Can someone tell me how did youtube gaming fail? How did it lose to a company that does this kind of shit?
I'd genuinely like to stream on twitch but 4 things stop me.
Fear of no viewers
Hatred of the whole concept of making money from it
Boob Streamers
Time
Whenever I visit the site I just turn chat off because every chat I've seen before I did that was a toxic hell hole
>toxic
kill yourself and crawl back to r eddit

Nobody wants to watch you play videogames, and realizing that is step 1 in becoming part of the solution.
Youtube gaming failed because it decided to show up to the party 4 hours late.
>>343058713
It was a failure since the beginning. It's a google product so... it was pure shit even before day 1.
From what I've seen don't streamers only read comments from people who give them donations? So this will basically give viewers a way to throw away their money while still being ignored.
>microtransactions for twitch
>>343058713
So this shit is basically just donations straight through Twitch, right?
>>343058713
Twitch was already established and the big streamers didn't want to and have no reason to move to youtube gaming.
>>343061405
Basically
>>343060915

You're not making sense.
lmao isn't this like the token systems on camwhore sites
>>343061541
Enjoying your google+ account I see. Keep crying and trying.
Twitch was there first.
If Google wants YouTube gaming to succeed, they can do what own3d try to do and pay top streamers. It kinda worked, except that own3d ran out of money.
Wow, that's really fucking stupid.
>>343061914
What in the fuck.Jesus fucking christ. This is cancer in the most pure form.
>>343061405
They have been trying for years to get a piece of all those donations streamers get.
The Streamer can still decide if he wants to enable it. Ive yet to see one who has.

>set up my twitch stream because it looks fun to stream vidya for others
>it's uncomfortable as fuck
I just want to play videogames, having to worry about being entertaining and not focusing on the game sucks.
The sad part of this is it will work and it wil make gorillions for twitch because people are just this loose and this stupid with their money
I don't even like twitch but I'm glad that YouTube finally has some kind of competition.

if you use a facecam or do blogshit you're a cancer redditor and should seriously kill yourself.
longplays are the only acceptable form of streaming unless you are doing walkthrough/guides or are top 1% mmr
It still kills me that a lot of top streamers fake donations (or at least did when they started).

They didn't become huge by making quality, but quantity.
>>343062590
>hating on skeletons
Get a load of this meatbag.
YouTube streaming is actually better than twitch... for the viewers. It has more options like live rewind and higher stream quality options without needing to be a top streamer but these are only beneficial to watchers.
Twitch allows streamers to be much more Jew and get lots of money which is all they care about.
>>343062595
Donations are 100% to the streamer.
This is just a way to incentivize donations for Twitch.
>>343062458

I'm sure they're just trying to pick up those titty bucks because it keeps putting whores with boob cameras in my "recommended viewing" even though I mostly only watch no commentary rhythm game streams.
>>343062595

I only stream for friends, but I've noticed that Youtube is much better, at least in my case. Whenever I try streaming on Twitch my stream starts lagging/freezing, which doesn't happen on youtube. And I have a good internet connection so the problem can't be on my end. I've also seen people complaining about Twitch servers and how they're shit especially if you're not a top streamer like you've said. I also remember Twitch restricting quality options for streamers unless you're famous. Dunno if they've changed it.
>>343062904

Because it's less transparent and idiots get to feel special with their emoticons/badges.
>>343062904
cause twitch get a cut from those donations
>>343062904
I'm sure there's some sort of logic behind special currency on websites. Probably to incentivize the focus of money in their circle only.
They'll roll out the update that lets you buy channel support with it, then they'll try to slowly phase out the other options, all while putting Twitch cards up on store shelves.
>>343063321
Nigga it wont
The reason people donate is for the callouts.
>>343058713
>Hatred of the whole concept of making money from it
lol why, imagine making money by doing somthing you like, you dont have to become an obnoxious cunt or a boob streamer or whatever
in fact, you just shouldn't think about that in the first place, autist
If we're gonna complain about streamers, I've got a gripe I noticed yesterday.
There's one I follow on twitter, solely for the selfies she posts. She was stuck at the DMV for 5 hours and proclaimed
>No stream tonight, too tired
She does this for a living, being "too tired" from doing literally nothing fucking offends me.
>>343058713
google can be very dense/arrogant sometimes. Just because they're google they think they can shunt something else and replace an established service. It's amusing though, in their desperation to be the "next facebook" or "next twitch" they've missed the boat on what they should have been doing: competing with amazon.
Also seriously everything youtube-related they put out is trash. No, I don't want shitty youtube red for 99 cents. I don't want it for free.
>>343061405
yes.
i wouldn't be surprised if eventually they add a "feature" that only allows donations through them, and actively bans all outside donations.
also, can't donate unless a minimum number of bits is reached. sounds stupid, right? it will happen. just watch.
not to mention this whole thing cheapens Twitch since it is now associated with camwhore sites.

