Why the hell are mobile and web browser games so popular in Japan? They're all skinner boxes with shallow gameplay, why do people play them? And why are there so damn many of them?
All they do is work all the time and be sexually frustrated. Mobile shit games satisfy both of those.
Guess which platform is the most prevalent. These games can be played on your way to work/school/whatever as they don't require you to commit a lot of time, and can be stopped at any time. Basically a time killer.
I somewhat enjoyed that runner Sonic mobile game

Because a lot of Japanese people use public transport so it's an easy way of having something to play on that isn't a handheld.

Because Japan has mastered the art of addictive cellphone game.

>And why are there so damn many of them?
They have to make several dozens variations of the same game to try to appeal to different people. which is why there are games that are reskins of other games.

Because some are really well done.
I'm hooked on Shinobi Nightmares and 消滅都市

She isn't even the best resident of the Scarlet manor
this may be hard for v to handstand, but not all people play games just for direct gameplay. for instance, I play fate grand order even though the gameplay is garbage 99% of the time. some challenge quests are actually difficult enough to incorporate a semblace of strategy, but I primarily play for the story. in that department, fgo is extremely funny and a great way for tm to make new servants without writing an overly complex story to incorporate them. also its not that much of a skinner box. I got four 5* servants playing completely for free for just 4 months. I play maybe 20 mins a day on the train and the 5* rate is only 1%. in other words, they give you a shitload of chances. they know people play for the story, so they throw chances at you like theyre pennies.

Yeah isn't that China's role?
Better question: what can we do to stop it?

You dont just sit back and let it overwhelm you.
They're popular worldwide because dipfucks who don't care / no longer care about videogames eat them up. Watch the South Park episode.
>inb4 South Park
Hit the nail on the head regardless. In Japan they also have aspects like collecting girls or pandering to military otaku but that's about the only real difference.
The upside is that makes some people forget about Touhou for a while, which is refreshing (not sure why you're posting these images as if 2hu is that much on the polar opposite scale of things; hardly the proudest thing Japan has ever made, that), but you can't help but be cynic when it all boils down to "jumping from a garbage can to a dumpster".

Contrary to what you might think, Japan too has young people. Younger generation likes to play games on the phone. That's really it.
