update stopped carrying SNES games
>Lufia 1 + 2
>Megaman X3

>>343351232
You have no idea how lucky i was when I found this, it was at a gamestop that was an hour away from my house and it was SEALED IN which means no one even opened the case and it had the manual still inside whereas people sell this on ebay for hundreds of dollars.
Kirby Air Ride
>>343368446
What's a rolling backpack? Like luggage? I actually never carried a backpack to school like ever.
It's just a room in my house that I claimed as a retro room. It's pretty comfy. And, I live with my boyfriend so virginity isn't much of an issue.
I have no idea whats rare, but I think I probably one or two games worth something, because of the amount I have
Zelda 1, 2, OoT, MM & Wind Waker demo disk for GCN.
I have a sealed copy of Zone of the Enders: The Fist of Mars.
Game isn't exactly difficult to find, but most unsealed games are usually pretty valuable.
Wish I kept some of my older games looking at this topic. I've moved houses so many fucking times though as a kid, things were just bound to get lost.
>>343368474
Wow! That's even less than I thought, it really shows how dead the saturn really was in the west. I don't see how the damn source code got lost, the same thing happened to house of the dead as well.
>>343351232
Hmm. Bangai-O for Dreamcast maybe? Or F-Zero X. I don't have rare games.
I've got the Super Mario Bros that also includes Duck Hunt. I paid $30 for it

is the American Steel case version rare too?
>>343369392
Some did, mostly earlier ones. I know OoT did.
>>343368889
That's what I mean by "I was lucky when I found it", the game is worth 40 dollars but it's rare to actually find it in stores.
Rule of Rose
Haunting Ground
Fatal Frame 1 - 3
Ibara with mini strategy guide
Mushihime Sama Limited Edition
Dodonpachi Saidaioji Super LImited Edition
Sengoku Blade 1 & 2
Buffy GBA in box
Probably this. Not really super rare but its not any digital store.
>>343351232
probably king's field not really rare but i don't really collect games based on rarity
>>343369264
How much did it cost you? just curiosity.
Tales of Legendia Korean Edition?
>>343368865
It's got a pretty good story, and is pretty dark for an E-rated game.
However the gameplay is ass. The later missions are a total chore because you have to fight 15 enemies and they take forever to take all their turns.
Still, a great world builder for ZoE. Doubly so if you saw the anime
>>343369676
>korean
why?
>>343369665
idk, like $30 back in ~2002
>>343369730
why what?
>>343369676
Legendianon, is that you?
>>343356206
Probably the coolest post in this thread. Thanks for the story, Anon.
chrono trigger with box which is in rough condition, got it for like $40 on ebay 5 or so years ago
>>343369786
Lucky, you have a fine piece right there anon.
>>343369893
you caught me.
>>343358104
What's with the Gran Autismo car?
I have Dragonball Z Infinite World.
Not sure if it's all that rare, but it was the last PS2 Dragonball title. Plus it came out in 2008
Kof 2002/03, kof 98UM,
>>343351232
A ps3 game
Pokémon HeartGold
Body Harvest for the N64
I've never seen anyone mention this which is odd since it could be seen as a prototype for what later became the GTA series iirc
Saturn stuff
1/2
I have Koudelka, Shadow Hearts, The Dark Spire, Botkai 1&2, Not for Resale FE: The Sacred Stones, Sands of Destruction, Infinite Space and Radiant Historia just to name a few. I also have a sealed Indigo Gameboy Advance in a protective case and a sealed copy of The Legacy of Goku. Feels great, man.
Probably this and Tomba 2.
>>343353758
Is the harry Potter GB color game rare?
>>343370014
Its kind of obvious Nobody else would own a korean copy of legendia. We have to stop meeting like this.
One day when I have enough money to toss around I essentially want to do the same but with Phantasia. I managed to get the 20th aniv sound box and I own SFC, Repro GBA and PSX copies of the game, as well as a bunch of thegascha figs, but sadly there isnt too much out there. I got a local craft store to commission a fullscale foamcore print of the SFC boxart for my wall though, so that'll look awesome
I'd kill for a fullscale Dhaos fig, but sadly that is something that may never exist.