Why the fuck would any streamer sign up to this? At least when someone donates 5 dollars, it's 5 dollars entering into the paypal system and getting effected.
This token shit is some currency that Twitch can just arbitrarily devalue whenever they feel like it, especially due to their being price breaks on buying tokens.

The only streamers that currently have it enabled are the ones that make a shitload of money from Twitch either way so they just don't really care.

>>343058713

Hey StalkerUKCG, if you are going to post on NeoGAF and on /v/ at the same time at least change what you write so we can't tie you back to a place that is easily hated here - and the fact that mods on Neogaf can find this post and potentially ban you. I still remember watching that Trials stream where the dev team was watching his livestream. Man was struggling at some level and the level creator tweeted him saying he's pretty bad or something (it was meant to be as a joke because he didn't outright say he's shit), but Man took an offense to that and went on a rant and started swearing at that dev for like half an hour. Even when the dev said it was a joke and apologized, Man was still pissed.

There's some truth to this statement. I'd argue that /v/ isn't as bad though. There is usually a majority opinion but you can always find dissenting ones as well. On the other hand I've seen gaf threads where dissenting opinions are outright permabanned for being problematic. That's clearly a whole different level of bullshit. Maybe it's gotten better but I doubt it. I joined in 2008 but left for good once it embraced that political horseshit.

Google was a day late and a dollar short. The company is too big to be nimble, and like Microsoft, there's infighting over politics and competing initiatives. Sometimes they buy companies out for billions and STILL can't meaningfully iterate (see their purchase of Nest, which hasn't come out with a new product since they were acquired by Google).
They are basically a giant that can impose chrome to control certain aspects of the web but not meaningfully compete on new services.

It's fucking ridiculous why so many people like him and how he regularly pulls in 30k viewers a day.
How do I get more viewers?
What is the best game to get new fans interested in your stream?
Shit like league or HS is pretty much impossible because you have to scroll past 4-5 pages just to see the 1-3 viewer streamers and no one will do that.

Dunno. I honestly think the market is over-saturated. You need to find some niche that attracts a specific group of people but I'm sure you know that already as a lot of people are trying to do the exact same thing.
I honestly don't care for Twitch, I don't watch any streams either unless it's Bisquit showing some programming shit.
I will use YouTube's streaming shit though, they offer far better upper limits and quality for streaming than Twitch and even transcode it for you which is great. Twitch can handle shit unless you're popular or want to pay.
>>343066820

For some reason it has become flavor of the month to be as super progressive as possible, it just feels so cheap to see so many people complain why game companies are essentially not pandering more? >>343066969
You're the one who called him out for browsing neogaf originally dipshit. Here you dropped something!
>>343058713
>Can someone tell me how did youtube gaming fail?
It didn't and it's where the money is at. When you go by revenue for video game related content Youtube is far ahead.
You suffer from the misguided notion that live streaming is how people make a lot of money (and as such have lots of views) when in reality pre-recorded content is the main cash cow. I believe it was a 1:5 ratio last I read anything about it.
The only reason twitch is being commonly referenced is that for amtateurs there's no compeition in the form of other media content people might want to view instead. On twitch the entire site funnels its users into a certain stream they then watch and if a streamer is on top of the page he's bound to stay on top of the page while on youtube there's a ton of video content from all interests a person could have that is fed to users with rather advanced algorithms. That means on Youtube someone might get sidetracked by funny videos or music where on twitch they are stuck watching other streamers.
If twitch streams do not up their production value and issue more quality content then in the long run they'll lose to other forms of more entertaining and better condensed content. It's not fun watching someone play a medicore game while desperately trying to be funny when you could watch a (well) scriped and (well) edited 20 minute video instead and then hop to the next one. This, however, is an industry concern and you as user don't have to worry about it.
>>343064939

>It's not fun watching someone play a medicore game while desperately trying to be funny when you could watch a (well) scriped and (well) edited 20 minute video instead and then hop to the next one.
You miss the point of Twitch.
The reason why streamers are so popular there is because they interact with their audience. Kids and teenagers get to 'talk' to their favourite streamers and pretend that they are their friends, which is something you can't replicate in pre-recorded Youtube videos. Youtube may make more money in the long run, but livestreaming will always be profitable for a certain group.
Do you ever watch Summit1G or Lirik's streams? They get hundreds of donations a day with messages like
>My dog died and I had a shitty day. Glad you're here to cheer me up!
>Don't feel bad man, you're my hero. Have this $50 and keep entertaining thousands of people!
>Hey I'm gonna be in your city next week. Wanna hang out for a bit? I'd love that so much!
Like, these kids literally think streamers are their friends and these streamers act friendly with terms like 'bro' just to keep the donations rolling in.
>>343067716
I wonder if those are really kids and not just lonely nerds looking for social interaction.
Either way, they seem to do a good job in exploiting these retards.
>>343067850
I remember reading an article somewhere saying the average age on Twitch was higher than Youtube, so probably lonely teenagers and young adults like you and me.
>Either way, they seem to do a good job in exploiting these retards.
Do they ever. They always act like they're your friend, but most of them have submode on 24/7 so that you can't even talk to them if you don't subscribe. Some people like Lirik literally don't even respond to chat except to get game tips or insult you, so you have to donate for them to respond. I remember the other month seeing someone donate to Lirik going
>My dad died yesterday from cancer, I don't know what I'd do without you
So Lirik says some generic shit like "my condolences man cheer up". Then the guy donates another $50 just because Lirik acted nice to him.
It's fucking disgusting.

