King's Bounty: The Legend is a reimagination of the 1990's classic. Created by a Russian development team, Katauri Interactive, it provides steadfast Soviet quality with high production values.
Similar to the original, you pick up a single hero to go for an adventure and gather an army to fight for you. There's a lot of variety in units, covering your basic fantasy creature catalog in addition with different humanoid races, such as elves and dwarves. Creating a balanced army is a challenge of its own, for instance, if you ought to mix undead or demon units with humanoid soldiers and alike, the latter will lose morale and will to fight alongside those horrid monsters, unless you pick up traits to boost their bravery.
The battle mechanic is safe and familiar turn-based with hexagon tiles, while moving in the overworld happens in real time. There's a vast option of spells either to boost your own units, alter the battlefield or spread havoc among your enemies.
The game comes with an interesting marriage feature, where you can wed one of the female characters you meet and eventually have babies with her. Your wife and your children will provide different bonuses and she can also wear artifacts for you. If you break up with her, she will take a certain percentage of your gold and take away your children. Just like in real life! For all of you necrophiliacs in here,there's a zombie girl you can marry.
The world is huge. I mean, it's like freaking huge. You perform quests and come across with a lot of NPC encounters, which sometimes has different outcomes depending how you answer to them. There's a surprising amount of dialogue to read. Countless of dungeons and caverns are waiting for you to be explored. Even purifying a cursed object is a fight sequence of itself.

I was thinking about replacing Beyond Earth with Pandora: First Contact, but nobody on /v/ played it and can give opinion, nobody on /vg/ played it either (and they talk only about Stellaris now anyway) and I heard from Steam discussion board that it have absurd difficulty, even on lower levels (basically, devs gave massive buffs for AI, because "hurr, hard = hardcore, you wont learn unles you lose hard several times").
Self imposed limit is 60 EUR and this is my wishlist. Im even in mood for wasting money on experiment called "early access survival game" like this Novus Inceptio.

Is Battleworlds Kronos any good? I don't think I've ever seen anyone talk about it, but it seems to have pretty solid reviews and the screenshots make it look fairly polished.
If it's not worth the $5 does someone have a good alternative? I'm basically looking for a good solid TBS. It's pretty tricky, because I think I own most of the well known stuff so it'd probably need to be pretty niche.

I didn't like Beyond Earth at all. It felt too similar to Civ V but with less features for me to enjoy it. It may be different now, I haven't touched it since release.
The Shifters expansion on the other hand is really good. I already can't speak highly enough of Endless Legend, and this expansion adds some really nice new mechanics and content.

Fallout 1-2 are great, but dont buy it, original devs wont see a cent. They even made the games free on Gog before they lost the rights just to spite bethesda.
Steam versions come with Sfall (google it) iirc, but you'll probably need to update it. Also each time you quit your saves get synced and savefiles are pretty large so its a bit annoying.

If you do give Pandora a try, please report back. I think the community recently released an AI patch that's supposed to be pretty damn good. It's a modern SMAC clone, decent all around as far as I know.

AoD is easily one of the most important RPG titles of the past decade. No other game, besides Torment perhaps, has involved a comparable amount of dialogue-based role playing. Not to mention that in terms of reactivity AoD is peerless.

Pretty good. You'll easily get a handful of campaign runs out of it. Each campaign takes like 3 hours if you read the fluff text, which I'd recommend.
If you go for highscore or the weekly challenges you can spend a lot of time on that game, too.
Is Deadly Premonition as god awful a port as most people say it is? I've always wanted to try it but apparently the PC version is just awful

Closest to Dragon Age would probably be Pillars of Eternity.
Otherwise there is Underrail and Age of Decadence. These two are a bit more 'hardcore' though, and can be quite unforgiving. Underrail is pretty much a Fallout clone but with a much better combat, character and crafting system, although weaker when it comes to role playing and a bit more heavy on combat. Age of Decadence takes non-combat gameplay and reactivity to a new level and has a pretty interesting combat system too - although it takes quite a bit of frustration tolerance if you're new to the game.
All titles are more expensive than 7 bucks but well worth their money, depending on whether they deliver what you're looking for.

As someone who liked Gothic 1/2 and Risen, hated Risen 2, I can tell you that it's pretty alright. It's definitely a step up from the mess that was Risen 2, though at the beginning it might not look like that at all. Still, I would say it's a bit more... mediocre than the first one.
I would say that considering that the second half of Risen was pretty terrible compared to how nice the first half was, most of Risen 3 is ok.
The combat system is different though and you might... be able to break it soon enough. Not saying you couldn't do that with Risen 1 though.

As for Star Ruler 2, it indeed is quite unique, both in scale and ideas (like being able to create ringworlds or track asteroids or even whole planets). But in my opinion, it was TOO unique. Planetary "pressures" (basically how imported goods cause planets to automatically build certain structures, like markets), planetary levels (forcing you to have couple of important planets and dozens of "level 0" ones that exist solely to provide food and water to higher level ones), economy cycles (without ability to save for next one) and such.
I got it on GOG for 10$, played a bit and dropped.
Not for everyone for sure.

Dying Light is an interesting game action game with RPG elements and parkour. At the beginning, enemies are bullet sponges but that quickly changes. By the end you are one hitting everything.
Dead Island is similar to Dying Light (the latter being a spiritual sequel), but it is more of a RPG and not necessarily for the better. Enemies aren't that bullet spongy at first, but it does get worse since they scale in level throughout the game.

It's incredibly shallow in terms of gameplay at the moment and don't expect any kind of concrete story. All the 'quests' are literally filler tier on quality.
Some people will cite there being different ways to win as evidence of its depth, but as someone who has obtained all types of victories, it's really not the case.
The game is about as deep as say, monopoly. If that strikes your fancy then go for it.

I've played AoE II before, and really enjoyed it. I tried out Rise of Nations for an hour and refunded it. It wasn't terrible, but the I feel the mechanics are very limiting. If I want 15 farms to have a large food supply, I need to construct 3 cities with 5 farms each. You also can't build outside of these city boundaries. Compared to AoE II it just wasn't what I was used to I guess.

I'd say CoH2 would be your best bet, depends if you plan on doing lots of PvP or not, MoW assault squad 2 is great but the PvE is boring since the levels consist of AI that get waves of units every so often and throw these at you, you basically pick away at defensive line after defensive line trying to take out their AT capability before moving your tanks and infantry in, try to take a few flags before their next wave hits, move your defensive line forward to cover the flags you just took and repeat until the end of the level.

This. MGR for the combat and polish, KiD for the graphics and art style as well as the lewd minigames and utterly batshit crazy story.
I actually prefer KiD, although the combat is only functional at best.

I thought JC3 was overrated.
Only pros are the new tethers and wingsuit where you can essentially fly. Cons remain the same - shit car handling, no music, mediocre story, world feels empty, nothing to do other then main campaign and blow up bases. It's like replaying JC2 with mods. And Saint's Row 4 already did the whole flying thing with superheroes.
