You can pick which hero's weapon you unlock. It's just like spending gold is now. In addition to the point for winning each game, everyone gets a lump sum of competitive points based on their skill rating at the end of each season. They've suggested that the highest ranked players would get enough points for a weapon each time, while lower rated players would have to grind longer.

With how much bitching I've seen in quick play since starting, it's been there for a while.
1st Game of Ranked. They push the car to the end with about 70 seconds to spare. We then push car with 4 minutes to spare.
3-3. Sudden Death kicks in and we lose as we didn't get the 1st point within like the 2 minutes it gives you. They have Reign, Mercy, Bastion and Turret man who just keep us locked in spawn for the most part. WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA? Why does it not have a Stopwatch of who pushed the car the fastest to the end.

I played competitive in the PTR and ended with a ranking of 60 after the placement matches. Everyone worked together for the most part, even the Koreans were friendly and played well.
After a couple games on the main server, it's been nothing but shitflinging and people doing dumb shit and it makes me sad considering I'll probably never have the same quality of games I did on the PTR.

Not as well as you'd think. Pharah can give Mercy a lot of mobility but her damage boost doesn't really do a lot for her. It still takes the same number of direct hit rockets to everyone except tanks and it only takes one less rocket there.
It does let you one shot Zeny and Tracer so there's that.

You approach a Bastion from his flank, get a couple of shurikens in, 3 do around 90 dmg. Double if you hit the weak spot.
If he doesn't turn around, he is dead. But when he does, you reflect. If they are a bad Bastion, they are dead. If they aren't and actually stop shooting, you cancel your reflect animation with shift.
Now you are in the bastion's face having dealt around 100-150 damage. He will either stay in turret mode and fire, or transform and run away.
Either way, you are literally in his face, just spam a couple of right clicks while double jumping around him and he is dead. All the time. The only way this doesn't work is if you aren't fast enough to do all I said in 2-4 seconds, or the Bastion is literally protected by the whole team, which doesn't happen often.
Even Bastions with Reinhardts get wrecked by this combo.

My 3 game experience with ranked so far - all wins, all playing Lucio:
1st game: Nepal, 3-1. Pretty good team, the section with the snowy town was the one we lost, and even that was pretty close. Ended with 15K+ healing.
2nd game: Volskaya, we were on attack first and got both points. Afterwards someone on the other team left, which lead to almost everyone but 1 person on that team leaving. Felt bad for that guy, but respected him for just sticking it out even if it was essentially impossible. He got all the upvotes at the end.
3rd game: Hollywood, 1-0. Another great team. Defense first, never was in too much danger. When we switched they did a good job keeping us out until the very end and we capped in overtime. 12K+ healing, got complemented by a very good Reinhardt on the team.
I don't expect this to continue at all, but at least so far, everything's going pretty good.

The forced 50% is Myth, they've explained how matchmaking works. You've got MMR in Quick Play too, just the same as competitive.
If you're better than the MMR they've got for you you'll rise, if not you'll fall, if they've got it mostly right you'll stay at about 50%

Well Pharah is better at range than Junkrat. Rat can spam, but in a competitive setting people are probably smart enough to walk away from grenade spam.
And while Junkrat is really good at close range/indoor combat, he's outclassed by Reaper, who is a very popular pick.

You start with a hidden mmr based on your unranked play and it goes up or down based on each calibration match with greater emphasis than regular games.

I get into 3 additional shitter games in a row to drop to 41 because it's a 2 torb, bastion, rein, mercy defending point A on hanamura or because my team runs in one at a time while I sit there, unable to help... playing support solo queue is literally aids...
Also, sudden death can fuck itself. No one can take A at Volskya so sudden death. We are attacking. Literally the same thing as the last two rounds. Drop rank. Nothing has ever made me so mad in this game before.

Your win rate is calculated by taking the number of games you've won and dividing that by the total number of games you've played. Your MMR is an invisible number that goes up when you win and down when you lose and is supposed to represent how good you are at the game. Bigger premade should = bigger advantage, thus the need for groups of similar size on each team.
Here's the problem, though: The ping part is the only part they actually get right usually. USUALLY. There are still plenty of laggy games that can't necessarily be helped.

The issue with group size is that the game does not double-check the actual size of the groups. It checks for groups on each team, period, and rolls with that. If you have been destroyed by a 5-man or 6-man team while on a team of "solo players", this is what happened. There was a 2-man or 3-man premade on your team, making it pass the "group check" even though a 2-man with 4 solos isn't anywhere close to equal to a 6-man team.
Finally, we have skill. The matchmaking cares about two things in regards to skill. It wants every player in the game to have a 50% win rate and it wants team MMRs to be relatively similar... in that order. I'm running out of characters, so the tl;dr of this is that matchmaking has no problem creating an unfair game if it means pushing most, if not all the players in that game toward that magical 50% number. It WILL match you based on skill, just like the Blizzard guy said, but it will use that skill in combination with everyone else's to keep everyone at a 50% win rate as best it can. It also has no problem forcing a win for you when you're >50% or a loss when you're <50% if it means the rest of the lobby gets closer to 50%.
