Let's have our daily subnautica thread
How's your base and exploration going? I visited the Aurora, repaired the radiation and now i've built myself a seamoth. However still need to find a moonpool so i can build a upgrade station to put solar panels on it. Sucks the sandstone is so damn hard to find.
>>343208747
>start a hardcore save
>about an hour in, collectan things for base
>inventory full, start heading back to pod
>screen starts going black
>power of sheer panic propels me to the surface just in time
I've since learned to always point one eye to my o2 meter because christ that caught me off guard
>>343209107
>hardcore save
One death is all it takes for you to lose everything..And since dying is quite easy i don't wanna do that
IS this game good?
The only survival game I tried wasminecraftand I really do like exploration.
>>343209269
makes the game more tense for me, I've played enough by now that the creatures aren't really frightening anymore. Except the crabsquid, fuck that thing.
>>343209456
c-crabsquid? W-where
>>343209409
They keep updating it and it's quite good if you enjoy deep sea
>>343209757
fuck, i hate even more dangerous fishes.
BIG BASE A SHIT. POST COMFY BASE.
>>343209838
That's bretty cool. Where did you build it? And what's that sphere in the upper right corner?
My base is in the safe plains right below my escape pod. Perhaps i'll build another one further away. First priority now is to find sandstones and moonpool blueprints
threadly reminder that building a scanner room will remove ambient sounds from your game
How the hell are you supposed to get anywhere?
The only real way to defend yourself is a survival knife, which is complete shit. If you want to go into those Kelp forest, you have to horde a shit ton of small fishes to keep the Stalkers off you, or else you get fucked by them. They expect you to go into these areas, but how can you do so if you can't defend yourself from the things within them?
Also, how the hell do you deal with Crash's? Pic related. You either get lucky and have them get stuck under the terrain, or else you get fucked by them. If you are under 80 health you can die from them. How do you handle them?
>>343210248
Guess i'm not doing it then. What's the point of them anyway?
>>343210374
Fuck, forgot pic
>>343209990
Built it inside the largest island in the underwater islands biome. The "sphere" building is the scanner room.
>>343210374
get a seaglide and mlg dodge all predators
>>343210385
they scan for any resource you specify within 50m (I think?) by default, can be upgraded though. There's also an upgrade that makes said resources show up on your HUD and it lets you build camera drones. sounds cool and all, but it really isn't worth not being able to hear any predators or fauna. Hopefully they patch it soon.
>>343210385
It's a bug, they'll fix it. Scanner rooms pinpoint any resource you scan for up to a certain distance away, and they have remote cameras for exploring.

>daily subnautica thread
You are opening more than a daily thread, Mr developer.
This forum adversting package you bought for your game during the steam sales is really good. Can I ask you the name of the marketing company in charge of the advertising campaign?
>>343210374
>>343210374
It's called progression and observation.
You're not supposed to see stalkers until you have a seamoth at the least; which is easily fast enough to get away from them. Crashes make a clacking noise, there's no reason not to know they aren't around. you can deal with them by either stasis rifle or seaglide to outrun them.
Or you can stop being a pussy and knife them dead before they explode.
>>343210374
You need the Seamoth.
>>343210931
Did you do this nonsense when Smash 4 was being hyped? "Hi, Mr. Sakurai, thanks for visitng 4chan, can you tell us what characters you're cutting from Brawl? Please say the one I hate most is gone".
>>343211129
>You're not supposed to see stalkers until you have a seamoth at the least

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-06-07/china-pushes-plan-for-oceanic-space-station-in-south-china-sea
>China is speeding up efforts to design and build a manned deep-sea platform to help it hunt for minerals in the South China Sea, one that may also serve a military purpose in the disputed waters.
>Such an oceanic “space station” would be located as much as 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) below the surface, according to a recent Science Ministry presentation viewed by Bloomberg.
>The project was mentioned in China’s current five-year economic plan released in March and ranked number two on a list of the top 100 science and technology priorities.

>>343211129
Dude I killed a stalker with a knife as soon as I could. Didn't even have the glide. Progression in these kind of games is purely up to the individual.
>>343211205
Smash 4 was being hyped when the game was going to release, not 2 years later like subnautica
It's too obvious, we never had 5 subnautica generals the last christmas steam sales you know. This advertising campaign on 4chan is too forced, they should do it more subtle

I say that about all of the games people keep shilling on /v/. We don't need any Final Fantasy, Dissidia, Smash Bros, DoA, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, or PC threads here, take that shit to /vg/ where discussing games is allowed. The games I hate especially need to go, seeing a thread about them makes me so fucking pissed off.

