I actually prefer 720p 30fps.
>>
The difference between 1080 and 1440 isn't as big as 144 and 60.

>>343142768
Cinematic. I love watching flicks, films, movies, talkies, and cinema like this. Anything else feels too real.
>>
>>343142641
The higher the resolution the better but I hate anything above 50 fps. 60 feels very unnatural to me I personally like 40-45 fps
>>
1440p at 144hz because I'm not poor.
>>
Depends on the game

4k/30 for Cinematic games, most RPGs, most adventure games, most third person games, turn based games, strategy games, movie games, etc.

2k/60 for twitch FPS, twitch racers, most 2D/indie games, sports games, fighting games, shmups, rhythm games, precision platformers, etc.
>>
>>343142641
it makes no difference to me
>>
>>343142641

1080p 60fps

Majority of games made in the last decade don't even support shit above 60 fps without experiencing glitches. Why would I invest in a setup that will not only cause a glitchier game experience, but also needlessly demand excessive hardware for?

>inb4 poorfag

My rig is better than 96% of the world's gaming rigs, according to Steam. Just because I don't have a GTX 1080 and a 6700k doesn't mean it isn't more than fast enough for 1080p 144fps. I just don't give a fuck to waste power, generate excess heat, and kill my parts faster than I need to for what's ultimately unnecessary.

what is a decent 1080p 120+hz monitor that doesn't cost like $400 which is literally the amount I need to upgrade my dumpster CPU + mobo to actually be able to use a monitor of the size?

Frame rate is king to me. Even if you can't get all the way up to 140 even getting 30 or 40 frames more than usual is noticeable and cool for me. Just having the resolution bump doesn't seem worth it compared to having the game run like butter.

>>343142641
1440p 60fps

Sure anything higher up to like I think ~240fps is obviously going to be slightly better, but 60fps is fine if you want to settle for it. It is not choppy, but not the smoothest obviously. And in comparison, everything about 60FPS doesn't make it look choppy, it is just "less smooth."

1440p simply because less jaggies. It's the reason screenshots of games always look so good when they are downscaled or have tons of AA applied, no matter the other shit. If everything is sharp looking shit looks great. But when you play in-game and it doesn't look as perfect, because of the jaggies and lack of temporal AA when objects move.

I have two monitors. a 1440p one and a 1080p 144hz one.

>>
Neither. I prefer 1080p 60fps. Know how consoles look like ass to you now? Know how you used to enjoy a silky smooth 30fps but would settle for less as long as there was plenty of motion blur? Remember when 900p was good enough because of some retarded graph you saw in regards to how far away you need to be from a screen to reap the benefits of a higher resolution that has no sources? Now you're not satisfied with that, are you? Now these things bother you. That's why I'm waiting until it becomes bog-standard before I upgrade from 1080p or 60Hz.

I'm going to eat shit until I develop a taste for it.

My dream set-up would be to have a trio of 144hz 1080p monitors.

I feel like past 1080p resolution, it really stops to matter so much. But the difference between 60hz and 144hz is really eye-opening.

You wouldn't notice the difference if your monitor's only 60hz.

For anybody's that's actually used a 120/144hz monitor, the difference is actually enough to warrant never wanting to go back to 60hz.

No I just want to get high frames on a 1440p 165Hz monitor. 6700K, a GTX 1080, a couple SSDs and the other supporting hardware are expensive. I used to have a $5000 PC with dual 780Tis and a Hexacore CPU but this time I didn't want to spend as much money since I have a car hobby to waste money on as well.

I have a question. Does 1440p actually give you more screen area in video games or is everything just enlarged, so to speak?

I'm just finishing up my 2560×1080 build for The Witcher 3 since it gets me more a more panoramic view for immersion.
>>
>>343160440
more screen more pixels more clarity but not by much.
>>
>>343160136
3d doesn't work at 144hz, only 120. So, no.

1440p is better for 3d monitors, though.
>>
>>343160556
It's odd because I get drastically more visible area for 2560x1080 and you'd think that'd the case for 2560×1440 as well....

Currently using 1080p/144hz. I mostly have been playing racing games and Overwatch...so that helps.

It's all situational. If you aren't playing competitive online games--especially shooters and racing titles--go for the prettier resolution.
