Why they don't make games with pre-rendered graphics nowadays?

because prerendering high quality is more work than putting together shitty assets.

20 years later and the SNES games still look better because they were prerendered

You chose a terrible example for that. Donkey Kong Country 1 doesn't hold up at all visually, especially if you look at the raw assets that would be used had it released today. All three games had hitbox issues too, and you'd never be able to do the moving dynamic levels that the new games have in a pre-rendered style.

REmake and the later 5th gen Squaresoft games are better showcases for what can be done with pre-rendered graphics.

I was thinking this recently too. Went through Onimusha 1 and 2 at the weekend and they look absolutely beautiful. Think of how pre-rendered backgrounds would look on current consoles.

I dunno pre-rendered gives it a certain style that allows the game devs to focus your attention on camera angles and textures they want you to see. I think a lot is lost when you make a beautiful looking world but let the player explore it themselves.

Sure you'll find some nice looking parts of the game but there's potential to completely overlook them.

For example there was a bit in Farcry 2 where I was just sailing a boat in some open water while the sun when down. It looked absolutely fantastic and I felt sad that I may potentially be the only person to ever see that view.

because pre rendered looks like shit unless you make everything else look equally as shit or else the difference between the rendered and pre-rendered assets is very jarring. Pre-rendered won't look good unless you make your entire game look like it was made with technology from the 90's