>Fear of no viewers
That's literally something you have to deal with regardless of the site you're on. You just play for a couple months and slowly amass a userbase, or you do it as a side thing tied to a Youtube account and hope both take off and people like what you do, hell, you can even advertise yourself to
>Hatred of the whole concept of making money from it
So do it on the side. Who in the world is saying you have to play 24/7 and make it your job when you can easily just stream whatever you're playing whenever you normally play and play it like you normally do anyway, you just have to be at least active a couple times a week for a decent amount of time to make anything out of it if you actually plan to have any sort of viewerbase.
>Boob Streamers
How does this affect you? No seriously, how does this affect you? No one is forcing you to watch Tits McGee and her nipples of erection if you don't want to.
>Time
Again, if you want a viewerbase or any money in the slightest this is something you have to deal with. You can stream whenever you want, a bunch of speedrunners do this for example and very few have actual set schedules, but they rack in several hundred people most of the time.
and if you hate the way chats become cancerous you literally have power at your hands to quell all that kind of discussion if you want. The only time you become a meme chat is if you let it become a meme chat. You can even globally disable emotes if you want so you don't have to see shit like EleGiggle, FrankerZ, or Kappa unless you want to.

>For some reason it has become flavor of the month to be as super progressive as possible
It is difficult for me to figure this out. I suppose the highly active banning of dissenting views and general curation of opinion has created a warped social dynamic. The normal person really cannot post anymore in this environment. I think it may have become a "progressive arms race", where people support/endorse these opinions in an attempt to gain social standing on the forum, mixed with a healthy number of cult-like individuals that the environment has selected to be able to post a lot.
>It's fucking stupid, it's painful to read anything anyone posts there anymore.
That's what broke the habit for me. Going there was physically taxing.
The only twitch channel I watch regularly is a tournament player that primarily interacts with viewers by answering mechanics questions and talking through the meta when people ask, but otherwise talks about what choices he's making in the game and why. Watching his stream is like getting a clinic in how to play the game competitively.
I remember when there were more streamers on twitch like this, but his viewer numbers are dwarfed by boobystreamers and loudmouths.
>>343068667
Also the forum is heavily biased against people who hold certain values. It is very antagonistic against people who highly prize accuracy and honesty.
>>343067716
>The reason why streamers are so popular there is because they interact with their audience.
This isn't entirely true and has already been subject of various studies. It's not the actual interaction, it's the sense of affirmation and belonging users seek.
Human beings seek social approval and in current times this comes in the form of digital interaction in chats or in forums with upvotes or someone commenting on one's views positively.
The issue with thoes mediums is the cognitive disconnect you experience when reading - it's not the same as hearing a human voice and seeing a human face addressing you directly. On a side-note, this approval-seeking is also why encouragement in the workplace is essential to enhance productivity, loyality and mental stability/health of employees.
You are correct in assessing that people donating to streams to get attention essentially buy affection and approval, in particularly approval in front of a crowd that they couldn't convince by themselves but often it comes with the downside of quickly realizing that it's shortlived and empty/vain, enhancing feeling of depression and loneliness when not being mentioned on a stream, in particulalry for kids. This is similar to rich kids in real life buying "friendship" - it has detrimental effects that make it a bad idea in the long run.
This builds or rather enhances social pressue within (young) people and stands in stark contrast to watching an enjoyable, good spirited narrative of someone playing (seemingly) happily along on Youtube.
This will in the long run lead to more people trying, for lack of a better expression, to get their heart mended by sources outside of twitch - such as Youtube or other gaming communities.
>twitch is more about making money for lazy shits that don't want to 9 to 5 than it is about video games
>>343069010
>This will in the long run lead to more people trying, for lack of a better expression, to get their heart mended by sources outside of twitch - such as Youtube or other gaming communities.
I disagree. As you said Youtube cannot replace the fundamental desire of approval that Twitch and its communities/streamers can give. Youtube is an isolated experience that you can only enjoy with friends or sharing the videos through social media - this means nothing if you are already lacking in friends or people who will read your tweets/posts/whatever.
Perhaps as people grow up they'll move away from Twitch into healthier alternatives, but Youtube won't be a replacement nor would it even compete with what Twitch offers.

