I know this thread is gonna be a bunch of shitposting, but I'm really interested to see what Phil Spencer does now that he's almost done fixing the shitstorm he started with in 2013.

He obviously cares about games over platform and is content with content NOT being exclusive to consoles. My worry is that Microsoft is still gonna be obsessing with only the big tentpole games and won't care about games that actually do try something different.

>yet another non-game gets a 10 out of 10

>>343153768
He still cares about exclusives, they are just extending their games division to include Windows PCs, which has been the gameplay of Microsoft since they announced that they are offering free updates to 10. They want to justify the cost by introducing people to the Windows 10 store. They even emphasized this point when asked why they would offer the upgrade to people with pirated copies of Windows 7/8. They need people with Windows 10 because it allows them to be potential customers on their software front.
Something that is PC/Xbone, is just them extending to the casual console playerbase who just want to buy a box and play games, while also trying to reach to more enthusiast crowd who builds their own PC and has a strong setup. It's all still going to microsoft, its different than Sony money hatting SFV and it still ending up on PC. I don't think Sony is getting anything from the PC sales of that game compared to the PS4 version. But I think Sony's idea on this, is that the PC market isn't actually a threat to the console market, which is kind of true.

That being said, he has done a pretty good job with the games division since he took over, damage is still done by the fuckface before, but Phil Spencer seems like a cool guy all around.

Enter the Scorpio.

Now what he needs to do is get some hits outside of Gears-Forza-Halo. He needs an RPG franchise to replace Fable I'd say.
>>
>>343154598
I think they are different markets too.

But the point is that Microsoft is just extending their arm into it with the Windows 10 store, so "not exclusive" isn't really accurate, its still "Microsoft exclusive" when they release games on both PC/Xbone.

It's like what Sony did when lots of games were multiplats only between Vita/Ps3/Ps4

It's still all just Sony consoles.

PC/Xbone is still just Microsoft territory.

Cpus don't need to change with an i5/i7 just the video card. With iterative consoles you're paying 400 for a new one plus 150 bucks of paid online totaling out to 550 bucks to stay on top every 3 years.

Meanwhile on pc you can throw 300-400 on a video card that will be stronger than a console by a large margin.

The slated neo is said to hold a weaker variant of the 480 which is btw a budget card. Like the 750ti. Most people deal with the 1070/490 just like people now hold the 970/390 as the main competitors.

If the neo comes out this year or next, we'll be seeing the next iteration by 2019/2020.

Unless you're delusional enough to think sony is gonna let the scorpio shit on it for 8 years.

>>343155993
>because reasons

It's because it was an indie artsy game. These critics are going to keep giving favorable reviews to games like this regardless of how bland they really are. I wish fun indie games like Castle Crashers were all the rage again. At least that game tried to be a game first and foremost.
>>
>>343156487

If you want to add an extra year that price just goes up to 600

The neo will come out first so I said 3 years. My guess is this September or early next year.

Then repeat the cycle for 2019/2020. The next iteration of consoles will have 3-4 years of paid online plus whatever iteration they hold at a starting price of 400 minimum. The disadvantage with that is that anyone with a pc can outpace the consoles largely in power since all they have to do is drop cash on a video card since cpus are stagnant. Heck sony is still gonna use that shitty jaguar in the neo to keep prices low. That's not even including the fact that gray market sites like green man gaming can drop new releases under 40 bucks.

So in the end consoles will be largely expensive if you want to keep up.

The question is do we really need Microsoft? How exactly dose anyone benefit so long as they stay in the console business? Their games only apply to Americans, they're 90% third person shooters, Kenji Infaune is directing their next big exclusive like what the fuck is even the point of Microsoft in the console business? Is it just for indie games and a paid review or what exactly is the point because I don't get it, they could fold tomorrow or leave the console space entirely and it would literally have zero affect on me.

There are literally more Xbox shills on /v/ at any given moment than actual Xbox fans, it's honestly just so pointless.

