I went 3-7 because sudden death is a fucking joke and benefits the team chosen to attack and it completely disregards winning faster than the enemy team.

your rank is determined on how well all 5 other of your teammates perform. it's RNG whether or not you get paired with people as good as you (assuming you're good), and having them communicate and cooperate completely. a rank <50 can be five times better than a rank >70, for instance

Its always down to me to play Rein and protect the fucking retards in competitive, literally every second of my existence has to be either shielding or recharing for them to get anywhere. I'll charge and take out a squishy every now and again, same with ulti but I'm always bronze or blank in everything other than objective time because if I drop my shield for 1 second everyone fucking decides to go in and die.

Still doing Placements, did 5 yesterday, will probably do 5 today. The first three matches I joined dropped before the match started, then me and 2 friends queued for the next 5 and won all of them despite extremely mediocre team comps and a Genji main every match on one team or the other. Not kidding, the last one had 40 hours as Genji at level 20.

It's the same as Unranked. If you go to the game Menu and look at the Competitive button, it will say "X/10 placement matches" which decide your rank. You need to finish all ten to get one.

Not a fan of the ranking system and how many points you gain/lose per game. All it takes is one retard on your team and you lose an entire level, considering how condensed the ranking system is there really isn't a way to get yourself out of the range of total retards.
Like, I'm seeing people with 40% overall winrates and DPS mainers who have stats lower than Support mains who are somehow getting rated in the 55-65 range. How on earth does this make sense? These people are as low as you can possibly go on the skill chart and yet they have ratings as high as pro players.

W/L is the main determining factor, the more steamrolly the game the more points you gain for it, the closer it is the less you gain.
Basically if you stomp a team and it's a gg ez game you'll gain at least a full level, sometimes a level and a half worth of points. If it's a really close game that you win you'll only get 1/10th of a level or so.

How you rank is determined by a number of factors, not just W/L, and why is it like that? So bad players can't just get carried into high rank.
If you play with a team of 4 other players, and they're fucking great, while you're fucking shit and just getting carried they will most likely place around 60, while you will place at 40, even if you played all your placement matches together
It's a mix of Hero performance, objective time, objective kills, kills (counts less than objective kills), what ranks the players on the other team are, etc.

It really sucks that Blizzard has found a way to make individual player impacts nearly meaningless despite how good you actually are. Nerfed! If anything, Genji needs a significant buff. I don't play Genji, but in my nonstop competitive last night, he was only used effectively to counter Bastion. The rest of the time, he was either useless or instagibbed. That was in my placements, and then ranking from my placed 62 up to 65.
Also, female Genji is hot.
So I'm in placements with the "top 500" marker, is that accurate or will it throw that out later in?

Winning all 10 or losing all 10 won't radically change your rank. The game already has an idea where your rank is. Those 10 matches just iron out the exact position, remobing the uncertainty. If the game thinks you are a rank 50, losing all 10 won't drop you to rank 20 and winning all 10 won't put you in rank 70 or whatever

I won 8/10 matches in the ptr and got ranked as 62 but I've had some real shit experiences with comp now that it hit the actual servers, the coin flip that decides if you attack or defend cost me 3 games and i ended up with rank 52.