>I don't consider that valid for this "line of "work""
If you've never experienced what he's saying then you won't really understand it so I'll try and explain it.
Imagine you have loads and loads of free time starting now. Your first handful of weeks are bliss, it's the same feeling you have when you take a week with vacation days or you get a reasonable length of time off just for yourself and you end up doing what you want for fun. You binge on everything you've missed, you catch up on your games and shows though you still have many things to clear. So now comes let's say week eight of this, you're not allowed to go outside that often because that would take you away from the games.
You've got several games you want to play but don't really want to play on your backlog, you've played through most of the games you didn't manage to due to lack of time that you really wanted to. Now, while you're feeling like you just don't want to play video games anymore I'm going to tell you you have to pick a game out of that backlog and play it whether you like it or not. Now do it again and again and again and again. Then you get a single new game every once in a blue moon but you can't force yourself to actually play it because you are just mentally drained from playing the last 10 games to completion in such a short timespan. Now imagine it's your job to play these video games and act like you're having fun doing it.
TL;DR - Look at your huge list of Steam games, look at your backlog, now try and force yourself to play games from your backlog in that Steam list when you want to play literally anything else but that backlog game.
Alternatively, go pirate a bunch of games, choose one that you kind of want to play but don't really and beat it completely without dropping it. It's that feeling you get where you're two hours in and you want to die because you have so many games you want to play but you don't want to play them at the same time.
>>343067354
>ROFL
>>343070143
You don't even need this long explanation.
Anyone who has turned their hobby into an 8-5 job would know why it's draining.
>>343068667
Pretty much. I really don't care if you make a game with a white, black, asian, gay, whatever character as long as you do it right and it doesn't feel like you are pandering to a certain group because "IT'S 2016 AND WE NEED TO BE PROGRESSIVE." It becomes cheap and it throws me out of the game world the devs have created because CEO Bob was told by shareholders he needs to be more inclusive, and has he "seen the news lately"?
The only thing I miss are the sub-communities where the garbage posters stay. The Steam community and others weren't bad, and people actually had normal discussions as mods usually stay out of them.
>>343068076
True but I'll take that risk.
Is talking to other streamers a good way to get followers?Because I feel it would just end up being "hey man check me out sometime" or "follow for follow?"
>>343070651
Typo: Where the garbage posters stay away from.
What the shit does this actually do? Is it the virtual equivalent of throwing coins into a street performer's hat?
>>343070535
Yeah, but he just outright didn't get what mental fatigue was like and how it wasn't a valid excuse when it's most certainly a valid excuse. I'm not a streamer nor a NEET but I have loads of free time due to certain circumstances and the last thing I want to do is play games from my backlog or even watch shows from my backlog. I'm lucky if I watch an episode of anything I like every week or two or play a game properly every week.
Streamers have it way worse than this since they have to actually do it or they don't get to eat, you basically just make yourself hate what you love but force yourself to do it anyway.
Instead of nonstop complaining, let's list off some Good streams, shall we? I'm talking about channels that respect the viewer and aren't just 20-something whores begging for money

they're only thinking about the casters and themselves. little to no benefit for the viewers.
>>343070805
Basically, instead of donating to the streamer's paypall, which Twitch gets no cut off, now you can donate using this, so Twitch gets a percentage of it. Which means that soon they'll ban direct donations