And it will keep continuing because too many of these fags prefer art/movies instead. So they will prefer games like this. Gameplay heavy games are too gamey.

>>
>>343157085
>One thing to note is that with Scorpio I think they will not release any other console until 2021 which means they don't have to spend money on R&D

Sony and MS will try to 1up each other.

In fact I don't think sony will enjoy being shit on scorpio by the neo for many years by that much of a margin. I wouldn't be surprised if they started doing releases every 1-2 years.

Likewise MS won't let sony put out something stronger for too long. So if sony does 2020, ms will do 2021 then wait 3 years and repeat. But this would mean sony will be behind for a longer time vs ms being behind for only 1 year. Thus sony will try to prevent this from happening and ms will follow suit.

I mean if you look at the situation now the ps4 was out November 2013

Now we're getting rumors we'll see it by the end of this year or early next year. That's a clean 3 years. With the scorpio out a year after, I wonder if sony will allow 2 years to pass of it being weaker only to keep repeating the cycle. Or just say fuck it and bring the next iteration early. Gonna be interesting to see.

Well you would be wrong there. You are literally saying that people are so lazy, they would rather spend $300+ then just upgrading their OS. People hate Windows 10, I get that, and I understand that, but those people are in the minority. Most normal people look at another windows upgrade and just do it without reading the fine print or caring.

>>343158660
>Windows is still the most commonly used OS
>Its logical to assume most ordinary people will upgrade to Windows 10 eventually
>The choice of spending $60 on a game to play it on their PC they already have, or $300+ to play it on a console.

Yeah no, logic dictates that most people will take the cheaper option every single time.
Example: Tell a pirate that its better to buy games, then to get the same experience for free, and see what choice they make.

You can't convince me that Microsoft is porting their games to Windows 10 "out of the kindness of their hearts". They are building trust with PC gamers for a reason. Its going to lead up to something, and whatever it is, I am sure PC gamers won't fall for it. It will fail, and Microsoft will have another scandal of some kind on their hands. It probably has something to do with the Scorpio.

On Xbox there is a feature which you can buy the game from someone who own it but you can't play online

The price is really good, totally worth but you need people to sell it for you

>I don't even have a GPU good , I will buy eventually
I'll help you out then. VPN for GOG so you can buy as a Russian (great conversion rate) and a simple place to start hunting for cheap keys is Ebay and CDKeyPrices.com

Also if you bookmark dealzon.com you can find all sorts of discount codes for sites like G2A and GMG (GMG is pretty awesome if you are weary of shady keysites, it is super trustworthy and you can almost always score a new game 30% off at launch)

Good luck on your adventure becoming master race. If you're a poor motherfucker get the 480 from AMD next month.

I'm a hardend Nvidia fag. Superior drivers. You can play the new game you bought day one rather than waiting 6 months for driver performance parity from AMD. However I gotta say, at that price point there are better options. It hurts me as a greenteam fag to say this but the 480 is only 199 and will run circles around the 950. Even the 470 will do the same at less. I'd strongly reconsider.

That said I'm still pissed I can't get my hands on 2x 1080 FTW cards. They've been sold out since launch. Stuck with my 980Ti until then

I'm not 100 percent, but I'm sure the 970s are going to drop in price, now that the 1080s/1070s are on the market. I've got one, and I've been able to max most of my games, and still get 60fps for the most part. I'll never understand why the 970 gets so much flak on here. It's been a pretty decent card, from my experience.

>Why do you spend so much money on graphic cards?
>980ti is more than enough for another 3 years of gaming
I play at 3440x1440, which the 980Ti struggles to push at 60FPS stable with max settings in all games. I mean SMAA and texture overscaling included, or at least max post processing.

I'm not really spending much. I can sell the 980Ti for about 400USD used to a friend and only end up spending 279USD out of pocket.

I did the same thin with the 780Ti except I sold it for 600 and got the 980Ti for about 50 bucks.

