Dark Dawn went through a lot of stories but one thing that never changed was the fact that it was the kids time to save the world. Having their parents all over the story would have ruined that.

Ruined what? A terrible plot made of fetch quests with X number of points of no return in a very limited world map? Even GS and TLA hid better that they were giant fetch quests and they had bigger worlds and more stuff to explore.

Actually their parents should have still been prominent because it was their unfinished business to begin. If dark dawn had a "villain" that was anybody other than Alex, you'd be right. but with they're being no reason why the parents can't help " (Age, sickness, etc. and especially absence) it just raises deeper questions. Plus meeting the random folks means you get to see why the the previous chose marry that person or how they got into that relationship to begin with and though irrelevant it's still nice to see and know about

- cutscenes go on forever because they couldn't afford an editor to cut out 85% of the superfluous dialogue
overall not bad. solid game and the sequel is just as good
just pretend the 3rd game doesn't exist
a video game you may or may not like, which is the answer to any question like this.
GS and TLA are super comfy. the battle system leaves a bit to be desired, it's rather generic and djinn, summons, and spamming attack are the only important offensive abilities. psynergy is really only useful for support. the soundtrack is great, lore is interesting, and the world well designed.

also, what happened to piers? he was the most interesting character for the little screen time he got due to being cuhrazy old and having a pirate ship.

No they didn't. When they talk to Tret he mentions how Rief and Amiti have some relation to Mia and when you mind read Amiti after the final boss he mentions that he feels some sort of connection with Alex.