This. What the fuck happened to dan? He used to be based, edgy but didn't care. Now all he does is spout shitty trump jokes and sellout to terrible game companies. He's also gotten fat as fuck and doesn't seem to understand the basic rules of calories in/out.
I was subbed to him for almost 2 years, before I turned into his stream and asked myself, what the fuck did I find entertaining about this guy. So sad.
>>343070651
Pandering is pretty dishonest, and it becomes more about forcing a view or wanking off a group of people. Ironically in this situation the gay/trans/whatever character in question is just used as a disposable tool to accomplish this which is very "unprogressive"
I had noticed that sub-communities were better as well. My idea is that the barrier to entry (you generally have to play the fucking game) helps keep dumbasses out. The main forum is too easy. You can just read kotaku, post nonsense, and never touch a game. Frankly I doubt many of these people do, they're just in it for the political gaming commentary.
>>343071238
more like twitch twitch runs the performance venue and takes a cut because they are providing the means for the entertainer to perform.
>>343058713
This would be a good feature if Twitch didn't take a 30% cut.
Just like subscriptions where they take a 50% cut. Fucking mega jews, that's the kind of rake even loansharks would scoff at.
>>343071704
At least some of them get used to it or treat it as "That thing you have to do" and separate it from actually enjoying stuff, or they find the little things they enjoy. Clintstevens is an example, he plays(Or played) OoT for months day after day and it didn't drive him mad, he just said he hated and liked certain parts and then the stuff at the end of his stream was to unwind.
But yeah, that fatigue is absolutely brutal, especially since it's extremely hard to shake outside of just going cold turkey on everything you love for a couple months.
>>343071768
>What the fuck happened to dan?
Money, dude. Him joining that n3dfusion deal was the catalyst to his change. Compare the last 2 horror months, this last one was about getting as many subs as possible, with him locking chat when live, while the previous one was about fun.
>>343072060
>tfw I fell for the "I will always play games for fun" meme
The only type of stream that gets viewers without trying is titty streamers.
If you want views as a guy or a girl who isn't camwhoring, you need to be actually good at a video game, that game has to be popular AND you have to have an amicable personality.
>>343071768
It's called money.
Most of the really popular streamers you see right now, they started off meager and humble, probably back on Justintv. They understood how to build a community of fellow gamers that just wanted to hang out, talk, and check out the newest games together. Back then, it was much simpler -- you streamed for the fun of it. Even with jtv's partnership program, all you got was piddly ad revenue. But when people started to become ok with direct donations, that's when it all changed. Guys who were once average joe nerds began to transform into celebrities, sometimes very quickly. Money and fame can change one's personality, fast. This applies to Dan, to Lirik, to MvG, to pretty much everyone on the top. He will never, and I repeat NEVER, return to the way he was before, so you may as well jump ship now and find a new person to watch.
Twitch is all about money now, for those streamers. That is all. You aren't their friend, you are a source of income. Just another number in their thousands of viewers. You are completely replaceable and he won't think twice about it. Either join the echo chamber, or get banned.
>>343072234
> tfw I can't even have fun with games anymore
i used to enjoy streaming and games but that died a few years ago
>>343072006
The end goal for every streamer (imo) is to be able to stream whatever game you want and still draw in your regular crowd. People like Lirik who can play anything and still get $$$ have it easier since it's harder to for them to get burned out. When you're stuck playing Mario Maker for months on end though, you'd probably want to kill yourself.
>>343072060
>with him locking chat when live,
I tend to notice that only the most pretentious streamers force sub-only mode instead of just using slow-mode. Sad to see Dan fall so low. Seems like it was only yesterday when I was watching his 2013 Halloween month.
>>343072448
Personally even if I have a variety of games to play I still get burned out constantly. My way of doing stuff for the past 10 years or so is literally to binge a game for like a week and do nothing video game related outside of like shitty casual games to pass the time for the three weeks after. I just can't juggle all the games and absorb them or have fun with them man, I don't see how others do it.
>>343064553
I've never understood what made the really popular streamers popular to begin with. Is it just longevity?
When I see a stream, if ever, they seem rather plain and uninteresting. Makes me wonder why people keep donating to them.
>>343072448
It's pretty unbelievable that Lirik gets 30k viewers no matter which piece of shit game he streams. I've never understood what his appeal is. Have watched him a couple of time recently and I just find him dry. I guess the age group of his subs is closer to 14-16 or something.
>>343072656
I'm the same way. I've tried many times to actively play multiple games. I have friends who just jump in and out of many games, including mmos and shooters etc, meanwhile I can't keep myself interested in more than one game at a time.
>>343062904
It's basically guaranteed because the bits are nonrefundable because they're too many memesters who donate $1000+ to see the streamer flip out and then they revoke it minutes later saying "it was a mistake" or "lol i troll u"Also Twitch is a business, and a business' goal is to make profits.
>>343070941
Are you 15?
>>343072867
Actually he mentioned on his stream previously that the avg age was in the early 20's. I also think the appeal of him is he is like a normal nerdy dude you would chill with, I can see the appeal, but I guess he is too big to fail at this point - barring he doesn't do anything ridiculous retarded. I mean the dude makes $400,000 after taxes, he is set for life even if Twitch somehow falls through.

You don't have to chase the most popular flavor of the month games or pander for subs, if it's something you'd enjoy, why not?
I always seem to be alone in thinking that emoticons lower the intelligence of a chat. Why don't people want pure text like IRC? Where it requires actual effort to express yourself.

