It's a team game. Do you know how often things are 1v1 for that length of time. Usually it's quick engagement and someone lives and some dies by burst. The minute you turn into an icicle is the minute you give someone time to react to your presence. It's one of the things that made McCree broken as hell before his nerf and still makes him good if you have good aim. He can kill you and your team can't react to his presence in time. It's one of the reasons why Reaper is so good now. It's one of the reasons why Mei is not good because unless your constantly hitting alt fires from far away everything she does takes time and in a team game like this where the maps aren't huge you give their team time to react to your presence.
The only reason Mei gets so many complaints is because she freezes you solid and that's annoying as hell because nobody likes to be stuck in place no matter how long it takes to freeze.