>>343210374
Stalkers can easily be dodged w/o anything. Once they're directed at you, they go towards location and have to realign themselves if you sideways. So if you have one on you, you can just zigzag your way away from it until you get to safety.
So is there an endgame to this? Or is it just another build/survival game like Rust or whatever?
Where the fuck are the seasons blueprints? I've got everything else and I've looked round for hours

So I'm almost at 2 hours on this game and need to decide whether to refund it or keep it. The game is pretty fun so far, but I've been tricked into buying early access survival games before. I have 290 hours on Ark and I regret the purchase greatly (most of that was idling, but still).

Either the hull is super thick or the individual modules are very small inside, like just large enough in diameter to stand up. Because the larger the volume of air you enclose, the hull thickness must increase exponentially to withstand such intense pressure differentials. I am expecting something like the ISS but smaller modules.
>>343210374
Stalkers are very easy to kill with a knife, just strafe and they can't turn fast enough to bite you.
Once you get the sea glide and an o2 tank you can dive down to like 150m as long as you're careful.
The sea glide will let you evade the Crash fish too.

If you don't see yourself enjoying it much longer, just refund. I actually already did that once with this game back in the winter sale. Decided I was more in the mood for Elite Dangerous at the time so refunded this and bought that instead. Don't regret that choice one bit. Just bought this again the other day now that it's further along though. It really is more of a make your own fun kind of game, so your enjoyment hinges on your interest in the setting. I'd say it probably won't last you as long as Ark did despite your dislike for it.
I haven't played this in over a year is it an actual game now?
>>343213336
I wouldn't say it's an actual game until it releases or puts out a version with your objectives and the mission/story to complete.
But it has added a lot of things.
I've seen enough hentai.
>>343213336
Yeah, if only because base building has been fleshed out. It's worth it even just to build Rapture and chill in your cozy little habitat watching fish go by through huge windows
>>343213523
>Build giant underwater city
>No one to share it with until multiplayer finally gets implemented
Till then, we're all going to have to be crazy fish men.
Gorgeous game bought it during the steam sale. I played the shit out of it for 10 hours and experienced everything there is to see. Built my seamoth and cyclops, upgraded my base, got all the fragments.
I thought I might try and build a base near the thermal vents but just didn't see the need to. So I stayed near the kelp forest. Fun and atmospheric game, give it a 8/10. Waiting for more updates and content until I jump back into it.
>>343208747

am I wrong or can you not see the sun unless it's during a solar eclipse in this game?
>>343214094
Biters and sandsharks are smalltimes. Spike plants aren't that common if you don't go deep, and I've never seen a Reaper hangs out around there, the closest one is roaming in the nearby mushroom forest a good two minutes of Seamoth away.
>>343213727
isn't Subnautica made by a small team of former modders?
I mean a lot of people say in order to make a good looking game you need a huge, AAA style budget, but games like this seem to prove the contrary.
muh base
>>343214817
I'd use one of the slav games like Metro or STALKER to prove quality isn't by having billions of clams. They have at the most extreme half of what AAA developers do but have put out better games.
>>343214952
well now you can just mention mighty number 5.6 and get the same point across

I think /v/ likes it because it's a pretty atmospheric deep sea game where you can't just kill every creature you run into.
At it's core it's just another survival crafting game. If the setting and atmosphere doesn't appeal to you and neither do survival crafting games it's not really for you.

Your suppose to swim towards the ocean or parallel to the shore for a good couple of yards till you stop seeing or feeling the pull of water
>>343217924
You go to the front.
>>343218020
What if you keep swimming towards the ocean and never feel the pull stop? Land starts to get smaller and smaller on the horizon but the pull is still there.
Do you just give up your life on land and embrace your new life as a fish?
>>343217819
it'll pull you back beyond where waves start to break
if you're a strong swimmer it's easy to deal with, just swim parallel to the shore for a ways while you're getting pulled out until you feel you aren't being pulled, then you can swim back to shore. the problem is for kids or people who aren't aware what's going on and try to fight the current, exhausting themselves and becoming panicked. a large amount of people die each year from them sadly