>>343370467
I used to have that.
And MML64, Mischief Makers, Diddy Kong Racing (with the VHS it came with), Hybrid Heaven, and Pokémon Red and Yellow. I think those were my rarest.
Also some early PS2 shit like Eve of Extinction.
Lost it all, though.
Pristine copy of cubivore. I don't know if it's valuble, but I've never seen another copy in the same condition.
Pristine copies of silent hill 2 and 3.
I miss creative crazy game manuals like cubivores.
>>343369893
Is it any good?
2/2
Nothing too expensive sadly
>>343370727
>kind of obvious
very true. ahahah we usually meet in these types of threads. but it's refreshing to talk to someone familiar.
that would be freaking sweet, anon. do you have a picture of your current phantasia collection? yeah, i can't really think of phantasia merch at the moment. do you own the animation?
>dhaos fig
that would be amazing. i'm still waiting for a Senel or Chloe figure.
>>343371004
Legendia? I'm pretty biased, but i'll try to tone it down. If you've played a Tales game after Symphonia then it feels like step back. the battle system is very basic, but feels and plays more like a brawler. the soundtrack is probably the best thing you'll ever hear and the characters are very likeable. it has some faults though. the second half of the game loses voice acting (something about money issues and they didn't think the character quests were part of the main game), has random battles, the graphics are subpar, etc; but if you play it for what it is, it's a damn charming experience.
>>343371145
I unfortunately do not as my camera crapped out recently. But I'll make sure to take some good pics for next time.
I do not, but I've watched it several times, I should look in to getting it and Symphonia's though.
I got to meet Patrick Seitz once and told him how much I liked his voice for Dhaos in the Dub and he thought it was really neat, So that was an experience in of itself
>>343371810
Please do! I look forward to it.
Unfortunately I think the DVD's are fucking expensive now (hopefully I'm wrong).
That's pretty fucking awesome. I wish I could meet some of the cast members for Legendia, but I think I missed the boat and Canada doesn't seem like the right place anyway.
Although, I did get this which was a nice gesture itself.
>>343365853
>Go on PSN to get that fun Scott Pilgrim beat em up to play with my brother like we used to before I moved
>Turns out they took it down due to licensing issues over a year ago
Fuck digital only releases.
>No physical release ever
>>343364556
No repro, it's the real deal, Euro version.
Not vidya game but have one of these, 7" promo vinyl for Duelin Firemen, the celebrated unreleased game for 3do. I actually had two copies, but gave one to the friend who turned me onto the absurdity that is DF years ago. Supposed run of 500 records. Each one cost me about 5 bucks on ebay and I havent seen any in the wild since. I check every couple of months.
Doubly valuable to me because one of the two tracks is by Boredoms, one of my favorite bands.

>>343362012
funny that Gundam Wing would pop up on /v/ as i'm watching it...
>>343351232
Gamecube component cables. Does that count?
Nice thread /v/. I got a bunch of stuff for a bunch of consoles, even some NTSC-US imports. But I stopped buying retro a few years ago, Ebay is just full of retarded prices nowadays. Dunno what's the rarest PAL game I have (probably Snatcher or Castlevania Legends), but talking about imports I have Tales of Destiny, Eternia, both Lunar PS1 Collector editions, hack GU Special Edition...
>>343366357
>leaning Moonspeak to play weeb games
>gain some dignity
I don't own rare vidya, but I own rare spider plush.
>>343370706
I saw it in a bin for $5.00. It's really not rare at all.
>>343353521
Never realized that was an ATLUS game
How much is this thing worth? I used to buy rare games for 10-30€ years ago when I still collected old games, but did resellers made this a rich hobby during the last few years? I'm seriously considering selling a bunch of stuff I have to make some dosh.
>>343375156
like 200-300? complete
>>343364445
A physical copy of Lovely Sweet Dream?my nigga
>not having 32 games in one
And the Yoshis island seemed to be a beta or a clone even thoI bought it on am official retailer. Thing was bugged on some parts and ultimately the saves got "corrupted" one by one deleting by themselves before the last 3 levels. Thankfully a friend lend me his copy to finish it but it was really dissapointing.
