I hate to sound like a salty baby but I've given up on playing today. My team is always garbage, always. When I solo queue into a stack I watch them fall over and die without doing anything, one group even tried to blame me when I had 4 gold metals after five fucking rounds. I even had one KotH game where we had two Lucio and two tracers.
You can guess how that one went.
I'm waiting until my friends get home so we can squad up because I can't take how fucking stupid pubs are. It's fucking stunning how people queue up for competitive and still run at the objective one at a time.

I played 8 games since that and won 6, moving up to 54, so it's pretty decent. Matches are also pretty close and people actually play together for once. It's pure paradise compared to Quick Match.

I had a Genji and a Hanzo argue for an entire match on who was worse. The irony was that if they had stopped kissing for two minutes and switched to something useful we might have won.

I played Pharah/D.Va and got 61% of the team's eliminations
the whole team was really well coordinated overall, which was a much more pleasant experience compared to quick play

I went 5-5 on the placement matches and I almost blew a gasket when i lost 2 of them to the game glitching, first one was a friend I was playing with and being completely unable to reconnect(It wouldn't even let us reinvite him back to our group), we even almost won that one down a man.

The right way to do a ranking system based on individual performance in objective games is to rank primarily on things like objective time and objective kills, and then kda. In my experience it's a better promoter of team play than w/l.

Mostly it's a bunch of alt firing until you get your ult.
Once that's up you're pretty much guaranteed a cap on the point, and you can start setting up turrets.

My friend played like 40% of his games as support, went 8-2 and got placed 59. It was a mixed bag of who he queued with but only his last 4 games did he queue with me at rank 60. I'm not sure how the placement works but it's obviously not based purely on wins, it's not based on medals because I have less golds and medals than my other friend who placed 54 when i placed 58. The friend who placed 54 played in the same 10 games as me for our placements so their system seems pretty complicated.

If a guy leaves in competitive, the other 5 players are allowed to leave without risking getting the leaver penalty. If you receive the leaver penalty you get 75% less exp.
With the punishing bit I meant that if the 5 players were to leave, the system would count those leavings as a loss. So you can leave, not get the leaver penalty, but still receive a loss. I think that's unfair.

It's hard to organize people in this game because it's so fast. Your team will become staggered as people die one by one if you're attacking, getting people to regroup for a push is almost impossible.
It seems like using multiple damaging ultimates simultaneously increases your chances of gaining ground, but having your team-mates save them.. is difficult to co-ordinate.
there really isn't any strategy, at least in pubs, beyond what hero you are picking, doing damage and healing.

am down to 58 though, the only games i win are koth games which are bugged atm and give a sliver of xp, all the cp/payload games i play go into sudden death and i always end up defending, it's super hard to win on defense in sudden death considering how biased it is towards attack.

In DotA I gained/lose between 24 and 26 points per game depending on if my enemies were meant to lose or not. In HotS I don't think I ever gained more than 105 points compared to the default 100 per game.
I haven't played enough to know how the system works in Overwatch, but in my experience there can't be MMR hell, since the entire system is hell in all areas. You either carry hard and fucking wreck everyone and eventually rise in rank, or you're an average well rounded player that just gets stuck at whatever rank you're placed at unless the game feels generous.
I lost a game and dropped down an entire rank and after that I won a game and got maybe 10% of a rank even though I got like 2 gold medals. Do I need to have a 90% winrate to rise at this rate? It all just seems pretty retarded. At least DotA was obvious that it required you to play a million games to rank up, Overwatch just looks like a mess.

In overwatch gold medals are taken into account also eliminations. Admittedly I'm not too sure how it works exactly but other games don't have these stats and awards.
To clarify I'm talking about the amount of rank you get after games. No the base ranking system.

Because everyone knows MMR is fucked and that there are confirmed ways to increase it in every game that uses it.
In DotA, there was a period where you got rated based on your performance, including hero damage. People confirmed this by consistently getting incredibly high initial rankings by using Zeus (burst damage hero) and using his ultimate (deals damage to all enemy heroes no matter where they are on the map) off cooldown to inflate the value.
There's probably something similar in overwatch that rewards a certain playstyle, it's only a matter of time before people figure it out. Then again, this is Blizzard, a game that thought Arenas in WoW were a good system for pvp.