>It costs $308 for 25,000 bits
GOOD GOY, EARN THAT BADGE
>>343075256
Why does the streamer want them? Can the streamer convert it into cash or something?
>>343061914
I remember back when the internet was still considered "geek territory" normalfags watched TV shows with a chat and some kind of shitty host. Writing messages into the chat using text messaging cost $1/message and I thought that was fucking ridiculous and what kind of an idiot would pay a dollar for just one line of text.
And now it's apparently normal to drop dozens if not hundreds of dollars on some rotating polygons.
>>343058713
Failure of advertising? I hardly knew that Youtube Gaming existed. There doesn't seem to be any way to access it from the normal Youtube homepage or anything
>>343075339
yes
>>343075339
yes, they can. but twitch takes ~30% cut
>>343075339
Yes, but in the current status quo Streamers drop a paypal lnik and keep like 99% of the donation money (minus Paypals small cut)
With this new system, Twitch will shave off a good 25%+ off the money for themselves, they take 50% of subscription money.
This is just a ploy to get their fingers into donations now.
>>343075345
>And now it's apparently normal to drop dozens if not hundreds of dollars on some rotating polygons
You mean like video gamesl, that people have been buying since Pong?
>>343075010
>thing you want is $12 in fake money
>can only get $10/$25/$60 increments
retards will defend this saying now they have extra for if they want something else, not realizing they'll always have a lingering extra balance they can't spend.
>Now in addition to "HAY BUTTDOCTOR82 THANKS FOR SUBSCRIBING I REALLY APPRECIATE IT" you can hear "THANKS FOR THE BITS RUMPLORD_ :-)"
What the fuck is wrong with people?
>>343073540
>witwix
what's it like being a faggot cuck
>>343075509
What the fuck are you talking about? Since when are these video games?
>>343075010
No that's stupid, its so people will have to buy more cards of imaginary points when they're something like $2 short
>oh I only have 500 points and this costs 800
>what are my options
>oh I can only buy $5, 10 or 25
>>343073540
Speaking of Bahroo, how the fuck did KingGothalion end up in the Bits beta but Bashroo didn't?
Gothalion is literally just a low budget Bahroo, both hit it big with a shitload of Borderlands play, switched off into other similar loot shooters like Destiny and are both sort of just drifting until the next release in the genre.
>>343073217
>Houston will never have established fiber lines because it's basically a swamp and the ground is ridiculously unstable
Just end my life.
>>343075597
I just interpret it as thing I want is now $25, it's probably not worth that much so I just don't buy it.
>>343058713
It was first.
It's a long-running well-established fact in the tech industry that being first is more important then being good.
>>343075906
who the fucks now, i remember that he was skeptical about it in richard_hammer chat, saying: 'it's basically twitch taking a cut from streamers donations'
>>343075806
Video games are polygons, moron.
You just said that it's, "apparently normal to drop dozens if not hundreds of dollars on some rotating polygons".
You just described every game ever created. If you hate these, then you hate every video game.
>Twitch takes 30%
>Paypal takes 2.9% + $0.30
2.9% vs 30%
What a fucking joke. But they're paying streamers to endorse it so dumb kids will buy into it.
>>343075318
ONE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED THIRTY TWO UNITED STATES DOLLARS TO GET A CHAT BADGE.
>>343076148
Oh I see, you are just pretending to be retarded.
>>343076287
Tell me right here, right now that video games aren't polygons.
You can't because THEY FUCKING ARE.
>>343076016

>>343076148
If you like chocolate you also like shit because both are brown.
>>343076191
Ellohimo or w/e his name is said that bits give him more money because paypal takes like 34% most of the time unless the donation amount is high then they take less
but yeah hes basically shilling because he was on of the first ones to get to test it out.
twitch just wanted to tap into the free revenue
>>343061914
>12% discount
fucking bought instantly
youtube gaming didn't even try to compete. They just released it and did nothing else.
They didn't try to contact popular streamers to stream for them, they didn't market themselves AT ALL.
>>343076328
Count me the polygons in this video game, nerd
>>343076402
That doesn't relate in any way.
He suggested that it's absurd for people to pay for rotating polygons, which is exactly what video games are.
>>343062595
Twitch takes a cut instead of paypal
and most streamers don't even read the bit messages
so you are basically double cucking yourself
>>343076438
>because paypal takes like 34% most of the time unless the donation amount is high
Buuuuuuuuuuullshit, don't listen to the twitch goy.
I used to make custom painted guitar picks and my average paypal payment was between $2-5 and it was a 2.9% cut
>watching people play video games
>paying money so that some lardass who plays videogames for a living might notice your comment in the chat
>>343058713
Nobody gives a shit about video games during streams, what matters is your irl stories while you pretend the crowd is close a friend of yours or you being a girl and do the same but also showing off.
>>343076519
No, the emotes are rotating polygons, video games have polygons just as one of the building blocks.
I mean saying you hate video games if you hate paying for getting to see a few polygons is like saying you must hate a luxury meal if you hate paying $60 for one grain of rice.
>>343067548
it's exactly like this in submode-only streams
>>343074441
> I still think the guy viewbotted his own stream until at least 75% of those numbers became genuine.
That's what every streamer does nowadays, I'm not even kidding.
BeyondTheSummit did a stream yesterday with over 4k people watching, the chat was COMPLETELY dead except for people asking what's happening and then talking about bots. Even the "big" streamers are using a lots and lots of bots still.
>>343076567
Yeah i know paypal takes 30 cents off the dollar and then a down scalling percentage depending on how high the donation is
i was just repeating what he says
>>343076438
>because paypal takes like 34% most of the time
But that's bullshit. It's 2.9% for everything, that's how Paypal has always worked. Paypal isn't some scummy donation service, they charge the same rake for everything.
The only thing that might take an additional rake is Twitch Alerts, but there's no way that's 27% or no one would use it.
I hope these shortsighted retards got paid enough by Twitch to offset how much they're going to lose on the rake. Protip: they won't.
>>343058713

It sucks that you can't stream something popular because you'll just get pushed to the bottom of matter how good or entertaining you are because 3 popular guys are playing the same thing.
>>343058713
The upcoming "conversation" will be hilarious
>H-hey guys, even though you don't have to donate, but if you do it in the form of donations and not cheering, this way is, emm, m-more fun! Yaaay!
>>343076959
That's basically what Twitch is. The top 1% streamers are all pros and old personalities but the meat and potatoes are all titty streamers.