Also pretty sure Mario Tennis isnt that rare but it and DK country were transparent wih looks neat.
>>343375310
Aw dude I want that boxed copy of Manhunt 1 so bad. :(
I don't have many "rare" games, these are probably the rarest (or most expensive) I own.
>>343375619
>wild arms F
I really need to get this one day.
>>343354086
I have that, it's pretty sweet.
One of these things is not like the others, one of these things doesn't belong.
>>343375156
Damn, my copy is complete. I even remember getting a Burning Rangers completely new for like 20€ not that many years ago, I bet that's worth much more than it used to.
>>343375484
It was like $30 on ebay one day a couple of years ago. They turn up every now and then in relatively good condition.
>>343351232
Boxed, relatively mint condition collectors edition of TES: Daggerfall.
Box is holographic. Pretty baller. Totally useless unless you run dosbox.
>>343375807

the old Zelda ports that came with my GC. Last I checked that thing is worth like 100 bucks
>>343375419
>>343375568
Anon you're kidding right? That Yoshi's Island 3 is the most obvious bootlegg I've ever seen.
megaman x3 is apparently rare
I have a copy of Virtual On for the dreamcast somewhere, but me and my brother put so many fucking hours on it it probably wasn't worth much, considering how well we treated our games.
>>343351232
Ufouria the saga I guess
>>343351232
Apparently Dark Spire: Soundtrack Edition.
I bought that shit for like $5 back in the day and the non-soundtrack edition is getting sold around $130 on eBay. Literally how/why?
>>343351232
My two copies of Megaman 7 come to mind, since they're like $120 a pop the last I looked.
I also have a copy of Chrono Trigger, but never looked into current prices. Some nights I contemplate selling off these older games, due to fears of money problems. Then I just keep trying to think ahead to a point in life where things will be better, and I'll be able to finally buy a new SNES and enjoy all my old carts once more.
Rarest games I have is all three dot hack GU's with their manuals and cases in the best condition.
Funny thing is I was in a thread like this months ago and found two anons willing to pay for them. I just couldn't find a way to do it that didn't involve some wonky shit with ebay or something.
>>343377621
MM7 for $120
sheeeit i have a copy of that
>mom gives me MM7 instead of X2
Titanfall
>>343351232
Either this...
>>343377898
Or these.
>>343377124
X3 has been rare since forever, as others anons pointed out about the limited printing. Capcom has several games in smaller prints that almost rival Atlus during that point in time.
See also:
Megaman 7
Demon's Crest
Megaman V (Game Boy)
And likely another one or two.
>>343372541
Last I heard, Gamestop still sells digital codes for it, which bypasses the removal from the store.
This piece of leaking shit right here. Bought it in a garage sale when I was 10 for 2 buckaroos. Last I heard it was selling at 300$CA but I could be wrong. Either way it's a shit game and I'm keeping it in my boxe of NES games anyway.
>>343378192
i have X3 and 7
what is a legit site that i can find value of them?
>>343368656
r u hot
dont care if grill or not
>>343378318
Not the one you're replying to, but I found this website to be well equipped sales-wise and the prices are pretty spot on so far
http://www.lukiegames.com/
>>343379114
>http://www.lukiegames.com/
>$287 for x3
SHEEEEEEEEEEEAT
>>343379028
I don't think so and I'm a dude.
>>343379178
Though I can't recommend to buy from them because I haven't done so myself, but their prices are pretty much what's on the market it seems. I've tested a couple of them.
My Zombie nation copy is 300$ on their website
>>343378224
And Azure dream for PS1 is a better bet on their website (it goes to up to 200$ on ebay because everyone sell sealed copies, I just wanna game dammit)
>>343377723
You do know that X 2 is around the $100 range now also right?
>>343379178
Just double-looked. I'm starting to think the website is in Canadian buckaroos, since Megaman 7 is 250$ on it, compared to peoples saying 120-150 in this here thread.