About as long as you'd expect for $15 but as a sandbox and exploration game it continues to entertain long after you've built everything there is to.
A lot of people make the seamoth, cyclops and a sea base, then stop playing. That's retarded. The point is to explore.
>>343218689
They actually can. Bring them small fish, and there is a chance they'll drop a chunk of metal near you. Just be careful, it's temporary.
>>343216750

As a kid I used to swim so far out into the ocean I could barely see land. Never had a problem coming back in, was later confused at how adult ended up dying in the ocean, but I'd occasionally end up so far down the beach I'd be lost. Parents called the police the last time I did it and they found me twenty miles away. It was the last time I was allowed in the ocean alone.
>>343219204
Are there any fun things and places to actually explore though? For example, Oblivion had a dead troll under a bridge with a little suicide note, and abandoned camps, and shipwrecks that made the world feel alive. Are there little touches like that, or is it just a featureless world to build a base and gather stuff in?

>>343220930
that's pretty neat. I'm trying to figure out where to place the moonpoo. Any pics of where you have placed yours?
I feel like this game should have 2-player co-op. And just 2 player. The starting life pod has two chairs and I think it would quite add to the immersion without taking away from the isolation. Also would increase the longevity of the game, increase the chance of shenanigans during exploration (especially once the Cyclops is made) and make collecting resources less of a chore.
Loving the game though. I don't know how big the map is at the moment, I've only gone as far as the Kepling plants on one side and the crashed Aurora on the other.
>>343221339

They're calling it a space station because that's the tech they're trying to copy with it.
Chinks literally cannot create anything on their own. They copied the shinkansen, and it exploded, killing all passengers. They stole a Russian battleship scheduled to be scrapped, then fucked up its guns and turned it into a useless ceremonial warship. They copied American toilets and somehow turned them into IEDs.
They will do nothing less than build a massive tomb at the bottom of the sea, dump a bunch of unfortunate graduate students in it, then literally bury the entire thing when everyone gets trapped inside after part of it explodes, like they did with the shinkansen clone wreckage.
Chinks are not human.

Fucking americans. When china does it it's always for nefarious military reasons. But if america built one then it would be for furthering scientific research and for humanitarian purposes. Even the missiles would just be there for quick access to the surface and certainly not for firing at other countries.

Ideally you swim parallel to shore. Iirc the way rip tide currents are formed they don't go out more than a couple miles and if you can't swim that or know how to take a breather while swimming then you shouldn't be in the ocean in the first place.

is this a known bug?
i was swimming around, a bit far from the escape pod but not more than a few minutes from it. i saw some big creatures that were new to me and made some weird sounds, but didn't seem hostile as i got near them. they were flat looking, don't remember much else or their name. anyway, i was swimming away and all my fucking tools just dropped, and for some reason i had the default items found in the storage thing that i had took out and dropped earlier, the water and food blocks (since i'm playing on 'murica mode). do those creatures have some incredibly stupid fuck your inventory and logic mechanic or was it unrelated to them and just a bug?
>>343209107
Is this the kind of game that makes it fun to see how far you can get and start over, or is it just a huge pain in the ass?
I don't mind failing in, say, Don't Starve. But dying in Survival in Fallout 4 and losing time pisses me off so bad that I just don't play the game anymore.
Also, Mr. Nogunz needs to get the official release done so that he can start the console ports. I mean he's already working on the Xbone port before it's even released, which I really don't understand, but I guess you don't have to have a game done these days to release it. I just don't think my laptop can handle it at all and would rather sit back on PS4 like I play everything else.

would be about as subtle as a brick to the face. but something that makes you see/hear things that aren't there would be good, as long as it wasn't ghosts or something retarded. maybe something that is really small and basically harmless, but follows you around and hides near your base, making you hear things in other parts of the base, or behind you in the submarine. at the very most, maybe something that makes your radio play fake, spooky distress signals.

What if, instead of creatures with wierd mind-affecting powers, your character just went mad. You're isolated alone on a strange planet. You're sole survivor of a catastrophic crash. I think it's understandable that he would start hallucinating dead crew members when walking around his underwater habitat. Catch a glimpse of someone at the far end of a corridor. But when you start to move in that direction, they dart around a corner. You go over and there's nothing there.
No monsters, no mind-control. You're just slowly losing it.

There is your mistake. The sea is scary bro, when there are no windows you can pretend you are on land.
Please help me. My save got corrupted so I guess I'm gonna start a new save - what's the best things to concentrate right off the bat? I was 2 hours in and trying to find fucking silver but I couldn't, I wanted to put a fabricator in a mini base I was constructing.
What's the best way to get decently equipped somewhat quickly? It took me 2 hours to get a single building up like 50m from my pod and I had a scanner, a welder, and a radiation suit. That's it. I didn't use the fucking knife because I can't seem to kill the barricuda things in the creepvine trenches.