In fact this is one of the reasons they've stayed so damn successful, they don't jew low earners, and they don't go crazy jew on massive earners.
>>343058713
>>343061914
I can't wait for streamers to have in their homepage a "menu" of stuff they will do if donated x bits.
If that hasn't happened already.
>>343077249
They were just as bad. They closed because they were getting sued over how much money they owed to streamers.
>>343064840

>>343058713
I don't understand why people have such a hateboner for Twitch. I understand that people treat it more like watching a trained animal at the zoo, but I just like watching video games played by someone fairly competent when I don't feel like playing myself, or when I just can't.
Yeah, features like this are jewish as fuck but who cares? Paying is rarely mandatory.
>>343077416
All of the "personality" and "variety" streams are shit. Every single one. If you want an ounce of integrity, look at speedrunners and some pros.
>>343062595
The business of fake currency isn't new, people feel more relieved with themselves when they buy shit with monopoly money instead of thinking "fuck I just spent 3 bucks to unlock this useless thing on a videogame".
The fact real money equals to 10 times the fake currency is part of the strategy too, so it feels you're buying a lot while you're not.
>>343077652
>If you want an ounce of integrity, look at speedrunners
>>343076191
the thing i hate about it is the lack of transparency.
they don't state how much streamers get. they likely all get different contracts. some may get more, some less, which is fucked in itself.
secondly, it makes spending money easier without seeing what you get. it brings down the quality of streams because now in addition to subs and regular donations, they have to callout bit donations now too.
thirdly, what's to stop twitch from implementing a "you must have X bits to chat" type of thing? they have no competition.
overall, the only people who benefit are streamers and twitch. viewers get fucked.
>>343077416
It's just part of the Three P's of top streamers. Personality, Professional, Pussy. One of these is the reason anyone makes it big on twitch.
The ones that make it on personality are often really shit, because their personality that draws tends to be the type that is popular among youtube teens, ie PewDiePie or Markiplier type.
If you want enter entertainment, go for the professional side, either competitive or top speedrunners, they tend to be the far more generally entertaining streamers because their streaming isn't just about their personality being the main entertainment, their high level gameplay is the main draw.
>>343077446
It didn't and it's still doesn't. It was pretty good for a few years until google decided that it wants to give everyone a partnered status. With that CPM plummeted down and everly increasing rules over copyrighted content only makes it worse for small producers to make money. Google is also displeased because they want to challenge hollywood and big TV companies with YT to get even more ad revenue from bigger companies, but they simply can't encourage actual good content outside of gaming.
>>343077630

Okay I think a lot of you guys don't understand why this would be so popular or better then regular donations. From a streamers perspective here you go:
Through donation sites and buttons on a twitch page they take effort to set up and run to have that shit played on screen. They also sometimes crash and break. The other issue with those buttons is they only accept limited types of currency. You cannot donate using like your direct card if you wanted.
PayPal also does take a cut and I've personally seen 30c on 5$ taken and it gets lower the higher the donation. The other problem with PayPal is chargebacks. People will donate high amounts then a month later request it back which charges you a fee at that point and it fucking sucks. So to avoid chargebacks your money has to limbo for 3-9 months depending on the amount. If you spend that or deposit it in your actual bank and they request it back you get hit with the fee.
So basically this process is beneficial to each party because twitch accepted alternate payment methods and pays the steamer in a safer manner. I personally don't see an issue with it but it does look like camwhore sites and encourages the blight on twitch.
>>343073395
But how did they get the viewers in the first place? Did you ever try streaming? Your stream will appear at the bottom of the list and literally NO one will scroll all the way down let alone click on some person that doesn't have huge revealed breasts. How did they do it? Did they start with youtube and then switch to twitch with an already established fanbase or did they stream niche games?
>>343064323
They want to expand but they aren't allowed by the government to do so.
>>343081367
Actually there are People who only scroll to the bottom to watch more comfy streams. Always just act the same and don't look at your active view number. Constantly talk and someone is bound to talk back. Some do switch from other platforms though.
>>343081343
for twitch and streamers it's great.
viewers? nope. fuck that. i'm not paying more money for a "currency" with variable rates per streamer. now i have to pay $1.40 to give you $1. where is the sense in that, and what benefits do i get besides a shitty chat badge?
streamers love it. more money because people can buy bits instantly and spend them instantly without really knowing how much money they have spent.
>>343077928
>they have to callout bit donations now too.
Nobody has to call anything out. They do if they want the 12 year olds think they're special when their so called friend reads their wacky message. Too bad nobody does that besides I suppose Kripp with only subs which started off a joke into "oh shit I'm getting more money this way!"
They just looked at your typical cam site and thought
>Yo this would be the way to include donations
I thought Amazon was suppose to save Twitch, not make it worse than it was.
>>343081367
>Your stream will appear at the bottom of the list and literally NO one will scroll all the way down

>>343081847
no, they don't have to. if they don't - what's the point? people donate money so streamers pay attention to their message.
if they don't call it out, they risk losing other people donating because of it.
>>343081367
You either get viewers by going to an event (Any GDQ) or playing a newly released game, or getting lucky and getting invited to a highly anticipated Beta and being good at it.
The last thing happened to A_Seagull, that overwatch streamer who had maybe 100 viewers at the very most before Blizzard gave him good graces and invited him to the Overwatch Closed Beta. Now he can easily get 4,000 viewers every time he streams Overwatch.

