They're still sort of relevant, but they fucked up this gen with the fucking stupid gamepad/tablet gimmick. If it weren't for that, the Wii U would be a LOT cheaper to make and sell, therefore it would've been more successful as a much cheaper alternative to PS4/Xbone. Not to mention censorship/shit localizations and them being the only company to still be region-locking their shit. The only thing good about it is that they don't charge you a subscription fee for online multiplayer.

They haven't given a shit about having good hardware since the Gamecube. Their business model seems to rely on making a profit from the offset and then making even more money from the 1st parties. It seems to be self-sustaining but it disappoints a lot of people that play games. Some of their first party titles are way better than what appears on the other consoles but the console ends up gather dust for long periods of time which leads to people buying less software and further discouraging 3rd party titles.

Hell, Nintendo's failure has even affected games NOT on their system. For example, FFVII:Re is episodic because Square though consoles were crashing again after seeing Wii U do so "wonderful".