>>343231286
Since you just repainted it for the first time, I will give you some advice so you do not have to figure it out on your own.
You want the most gaudy and noticeable seamoth you can build. It will really help when you are in the deep dark trying to find it. The beacon is not enough when you are only a few feet away.
One of the things I really like about the bases is that you get the exact same amount of materials if you decide to move. Can you imagine how much of a pain in the ass that would be if you only got like half?
>>343223928
Anyone who actually finds this scary is a big shilling faggot
It'll be neat, but come'on.
>>343231415
you can early on get away with a base consisting of a single corridor, or of a "T" corridor, or a "+" corridor.
I would suggest you get accustomed to not having the all-purpose room early on as devs have expressed interest in locking it into a blueprint you have to dig up, I assume from either the Holy Diver signal or theFloating Island signal.
>>343231508
Hmm makes sense i suppose. I never really go far away with it, i park it right next to the loot i want to pick up and then i go back inside. But good advice for when im gonna do it i suppose. Also how do you pick up loot that's deep below? I did manage to swim a bit in 200 + deep water though.

Like some anon said, there are so many ways they can really make it scary for us. Such as the base welcoming someone when you're already in. Or you looking outside the windows and see a huge creature coming towards you. They do need to make this game more scarier
>>343230975

>>343231165
Speaking of thunderstorms. Bad weather when? I want to see huge waves, rain, perhaps even tsunamies? And currents. Have the devs even spoken about it at all?
>>343230060
You're making me think of that moment in Jurassic Park where the power went out. You see the T-Rex's claw reach out and test the electric fence.
I wonder how to do that underwater.
You hear a roar and a bit of clanging on the outside of the sea base. Then you look out the window and see a reaper staring right at you, each of his head-claws grasping a corner of the window. There would be a tense moment where he jus stares at you. If you move, his eyes would follow you. Then he starts tugging at the window.
Maaaydaaaay.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNrQD-oXfO8
How do I get the Exosuit upgrades like the jump jet? The wiki doesn't have any commands for those.
I got pretty carried away with the base building stuff, pretty certain I'm only going to use half of the space but I just wanted to build a base that leads to the surface.
This heat signature objective has been lurking 400 meters below me for quite sometime now, should I build a sub before going down there?
Is there any way to find more signals? I think I've found 4 so far and I've searched all over the Aurora. I had to find the islands on my own and its getting unexciting just sitting around doing nothing.
>>343231849
>if you move, his eyes would follow you

>>343231843
I'd like a pseudo timer, maybe a week where the sun wont go down and it'll be so hot that you'll die if you surface. Like you need to go deep enough so the light can't reach you, and have enough resources so you can stay in your base for a week.
Or huge waves that damage your base if it's too close to the surface.
>>343231958
Yes. That way they have something else to chew on while you run away screaming. Just don't scream too loud or they'll come for you to.
>>343222952
I think you are talking about the Vietnamese.
Authentic Chinese cuisine is nice, although it is hard to make
WHat is the devs deal with not wanting to give the players options for defense?
If it was to keep the player intentionally weak to maintain tension I could understand it, even though there are other games in the genre who give players ways to defend themselves while still keeping things tense.
But from what I have read, the sole reason is that the dev is trying to take a moral standpoint that because Sandy Hook happened no games should ever have guns in them now.

For the type of planet it is the sun wouldn't be too hot that you'd die if you stayed on the surface. Otherwise it wouldn't support life.
Idk guys this game went from being talked about once a week to round the clock generals on /v/. I smell shilling.
Though it is a fun game, definitely worth a pirate now and buy later if the dev holds his promises. UI is really shitty tho and lots of features still to be implemented.
>>343232254
It is for the feeling and setting. You're a scientist, not a soldier, and it's an exploration game
The people reposting the social awareness thing from one dev never mention that it was just one of them and that he was full of shit. The devs just want you to get creative instead of murdering it all.

