Is playing Ape Escape 1 worth it if you are new to the series, or should you go straight to the PS2?

Yes, not sure if you have a PS1 with DualShock, PS2/3 with backwards compability or an emulator.
It's a very important game to the history of PlayStation because it's the first game evre to require the DualShock controller.