It is easy to stay current so long as you sell before value dips. The trick is to buy reference card designs with popular after market coolers. Value oriented gamers tend to buy those at launch and are looking for a second one used a year or two down the line, and the resale market for them is usually pretty small for sellers so your card can retain a huge chunk of its value.

Plus I have a job & a degree. 600 bucks is literally nothing.

Also if you have a backplate you can easily add on about 80 bucks to your resale value. Most companies (atleast until recently) only produce a tiny amount of backplates for cards. That is why I got 600 for a used very old 780Ti. EVGA didn't make but like 1000 backplates for the reference board and immediately cut production because Ti cards are stop-gap between new generations of GPUs

ANOTHER 10/10 game? Exsqueeze me?

Salutations, my fellow Undertalians! We have had a long (and unnesessarily dramatic :P) history on /v/, making great progress in achieving recognition for Undertale.

However, over time it has become clear that we face two enemies in gaining a broader acceptance and acclaim for Undertale: Underhaters (people on /v/ who just "don't get it" *smacks forehead) and "neutrolls", those who lack the determination xD to bring Undertale to greater heights and gain it the recognition it deserves.

While it is true that we have gained a fairly good deal of recognition and acceptance for Undertale over the past few months, I can't help but feel that are progress is flagging somewhat. We can do so much better, guys! We need renewed DETERMINATION! You have to remember what makes Undertale special FOR YOU. You have to remember why you chose to be an Undertalian in a first place--whether that was crying when goatmom died, finding quiche under the bench, meeting Temmie, or seeing Asriel hug Frisk.

All in all, what I'm saying is: in the end, it comes down to you. Talk to your fellow Undertalians. Talk to me. Renew your energy and accumulate support. It doesn't happen without us, and it doesn't happen without YOU, one by one, each and every Undertalian. Undertale has only barely breached 2 million sales. It has so much further to go. The sky (or the center of the Earth if you like :D) is the limit!

See you underground,

Don Matrick was the one who fucked up the brand. Marc Whitten was a temporary replacement who was there since the OG Xbox and left to steer that shitshow. He left to run Sonos soon after Xbone launched.

>>343158620

No he's pretty much a life long PC gamer. He was part of the rogue "skunkworks" branch the Encarta team made to put MS into gaming in the early 90's which convince Bill Gates to make gaming a major feature of Windows 95. Including the famous Doom port done by Gabe Newell. The goal of the Xbox from day one was to eventually create a shared ecosystem with PC by the plans laid out by J Allard, Robbie Bach, Seamus Blackley and Ed Fries but it got lost and muddied when the 360 started becoming successful on its own, Peter Moore suddenly left and he was replaced with Don Matrick who basically went full retard.

Hell, apparently Phil almost left a few times because of the frustration and politics dealing with a lot of bullshit from MS (Especially since he was Studio head in Europe and looking after Rare and Lionhead who kept having proto after proto turned down). Go watch that new IGN Unlocked with Ed Fries. It's incredible how Xbox even functioned and survived and Ed Fries even says that Spencer came into his office and asked if he should quit back in 2004 when Ed Fries was leaving before the 360 launched.

Yes I'd be inclined to agree that the news should be in focus if that was indeed the focus. But of course people are going to wank all over looks, that's just human nature and you can't just go crazy whenever people do. Because people do. Both male and females at that.

Not as much now because he mentions the way Xbox slots in the divisions (As a subsidiary of Windows) is the way it should have been run in the first place and he loves how it's been handled post Matrick so it doesn't have to deal with absurd pressure from shareholders and management. Or as he seen, near constant arguments between Gates and Ballmer over the direction (Ballmer blocked them buying Sega when Gates was all for it, even). He made his money and decided to leave to do what he wanted.

It's a real good interview. He holds back way less than the previous one.