Well why the fuck wouldn't you have both? The pro of a gun over a knife is that if a shark is trying to eat you, you don't have to wrestle with said shark to defend yourself.
>>343234903
So you're just ignoring needing blueprints to make anything and it being a mining ship that wouldn't have random harpoon designs.
You must be shitposting to completely ignore the idea of progression, having enemies that you need to avoid until you've "leveled up" helps pace gameplay instead of immediately having a gun that can kill any enemy so you can just go straight to the final areas.
This is basic gameplay design that you're sperging over because you want an exploration survival game to pander to your personal desire for a casual action shooter with fish.

In fact it will make things worse because criminals will still have guns via black market, while they know an unarmed population is very easy to abuse, or massacre if you are one of those lunatics. It's impossible to prevent criminals from getting guns. Even the UK that is an island has armed criminals. So nothing more fair than allowing the population to have it even for self defense.

In-game dialog suggests that humans have been eating synthetic food for generations and the character might have difficulty with eating plants and fish from lack of familiarity.
This is a society largely disconnected from raising animals for food let alone hunting them.
To them tieing your knife to a metal tube might not be so obvious. Even using the stasis rifle and propulsion guns defensively/offensively is something of ingenuity using tools designed for other purposes like dead space did a bit too and I'd like to see more of that with inventive high-tech ways around obstacles instead of just underwater guns and grenades and tanks to blow up everything you see move.

Actually thinking about it more you don't even actually "craft" anything in the game, you just use the replicator/builder/mobile-vehicle-bay to make things from blueprints.
Average humans in this world might be largely unable to do much of anything without smart machines holding their hands because technology has reached the point that it's easier to make things user-friendly instead of educating technical skill for the average person beyond operation.
I got the vibe from the abandoned base data that the mercenary/bodyguard was a highly unusual human trying to harken back to more rough-and-tumble survival like modern survivalists/reenactors and the son had "enhancements" that allowed him to figure out building things.
>>343240034
That is interesting, maybe programmed emergency scenarios of some known alternative uses of tools kinda like the suggestion to actually eat stuff you find like the idea might not come to you otherwise.
Of course it could just be an oversight and at this point any of the descriptions and data could change at any time.

even if it never came the survivors mind, the PDA thing would suggest it if a fabricator wasn't available.

>China
Yeah you have bigger worries than lone criminals in there

They are aiming for an August release date so the Steam Sales are likely the last best discount.

>stasis rifle is still in the game
Hundreds of children die every day in tragic ZA WARUDO accidents. The devs should really put an end to this.

>we ARE the top of the food chain
Mosquitoes are above us.
Then there are others like sharks and alligators that we eat right back.
Where does this "we're at the top of the foodchain" shit come from?
>>343242936
Gotcha. Getting it now.
>>343243058
>mosquitos are above us.
They are dependent on us not the other way around.
>>343241991
well, didn't expect the get e reply after this much time, thanks
guess I will have to wait for my upgrade
Is there a fix for the non working bulkheads yet? I want a hueg base and building foundations is REALLY janky, but I cant deconstruct every bulkhead every time I want to get through it
>>343243058
the world is literally at our whim bro. what kind of nu male cuck doesn't realize that the fate of the world and all its denizens is entirely in our hands?
This was a good thread. I hope we get at least half of the scary shit that was suggested here.
>>343242410
I mean you can doubt all you want but the fluff suggests it as the reality of this game-world and it has been touched on in media before like in silent running where the crew-mates find the smell of non-synthetic food to be disgusting.
Even if you did think to eat something you found there's still the issue of knowing to/how to cook it let alone with fire when you're used to the idea of just eating ready-to-eat synthetic nutrition.
>>343242503
Yeah that's what I'm saying, without machines to guide them the future people of the subnautica world are lost, it needs to suggest eating to them.
>>343242136
wew
>>343241976
wot in the fock
>>343243153
LOL no
They need some animals to eat, not necessarily humans.
We've tried to exterminate them and failed miserably and now they're spreading a virus that attacks our ability to have children.
>>343243267
Cling to that "humanity fuckyeah" fantasy.
The world will keep on spinning even if we nuke ourselves out of existence and while there could be mass extinction we likely couldn't destroy all life if we tried.
>>343243724
we've attained space flight and our abilities are only improving
keep believing your edgy nihilistic dreams though. humanity will move on without you
>>343243724
If mosquitos are an issue, move somewhere cold.
We can do that, mozzies can't.
>>343243837
It's hardly "edgy nihilism" to think that "the world is literally at our whim bro" is a childish uneducated statement.
I do think that we will get our shit together and get off this rock but we are still very much dependent on our ecosystem and if we did vanish it a blaze of impotent fury the world would keep on going without us.
