These are yokai watch tier designs and names. My biggest gripes are the grandpa dragon, gay fish, and pikachu ripoff.
Grandpa Dragon COULD of been an awesome design if they just followed a more oriental design, but for the sake of "damp" it looks very hanging, and just overall too round of a design. Gay fish is just bad, and pikachu rip off doesn't need to exist. It's also lazy. Simple shape with very plain boring colors.
The others are acceptable. The only one that's actually an alright design is Tapu Koko and to some degree Vikavolt.

If anyone wants a challenge out of Pokemon romhacks fill that niche nicely but the games have never been challenging to anyone with half a brain. When I was 8 the most challenging thing in Pokemon was the god awful EXP distribution leading to having to grind if I wanted my "dream team" back then and I sure as shit don't count grinding as difficulty or am autistic enough to consider it "bonding".
I'm in my mid 20's and I haven't bought a game since gen 3 but I've played all of them and still manage to enjoy them.

Some of these are cool, but to me the claim that "new pokemon are cutesy digimon" is finally definitely true.

Pokemon now sucks, it sucked as much when we were kids but since we were kids we were able to look past all the flaws. Instead of improving they kept the same fucking formula for 20 years. Most of us went past it or play one pokemon game once every blue moon just to check a little if things changed. Some others didn't.

Gotta say tis is the strongest explanation. Realistic proportioning is a bitch to implement for some piece of plastic junk a kid will trot about for five seconds and then throw away. You don't put works of art in McDonald's happy meals, you put something with a lot of immediate superficial appeal that costs nothing, and screw lasting value.
What I noticed looking at old pokemon in the new 3D handhelds vs newer designs is the dramatic difference in posture. Even new pokemon that don't look that cartoony like Sawsbuck look like fucking tables, they way they stand compared to a comparatively simple old pokemon like Ponyta. This is another cheat - a cartoony design with odd posture isn't glaring like a realistic design stood wonkily, and so it makes both the 3D designer's jobs easier as well as the toymakers.
I wish Nintendo had an incentive other than... this. If it didn't take these cost-cutting measures, Pokemon would be buried under cheaper and more marketable knock-offs like Yokai Watch. We're in a real Moloch here.

Fuck them. There are way too many legendaries, they fuck up the story with their bullshit and in general they suck. You can't even use them at all because they are banned everywhere, so you just get them and put them in a box. Instead of legendaries have pokemon which are harder to catch or require specific shit. The game is about catching pokes right? Make up some stuff beyond hitting them and throwing pokeballs at them.
4-Natures and trainning
Raising every pokemon should be possible, maybe not competitive in PVP but you have stuff like catching a massive amount of X to find the one with the good nature. That's shit imo.
5-PVP
You know the factory stuff from battle frontier? Implement that online. So long for the fucking minmax bullshit, now you play with tactics and RNG. You can keep a constructed team too if you want, but give us the option of something like this.