They can do so by convincing consumers to buy their console, opening a gateway for those consumers to buy more games whose developers must pay a licensing fee and royalties for being on the Xbox. However, if a game is on both Xbox and Windows, consumers are less incentivized to invest in the console.

However, Microsoft gets nothing for games on Windows. Very few will upgrade their aging copies of Windows just for this game and even fewer will go out of their way to buy a Windows computer because everyone already has one or has access to one, not to mention Windows is now free, completely deleting Windows as a source of revenue for Microsoft.

He said he's happy with his current advisor gig for gaming startups and he's happy how MS is handling Xbox now (Especially their indie program) while most of the people part of the Encarta skunkworks project are running core parts of gaming at MS instead of outsiders and now executing the original vision the original team had in the "Shared Ecosystem" so he has no reason to go back in the first place. His job is done, even if it's a decade on when they first envisioned it.

IGN needs to get based J on an "Unfiltered" interview next though.

That guy is just brilliant

If he ever comes back to Microsoft I might support them again

he is a total mastermind

This is pretty much what Another World and that Prince of Persia game deserve. Of course they have to give Inside a 10 because you need to be trendy hipsters and with the times!

lol no

>Encarta skunkworks
Encarta was Microsoft's middling encyclopedia. Skunkworks refers to an experimental subteam of a larger corporation. Why is this combination of things relevant at all to Xbox development?

Just stop.

Apparently J still is spotted on MS campus from time to time. He was one of Ballmers advisors for years and Nadella kept him on. He's just not interested in rejoining even when he was even considered for the CEO gig. He's hugely passionate about his start up on Bike security and cyclist safety (He's a huge cycling enthusiast and had his bike stolen a number of times. Even on MS campus.) and he's made that his life now.

Shame no one noticed Max And The Curse Of Brotherhood. That was the Heart Of Darkness for a new age. Get it in the Steam Sale as a light snack before Inside. It's pretty good.

Encarta was huge back in the 80's and 90's before Wiki and had a relatively big team. Thing was they liked sneaking easter eggs and small games in Encarta (And got yelled at) because they loved video games and wanted to even add mini-games to explore in Encarta. MS also would let employees work on other experimental projects (As in Skunkworks) on the side as long as they were hitting milestones on products and a bunch of them decided to work on a PC Gaming push as a side project to Encarta to try push gaming inside MS. Bill liked it, especially after they showed the success of Doom (And the trouble the encarta team got into because they were obsessed with it and held LAN parties in the office) and eventually MS Gaming Studios was formed in the wake of it to do more videogames that would push Direct X and PC as a gaming platform as a small part of Windows. That would eventually culmanate in Bill seeing the console market and wanting Windows to be on TV's because they had success in the PC market and were one of the biggest publishers in PC at the time with two of the best selling PC Games (MS Flight Sim and Age Of Empires).

There's a huge history of gaming in MS beyond Xbox and it was mainly down to the Encarta team's side project. That's where it all began.

Why in the fuck would anyone buy an XBOXONE at this point? Did we all see the same E3? Everything XBOX is going to be folded into Windows 10. All 'exclusive' games are also on PC. They rendered the 'Scorpio' useless before they even announced it. I was pissed. I've been waiting for a couple XBOXONE exclusives and now the fucking things are on my PC. Microsoft took a giant dump on anyone that already owned one of their consoles. I'm an idort. I got my XBOXONE for next to nothing, but Christ almighty they've tried everything they could to chase me away. This was their plan from the end of the 360.

That has to be Brian Altano or Max Scoville doing those comments they think its smart to just start talking like that when anyone disagrees.

Is it just me or is this a funny term? Why skunk?
>>
>>343174601

Because they don't want a pc and want the stronger console?

Keep assuming every normie will buy a gaming tier pc though

>Example: Tell a pirate that its better to buy games, then to get the same experience for free, and see what choice they make
This reeks of non-sequitur, is that really the hardest you can manage your brain muscles? I wouldn't expect much out of a gamer anyways
