yoo, what do ya guys think of it?
>>
Its alrighty, but hearing generic horror ambient music feels wierd, the original soundtrack added that unique feel of funky cyberpunk adventure.
>>
>>343281002
Doesn't seem to be much of a horror, runs like shit, controls are floaty as hell. Sure seems like pre-alpha, basically.

My only real gripe is the soundtrack, not saying that the original soundtrack was perfect or requisite at all, but I feel like some kind of Electronic themes would be a much better fit

Orchestral music just seems too 'organic' I guess

I'm kind of a baby when it comes to games with spooky atmospheres, is SS thick with NOPE material or is it more like Quake where it's got the style and atmosphere but doesn't try to intentionally spook you out? I should get around to playing it some time.

There's nothing wrong with the graphics (I think it looks nicer than SS2), it's the interface and controls that are shit. Turning it into a real first person shooter is a great idea.
>>
>>343284485
It's spooky in the sense that you're alone on a derelict space station that's been overrun with mutant zombies and robots, and it's very stressful in general with constant ambushes and those "man i just know there's gonna be some shit down there" moments, but it doesn't really go out of its way to scare you.

only people this remake appeals to are bioshock fans who heard about how much they should like sysem shock and how its their favorite horror series because theyre horror games
>>
>>343285634

>>
The original System Shock UI is a part of experience, even though it's clunky, it definitely feels cyberpunky. The first time I beat it without mouselook and it felt like I was playing a space sim or something. The second time I beat it with mouselook and it was totally comfortable to me, it was more like SS2 or Arx Fatalis kind of thing which I really like in games. I was pretty excited for the remake until they announced a Kikestarter for it, now I'm a lot more cautious. I can't run the demo because I don't have a DX11 card, but from what I've seen on videos, it looks really good. I just feel like they're shoving that horror vibe into it which wasn't really a thing till SS2. If I were to make a movie comparison, SS1 would be Die Hard and SS2 would be Alien, in regards to the general feel. You're not really supposed to feel like a helpless bitch in any of those games, since in 1 you're a badass hacker who actually created SHODAN and got enhanced with a military grade cyber rig for it. It's like a more reserved, cyberpunky Doom.

Reminder not to buy Enhanced Edition, as System Shock Portable is the same thing and was free for years before the EE cash-in.

It feels kinda soulless to be honest.

I can easily see them trimming away the clunky mess of the original to make something that looks a whole lot better, but in doing so lose the stuff that made the game interesting.

Turning it into a standard FPS would just be missing the point.

I'm considering to pledge 150€ to get dev forum access to convince them to keep the point and click elements. At least for the inventory and weapon settings like SS2.

You have zero clue what point and click stands for.
Inventory already works exactly like in ss2, it's just bare bones and lack proper textures.
Weapon settings are also already in the game, beam spark has 4 firing modes (although feels like just two). I assume you just want to change modes with hud button rather than key bind.
>>
>>343286637
This sounds pretty damn good desu familia. Isn't it just an extra thing though and not the official soundtrack?
>>
>>343287003
>Inventory already works exactly like in ss2, it's just bare bones and lack proper textures.
No it doesn't, you fucking mongoloid. You can't drag items from and to the game world, because the inventory takes up the entire fucking screen. You also can't toggle weapon settings on the hud anymore.
>>
>>343287003
>I assume you just want to change modes with hud button rather than key bind.
Exactly. It's what makes SS1 and 2 comfy as fuck. It's also delightfully unique. Never seen that in any other game.
>>
It's not that the graphics are the greatest thing ever, but it looks really appealing. Must be the colors or something.
>>
>>343287003
you know he means having the mouse seperate from the camera controls s click and drag stuff in the enviroment to interact with it including the hud sections
it's far more immersive for the player than "look at thing and press E"
>>
>>343287152
>You can't drag items to the game world
Yes you can, you fucking mongoloid

What's the deal with Enhanced Edition? I heard there was a portable version that supported widescreen and mouselook and all that, but was taken down when new publishers got their hands on the IP.

Is Enhanced Edition basically that, or do I need to try and find the old abandonware version?

>>
>>343287447
>System Shock can now be purchased at GOG (and Steam), as result, SSP cannot be distributed in its original form (including copyrighted game data). SSP has been converted into SSPtool - a simple installer that will create a copy of SSP on your hard drive as long as you provide it with your own original game data (CD, or GOG classic edition). The resulting SSP install is identical to what has been available before the original full download had to be removed (SSP 1.2.3).

So yeah, basically EE is just SSP being sold after they got the rights.

>>
>>343287447
heres the deal with enhanced
>ss1 has been abandonware forever and modders freely distribute the game along with dosbox and mods in a package called "portable"
there is also a seperate project called SHLink to get ss1 working natively on windows
>nightdive acquire the rights to ss1
>modders take down portable at the request of nightdive
>nightdive work with modders and SHLINK guy to release EE which is just SHLINK + most of the mods that portable had
the old mods are still available as well as legacy versions of SHLINK so i don't know why some people get so upset about this, they could have just dumped it on steam with dosbox and called it a day...
>>
>>343287648
If you drop and item it always spawn from the same location and not where so mouse is (like it did in the original). Also if you allow the player to decouple the view from the cursor, you can aim and shoot while browsing your inventory.

Not sure, but all models are brand new since they're 3d
>>
>>343281002
Didn't play the demo yet but it looks fucking great. Looks pretty close to a 1:1 replication aside from modernized controls, which is exactly what I want from this.

SS1 was better than SS2, so I'm looking forward to it.

It will happen to every game series that you hold dear eventually.

Can't wait till they make an fps reimagining of Planescape.
>>
>>343285142
No it's shit
Maybe it was almost decent 22 years ago, but the times, they are a-changin'

If done by a competent dev, that could be awesome.

I dislike the way they're making it like Shock 2 instead of the original

It sounded pretty goofy, though.

It's the best one though

I was hoping there would be more time before System Shock got this treatment.

Oh well, maybe in another 2 decades.

I backed it, although I fully expect it to suck

Best control scheme for SS2 lads?
>>
Got 7 fps on menu. Put resolution to 800x600 and I got 17. Played through it. Bugged inventory, grenades don't work (or should they be thrown like in the original, or am I missing something)?, obviously shit optimization. Alien Isolation runs on 45 fps 1366x768.

Seemed ok. Slower paced than original, which is nice for a change. And nice to see some color as well, not brown and mud all the time.

No need to get angry, maybe go to bed and have a rest you're clearly sleep deprived and rambling like an insane person.

I'm really interested in the concept of this but they want to bloat it with crafting mechanics and other unnecessary shit that wasn't in the original, which I'm not okay with.

>>
>>343313680
ss1 isn't complicated, you are just an idiot
>>
>>343312997
I'm normally against streamlining and what not....but System Shock's UI and controls have aged like milk. Enhanced edition improves it somewhat, but is still pretty clunky. Theres a reason why System Shock 2 moved with the times in this regard.
>>
>>343314329
Them redoing the UI I can understand. It's stuff like rewriting the story that leaves me puzzled.
>>
>>343281002
Nothing wrong with Unity3D when it is used correctly, but using it to make a graphically intensive first-person game is not the correct way to use it.

Too bad.
>>
>>343315357
would be curious to see this made in CryEngine but I think the game looks fine right now and I think it'll only improve I've not got much exp in unity maybe it'll be shit, runs fine on my Xeon/GTX970 combo
>>
I hope they reach the 1.7m goal. Otherwise it'll be too watered down.
