PC or PS version are both fine. Make sure to name your MC "Zack" it'll make sense later.

PS version
Being over 14 in 97
I played the digital version on PS3 and it was fine.
Apparently the PC version has remastered textures, and it looks pretty nice. If you have a PS3 controller to plug in I'd say go for this one. Without a controller, while the game is certainly playable on keyboard, depending on how much you care about getting '*"THE ORIGINAL EXPERIENCE'*" you might want to go with PS or whatever at least lets you use a controller.
I played the Steam version some months ago and it was flawless
Emulate
Also name Red XIII Nanaki

it's just the PC version. I think the really clean low-poly models look a little weird on the low-res hand-painted backgrounds. But it plays fine and it is the original game, on PC.

PS1 experience is the tightest
with a big ass TV

Actually he has a point. I forgot to mention the music in FFVII is almost all midi. So it will sound a tiny bit different on a computer. Potentially very different.
PS1 is the only way to get the original experience.
pc version with the classic mode or whatever it's called turned on
original pc version with the midi synthesizers and soundtrack
That one the PS4's PSN store is just a port of the PC version right?

Get a PS1 and a CRT. Seriously, that's the definitive way to experience Final Fantasy VII.
The PC midi music is horrible, but you can enable the original music the steam version of it and mod it into the old PC version.
