He used a gun, sega was worried people would copy him so it was changed to a cork gun but they still scrapped him because how the fuck is a cork gun suppose to make him a threat to anybody? They also didn't like having flesh and blood enemies back then because it they worried it would make Sonic look like a mass murderer speeding through levels and cutting opening living beings so easily.
Bean the dynamite was also scrapped because bombs and Bark the polar bear was scrapped just because nobody liked him.
As for Honey, she was just suppose to be a cameo of a virtual fighter character sonicized but she got an indie fanbase and eventually they made her a character in the comics. that little flash step ability and her being a clothing line heiress are all comic original. Amy's dress is one of her clothing line as well.

The games really need to take a page from the comics and give Eggman some human and anthro commanders. You know that there would be people who would side with Eggman for power, glory, riches, and lust for conquest and pain.

Let's talk age and time-lapsing, /v/. As of generations we know sonic is one year older, 16 If we're to go off of his previously listed age. The long lapse of time that passes between sonic 1 and generations however is questionable, I think my favorite note to point out is that in Adventure Amy talks about how it's been a long time since she's been around sonic, she also talks about it as if they hung out outside of CD, yet nowhere in the other main series games do we see her, it's almost like a lot happened between 3&K and Adventure. If we're to believe this, then her age and appeared change makes so much sense, but if we're going off of that then 4 years have passed, taking this into account Sonic would be 19, making his generations birthday line up perfectly with his actual 20th birthday. But by that standard, tails would have to be 13 by now

They just realized the comic wouldn't sell if Sonic made a joke out of eggman like he does in the games thus Eggman can be a threat but not a long lasting one think of it as constant back in and forth. Before the unleashed arc started the freedom fighters didn't have any gaia keys, Sonic was feral and attacking his friends, Breeze had an emerald they needed so they were forced to dance to her tune and the Master Emerald was in pieces.
As of now, they've got all the Gaia Keys and Chaos emeralds and most of the Master Emerald shards but Eggman has complete control over Eggmanland, a full arsenal of Egg bosses including the recently recruited Wendy Witchcart after her failed plan of revenge on him, His Egg Dragoon is coming along nicely and G.U.N's major unit, Team Dark has been dropped into the Sol dimension AND Silver, part of the newly formed Team Psy has been sent across space and time with no real destination.
There's still the threat of the Time Eater, in the comic's it's a sentient monster without an eggman controlling it and it appears at random.

It was pre reboot. Also, you gotta remember in the comic biz you have to make your readers wanna keep reading. Sonic getting his ass beat created tension. I mean, the hero lost. What's everyone else suppose to do? But they can't have a total eggman victory because the story would be over so they had the friends beat him. It's the same as Team Dark getting killed in the megaman crossover. Everyone with a brain knew they didn't die, We saw Shadow take is limiter off before the blast, Sonic finds one of his discarded rings and Shadow appears once everything is fixed. Whatever is going to happen to them will probably just not be as a result of the crossover event.

He can't actually. Here's the trick with Modern Sonic, at least in Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations: When you first use boost, it doesn't immediately go to this top speed. Sonic actually goes slightly faster the longer he boosts. As long as his boost isn't interrupted, he steadily gets faster and faster. And due to a flaw with the physics engine, he can go even faster still by drifting/rolling while boosting.
He may be gullible, but don't doubt Knuckles for an instant unless you want to become pudding.
And he's not even among the top five physically-strongest characters.

He ran is his ass off trying to escape a black hole but he ulitmately didn't make it and he fought as hard as he could against Dark Gaia and as soon as he won he passed out and lost his super form, he would of died there with Dark Gaia had Chip aka Light Gaia not grabbed him and took him to the surface. Sonic is strong but on his own he's not that tough. It's possible to outlast him and outrun him.

Sonic Unleashed would have been twice as good if they replaced the shitty Werehog Sonic with Knuckles and touched up the night stages to make it more appropriate for his playstyle/gliding. Removing Chip from the game would also bump it up a couple decimals.

He's:
- As fast as he needs to be. If the game needs him to be faster than sound, he is. If the game needs him to be even faster still, he is. If the game needs him to be SLOWER, again, he is.
- As tough as he needs to be. He can survive atmospheric re-entry and doesn't even get knocked out by the impact.
- As smart as he needs to be. He always understands exactly as much as he needs to.
- Can sometimes telekinetically control wind. There is literally no explanation for this.
- Can teleport or warp time/space with a Chaos Emerald. This is apparently a power that all hedgehogs have for some reason.
- Can alter his trajectory while airborn. Because fuck you.
- Goes FASTER as he goes UP inclines as long as he's boosting and rolling at the same time. Because fuck you.
- Has both a pilot's license and a driver's license. The pilot's license is acceptable. There is literally no reason why Sonic would bother taking a driving test.

As far as the why, it's because he quit from Archie after Archie put Ian Flynn in a higher position than him. He basically left on the note of "In a couple months, you'll be BEGGING me to come back!"
Then three years passed, and the comic was in better shape than it had been since Penders started.
Technically, SEGA did, but they'd still need to hash that out in court itself. SEGA didn't have an open and shut case. And there was some legal shenannigans on Penders part that put pressure on SEGA to ignore this shit by putting pressure on EA. So Archie sued Penders and the court dropped the SEGA/EA claim until after the Archie claim finished. SEGA wanted it to go away as fast as possible. If they actually confronted it, it probably would have ended. But SEGA didn't give a shit about any of the archie characters. They were pissed at Archie that they let this happen, and only Archie cared about the characters. Why would SEGA care about them? So they basically just let Ken have them.
