The parts have stats and ranks , any c rank gun will do the same damage for example. You can rank up any part you want by using other parts, also the parts have abilities you can merge into other parts.so once you get parts from a suit you like you can just level those up

You can add decals, battle damage and scuffed edges to make it more realistic

You can max out any part. You can construct a zaku II with low rarity parts from the start of the game and by merging with higher rarity parts you can can increase the rarity of the Zaku parts to fit more skills. The only things that don't have the same potential are weapons because they have an extra two levels of RNG that affect moveset and bonus damage.
