>>
sony exclusive
>>
>>343089385
Oh, cool. I'll play it.
>>
>>343089602
I thought it was an Xbox one exclusive. If it got funded.
>>
>>343089385
why would I support some consolized dead space in first person bullshit? fuck off, they just want the SS2 audience

What? I thought they were working on it.

I'll gib monies if there is some sign of ps4 version.

I hope this guy doesn't think PCfags will give them money past 500k

Gameplay (trigger warning: Polygon reviewer playing an FPS):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_uJ47oKHY0

Steam page is now up:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/482400/
>>
>>343089930
It's just a demo. Presumably the same one Polygon showed off yesterday.
>>
>>343089930
They are, which is why we will have an actual demo in about 35 minutes.

>>343089964
um lol? System Shock fanbase is largely on the PC.
>>
>>343089930
a lot of games start development and only go into KS later when there's actual footage to show off
>>
>>343089843
It's an accomplished dev studio with experience rebooting old franchises, this isn't a shot in the dark like other Kickstarters
>>
>>343089930
They were, they're going to have a demo when the Kickstarter launches, probably just can't afford developing the full thing.

Kickstarter is primarily used for marketing now, plus free money so of course they are going to use it. It's like investing except the ROI is 0%.

My favorite game to use it was that fatal frame game where you could play people's final thoughts. it was spoopier and was a good way of hand waving the entire "he took the time to speak into a recorder or write something down before he died" problem

What the fuck are with the graphics, it looks like a shitty Unreal Engine 4 fan game.
>>
>>343091109
I know right? Yes it's true a lot of shitty indie games are made on Unity, but that doesn't mean Unity itself is bad.
>>
>>343091109

No Unity is pretty awful. It's as bad as the unreal engine from the past gen.

Generic and shitty and I'm not going to pay literal money for any game using it.

The unity engine is just the gold stamp of generic, lazily made games. Everybody knows that.

I love system shock, but not enough to play a Unity remake.

>>
Can't say I'm enthused about what we've seen so far.
>>
I still don't know what i should think about them keeping the overall artstyle - not that i don't like ss1 artstyle but this really looks like they just ported the map into unity so there are limitations visable they had back in the day but shouldn't be in a modern game.
>>
>>343091435
most of the times its just a chance to preorder the game early, with a few added benefits. most people don't go for the 100+ dollar packages
>>
>>343092485
That's mostly because the engine is so accessible that a lot of lazy people got their hands on it.
UE4 has the same issue now, I've seen a lot of really shitty kickstarters with that engine.

The engine is just a tool, talent and hard work is what defines the quality of the game resulting from it.
>>
>>343092641
gotta go uncompressed for dat speed, yo
>>
>>343092485
Unity itself isn't that bad of an engine, but since it's available to anyone you see much more shitty games made with it.
Isn't the engines fault that a lot of talentless people use it.
>>
>>343092695

Nope. All games I've played that use the unity engine have been all really, really bad. So bad that the Unity logo before a game has become a red herring.
I'm never paying for another Unity game ever again.

Deal with it.
>>
Well where is it?

Well looks like the devs are officially late with their Kickstarter.

My biggest gripe is that the amazing HUD from the first game telling you what you can interact with is really gimped in this version. Hopefully it's just a demo thing, but considering how many people don't know how to use the heal/power stations or hack the circuits you can tell it's really necessary.
I bet a bunch of people missed the upgrades right at the start too.

You couldn't even name 10 games that use that. It's not really that common of a mechanic.
>>
>>343100413
Yeah Doom 4 really cemented it.

I don't mind it for cool weapons, it makes sense for a Super Shotgun or BFG9000, but there should be no hype for grabbing a fucking pipe.

If they want to add that character to the guns then they should just do idle animations.
>>
>>343100837
You're not crazy, but I'm assuming they don't have the voice actors yet so they just put it on the wall instead

So, they need to fucking answer this already.
Is this a fucking remake or a god damn reboot?
I played the demo, and from my admittedly bad memory of System Shock 1, it was a 1 for 1 remake of it.

If it's just a 1 to 1 remake, then I'm not interested. I want unique events and levels.

I hope you understand what you are saying, because that's would mean they are taking the system shock formula and splicing it between modern horror games. Now I don't want to be a negative nancy but the horror games of today would have worse an influence IMO than the shooters.

I feel like the only saving grace is that it's being worked on by the old Devs who are fucking magicians when it comes to constraints.
But a lack of experience and practice makes me wonder, and has there really been a good example of "dev comes to remake a game they haven't worked on in over a decade"?

Just beat the demo

Graphically, the game looks pretty good, and is pretty much just the station from SS1.

However, the combat is pretty mediocre. Your movement speed is WAY too low, the pipe does about not damage, and the enemies have a longer reach than you. Definitely wished they had leaned more towards the original in that regard.

This is only a "pre-alpha", so I'm hoping they will improve on it in the future.

In regards to the original, the enemies on the first floor were pretty much nothing, you could easily kill them in 1-2 hits with the pipe. In the demo I literally sat and hit a zombie in the face 5 times before it died, it shouldn't take that long to kill the weakest enemy in the game.

>To help shape and direct the existing narrative of System Shock, we've enlisted the help of Chris Avellone, who is best known for his work on a number of role-playing games, including; Fallout: New Vegas, Wasteland 2, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, Planescape: Torment, and Fallout 2. Chris will be working closely with Stephen Kick (our Creative Director) and Jason Fader (our Project Director and Senior Producer from Fallout: New Vegas) as well as several other key developers from Fallout: New Vegas to bring modern AAA quality into the world of System Shock.

