Who /i52500k/ here?

You didn't fall for the bottleneck meme, right lads?

My nigga, get them cheap used on eBay, and they can cope with pretty much anything at 60fps

I mean if that's your benchmark, then sure.

Hurray for cpu stagnation. I honestly mean that, now I only have to deal with jewish gpu manufacturures since my 4690k should last a long long time.
>>
Only got a i5 6600k because I've just moved from AMD and thought to get the latest. I'm glad the glorious Sandy Bridge still runs well
>>
>>343064143
I have a i5 3570k and it's doing the job
>>
>>343064143
I've been completely out of touch with cpu releases for the past many years. I bought a 3770k when it came out and haven't even thought about switching since then.

what exactly has been done since then? from quick googling it seems that a 300$ investment would get me roughly a 10% increase in single thread performance on a 4 year old cpu?

get your shit together CPU makers.
>>
>>343066515
thinking the same thing desu shouldnt we be moving into the 1080 144hz or 4k 60hz as the benchmark?

What exactly is the point of showing a a bunch of benchmark scores all capped to 60, what information as a consumer should we take from this?
>>
I had a 2500k 2 months ago, my cousin was going to sell his pc and i changed my 2500k for his 2600k without he knowing before the sell.

No regrets.

60 fps is unacceptable.

0.5% of PC owners own a 120/144hz screen.

Where i live one is like $2000 and i can't buy outside of my country because they will tax 100% of the value anyway.

Individual midrange cards can't do this unless your playing counter-strike, 1080/60fps is still what most people are trying to target.

I have some shitty dual core apu that can't fucking run this game it's the worst shit on the planet. I got gifted ds3 with the season pass and I just have some stupid hitbox glitch that's due to my apu that won't let me progress through the game, I still haven't been able to play despite having it since day 1. Blogposting here but holy fuck this thread made me remember this shit and i'm still mad

Fucking bullshit, 100% bullshit.

I got drops from 40 to 30 or even worst near Dragonslayer.

FUCKING BULLSHIT
>>
>>343067156

That's not really the point he was making. We could be getting much more valuable information but instead we're just getting capped 60's almost across the board, because pretty much any hardware can drive 1080p 60FPS. It's not about whether you have a 120Hz monitor, it's about seeing how much farther above 60FPS the hardware is capable of, just for the sake of knowing exactly what kind of power it has.

1080p and 4k will perform about the same regardless of CPU. resolution practically always scales with GPU alone.

60 fps vs 144 fps would be a good measurement though. but keep in mind that 60->120 is about the same performance improvement as 30->60 (in terms of milliseconds required for computation).
>>
>>343064143
i2500k at 4.3 here. Feels good.
>>
>>343068335
4k use less cpu.
>>
>>343068527
it does not. that doesn't even make sense. the cpu computations a game does don't go away just because you increase resolution.

in terms of total computation time % cpu time will shrink of course, because GPU does more % of work. but the total amount of time will not change.

AMD has been sucking ass so hard so long Intel doesn't really need to compete. The newer processors are slightly more power efficient, peak load is around 20% less for an i5 4690K vs. a 2500K, but that power consumption is not something you'll make for a looooong time on an upgrade in terms of cost savings.

But i've never played DS 3 and guessed the fps drop right, 30~40.

>Is the latest chipset worth it over the 2500k chipset? If I do a bit of video editing on the side is grabbing a low i7 worth it over a mid i5?
It'd depend on your last setup. In terms of video rendering, an SSD can help with I/O, CPU is a lot of it especially if you're rendering in 4K, increased memory speed can help if you're not running dual channel or don't have higher speed DDR3. A speccy would help.

More threads on the i7 would likely help especially with 4K rendering, but individual benchmarks on this would probably be helpful to get an apples to apples comparison.
>>
>>343069347
Bigger question is. Is it worth the 400$+ for that much of a performance gain?
>>
>>343069347
Yeah, but it's a cost benefit formula. see >>343069820
>>
>>343069820
It's not really a $400+ for that much. Processor is $350 but it'll use a new socket, meaning new motherboard. New motherboard with new chipset on Skylake may mean DDR4 (depends on the motherboard) which may necessitate brand new memory. Then if your drive is not up to snuff you may need to upgrade that, GPU too. If you want to install Windows 7 and don't already have an optical drive, you need to buy one (this is pretty cheap but it's another thing) as Skylake doesn't support USB drive media for installing Windows 7.

It's probably more like $600-$1000 to do the upgrade depending on the mobo and processor and other components that need to be upgraded.
>>
>>343069748
>>343069820
>>343070147
Literally running a Core 2 Duo, so would have to get virtually new everything, hence the rather vague question initially. Grabbing an SSD ages helped keep the crappy rig alive for another 1-2 years or so.
>>
>>343069328
whats worse is that I can probably get a much bigger performance increase by just buying a fat cooler and overclocking.
>>
>>343067336
because they only test the first area
ds3 is badly optimized on both pc and consoles, you'll see a few drops even on 980+i7
>>
>>343070420
Yeah anon, I just upgraded from a Core 2 Duo machine built December 2007 to a Skylake i5 with 16GB DDR4 and it's night and day. It's awesome for gaming (I only do at 1080P though) and everyday tasks... don't do video rendering myself.

Look at Logical increments, if there's a micro center anywhere near you the mobo/CPU deals can be too good to pass up.

Spent around ~$800 for a midrange i5, mobo, new RAM, new graphics card, new PSU, used existing optical drive, case, and SSD and it's amazing.
>>
>>343067785
No, this is a test for cpus so they give it top tier hardware otherwise.

i changed from

main reason i got an i7 is for rendering because all of my income comes from photoshop and eloboosting. it feels so nice to not play everything on low
>>
>>343072548
I have the same set up and I'm also fine, though the only reason I got the 6300 was because it was cheap. I'm also too poor to afford a decent monitor so I'm using a 720p TV anyway which makes it easy to max shit.

I don't know how anyone can stand playing video games on less than 32"
>>
>>343073367
>R9 390

If I already have 16gbs of ddr3 paired with a phenom x4 925, would picking up a used 2500 or 3570 with a motherboard be a cheap way to upgrade without worrying about ddr4 and needing the latest and greatest? Using a 1080p monitor and a gtx 960.
