What's /v/ stance on memes in videogames?

Anyone who complains about memes being used in official products while happily regurgitating them here is a hypocrite and a fool.
So I'm fine with them. They're usually kind of stupid, but people pretend to be stupid here all the time.

I don't hate them but I don't like them either. When I see them all I can think is that in a 5-10 years when someone goes to play it for the first time, they're not going to understand the references. Or, if they're familiar with the meme, that they'll just look at it with contempt.
fucking lame excuse for actually writing funny material
unfunny. any references to internet "culture" are unwelcome.
Same as writing pop culture references. It's just a crutch for bad writing. I mean maybe throwbacks to some stuff is OK but directly taking internet culture seems like they're trying too hard.
Can be used sparingly in certain settings well enough but games that include them usually do so as a crutch for decent writing

A game like Life is Strange they're semi-cringey but at the same time french developers and writers so I don't blame them.
Plus I really like Life is Strange.