Stephen Kick worked on: System SHock 2, Planetside 2, Strife: Veteran Edition, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Wizardry 6, 7, 8,Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures and some others.

Jason Fader: Fallout: New Vegas, World of Warcraft, ThreadSpace

Well, double red dots is clearly overcharged and the single green dot is obviously the weakest, but it's definitely not as clear as it should be.

Yes to both.

Upside: at least the former is still Terri Brosius.
Downside: the new music is uninspired generic classical strings, not electronica IN A CYBERPUNK GAME.

whens the last time you actually played System Shock 2

I dare you to go play it right now and get to like half way into the game and tell me she isn't cute around those last few segments where she completely detaches from you.

She multiple times goes back on insulting you and in a roundabout way says she likes you (and no not just as another pawn but as someone who resisted, has shown free will and potential but doesn't agree to her ideological view of muh man machine).

SHODAN is literally a cute tsundere.

The only real problem is it's NOT Scary.

I don't know there's something about the Pre-2003 Video Games that made the environments more terrifying. I breezed through Pre-Alpha Demo as well as Resident Evil 5's Prologue just fine. Give me an old game like Silent Hill 1 and I'm nervous.

Older games didn't have the graphical prowness we have today, I think in that way the graphics felt more dreamlike and surreal. I have an easier time getting immersed in a simpler looking game than I do something modern.

I disagree. Portal was a beta game, meant to be a throw away experiment and obviously wasn't designed to be at the forefront of anything but it did anyway with it's charm and puzzles. None of the System shocks have aged well at all and in fact their inventory system was too busy and messy, the plot kind of same in SS2. But go on keep to ur nostalgia googles. Portal didn't need to be the be all and end all. It's superior but not even trying and yet has a far bigger fan base. The last of Us was a masterpiece too but also had no fun in it at all and between playing an ass creed game or the last of us, Ass wins every time. Portal was adored by other companies too and has countless references in other games, so why does meme fame = bad? Nobody but the PC crowd will recall SS at all and this is the early 90s PC crowd where only people who knew how to do DOS could get it to work. You waifu is an old horse. oh and lego also inspired minecraft, are you going to say how great lego is?

This is me. Literally me. No other crew member can come close to relating to me like this. There is no way you can convince me this is not me. This crew member could not possibly be anymore me. It’s me, and nobody can convince me otherwise. If anyone approached me on the topic of this not possibly being me, then I immediately shut them down with overwhelming evidence that this crew member is me. This crew member is me, it is indisputable. Why anyone would try to argue that this crew member is not me is beyond me. If you held two Final Logs Entry of me and this crew member side by side, you’d see no difference. I can safely look at this crew member every day and say “Yup, that’s me”. I can practically see this crew member every time I look at myself in the mirror. I go outside and people stop me to comment how similar I look and act to this dead crew member. I chuckle softly as I’m assured everyday this crew member is me in every way. I can smile each time I get out of bed every morning knowing that I’ve found my identity with this crew member and I know my place in this kind of hell. It’s really quite funny how similar this crew member is to me, it’s almost like we’re identical twins. When I first saw this crew member, I had an existential crisis. What if this crew member was the real me and I was the fictional corpse. What if this crew member actual became aware of my existence? Did this character have the ability to become self aware itself?

Stephen Kick (of NightDive) went around and got a hold of them, not sure if he bought them outright or got a license but either way he can use it. He also worked out a deal with OtherSide for them to make System Shock 3.

The only genuinely unsettling thing in SS1 is the game over fmv where you get cortex reaver'd.

Mostly because of early 3DCG. God that shit's creepy.

Why does this shit have to be a fucking kickstarter I can't handle this
>>
>>343113137
By the time it's actually out you should have a better computer.

2017 my ass more like 2019.

WHY?! A fucking hedgefund startup company bought the license and is now starting a kickstarter?

Don't fall for this meme people. They don't need ANY money to finish their reboot. They're trying to milk you.

it won't make the stretchgoal

eh. have yet to get into system shock 2. the start of the game isn't interesting enough, doesn't drag the player into the game at all

It was more Die Hard in space than anything else.

It was just about a badass everyman trying to defeat a terrorist AI.

for what purpose

>>343112775
Honestly it's retarded, just like how you have to exactly click the keys on the keypad to open the door.
If they don't have a pop-up panel later in development with real mouse input it's gonna be shit, no way around that
>>
>>343101297
>The game has likely been financed
In before Deep Silver as publisher announced.

None of these devs could finance a game without a bigger budget, that's for sure.
>>
>>343104185
>RPG levelling with perks/skills

That's it I'm out. SS1 was an action game. The devs made a point to remove abstractions like stats and dice rolls to make the world more believable. SS2 threw in all these elements lifted from pen and paper RPGs and it makes me think these guys don't know what they're doing.

I wonder how they're even gonna handle the console versions.

To be fair, if it's anything like SS1, the gameplay HAS to be customizable.

You'll be able to turn off the shitty RPG mechanics that sucked so much ass in SS2, I hope, much like how you could turn off the story in the original game.

>>343104185

It's very obvious they're doing this for the people who love SS2, they don't care about those who love SS1 at all.

It has a smaller cult following than Vampire TMB and Zenimax owns the rights.

So somewhere between "When hell freezes over" and "Never ever." Maybe a spiritual successor one day.

Except they got Malba Tahan (who also did the mouselook mod) to finish SHLINK so the game can run natively, whereas SSP is a crappy DOSbox wrapper.
>>
>>343108849
System Shock 1 wasn't scary either. It literally played sci-fi action digitized music all the way through the game.