>>343081821
Well as my part says the only benefit to normal people is the alternative payment methods that the donate button doesn't offer. That and for children they are going to be able to have set amounts to donate based upon what their parents put on there. I bet anything gift cards are going to be sold in stores for this and kids will request that shit for birthdays/Christmas. That's the sad truth of it.
>>343074162
But OP would play not watch.
>>343081367
Old streamers basically were persistent. Basically nobody around, people followed.
New streamers mostly by playing a new game that nobody else can which results in high views and then it's luck afterwards if anyone actually stays. See Hearthstone or Overwatch for a good example.
>>343063113
>I also remember Twitch restricting quality options for streamers unless you're famous. Dunno if they've changed it.
Twitch doesn't give source options to new streamers until they start streaming for awhile and have consistent viewership. It used to be restricted to people who had to be partners but I've seen unpartnered channels get source options.
Youtube gaming is better since you can stream at high or low bitrates and it has builtin source options. Twitch is outdated and they treat new streamers like complete peasants.
>>343082510
They have enough slots for quality options so if every partner is streaming they all can have quality options. When partners aren't streaming their slots go to the stream with the highest number of viewers and so on down the list.
>>343082164
Exactly what I said.
>>343082510

well yeah, twitch/amazon are going to shill it to get the max amount of money. i think the cost of viewership is going to be great, though. i already know plenty who have unsubbed/unfollowed the streamers who are using bits currently.
then we have people like spamfish who are ranting the entire stream about not being able to use it, but don't even factor in the cost of viewers. streamers don't seem to give 2 fucks about viewers. every argument i've heard is always pro-streamer, like they are the customers of twitch, and not viewers.
>>343073540
I like Dick but his smoking really makes me want to pick up a pack every time he streams. I haven't had one in like 4 years. The only other time I've ever had urges was when Spacey would smoke on House of Cards. I wish tobacco companies would just put out mini packs with like 2 or 3 cigs in them. Committing to a whole pack is such a bitch. I would end up having to put in the freezer to keep them from going stale.

>Youtube gaming is better since you can stream at high or low bitrates and it has builtin source options
>high or low
Really huge understatement there, twitch caps at 3500kbps, where as Youtube Gaming can go up at 10,000. The quality is not even comparable and the best part was that option was open to everyone, regardless of status.
>>343082637
Twitch can give every streamer quality options. They dont because they supposedly have to activate it on their channel instead of it begin default activated like on Hitbox or YTGaming. It's annoying as fuck when there are no quality options on someone you want to watch who is new or unpartnered.

Well streamers are basically customers of twitch also. They put money into the market just like viewers do. Or at least a lot do, I see a lot of streamers donate to bigger ones too get their name on that stream.
I agree on streamers no longer giving a fuck on reading chat or donations. I can understand from the bigger streamers perspective since that shit moves so fast but smaller ones are just not caring as much anymore.
Twitch is honestly sad how shill heavy it all is. I streamed for awhile but honestly I would rather do YouTube content over twitch. I may go back eventually and do a couple days worth but full time twitch just is shit and depressing.
You guys are being hard on twitch for no reason.
They probably glanced at the top streams one day and saw girls like this and decided they might as well chaturbate this shit up.
>>343083362

Why is this and being a "lonely dweeb" such a bad thing?

And they say being a girl is hard.
>>343085113Have you even tried?
>>343083010
Instead of giving money to some streamwhore that won't even take her cloths off, you might as well use the money to go to a strip club or have sex with a prostitute.
Giving money to streamwhores is the ultimate cuckery.
>>343080673
Casuals who browse the site looking for leaks will keep it afloat. The active user base is dropping off though. Funnily enough this change in dynamics is costing the site a ton of ad revenue.
>>343085113
hey man, keeping the weight off and finding a dude that doesn't treat you like dirt is "hard".

The fuck is the rationalization for this law you're mentioning?

Many cities have laws granting Comcast and AT&T exclusive rights to the wires and don't force them to share like the old days

What studies. I'm not sassing you or anything, this sounds like a genuinely interesting topic.

>you might as well use the money to go to a strip club or have sex with a prostitute.
yeah how about no, I actually respect women which is why I've had a gf and you cry yourself to sleep at night alone
>This entire fucking idea
So this is just going to cement the idea that if you participate in Twitch chat you're actually fucking braindead, right?

Now you too can pay $308 to donate to your favorite streamer and give Twitch a cut of that rather than just donating directly! Don't worry, you get a (DISPOSABLE) chat emote!

Fuck you.
>>343086676
Oh, that's even better. My bad.
I think subbing/donating to any streamer is a gigantic waste of money, but if you wanted to do it, giving Twitch a cut rather than doing it directly is heaping on the retardation

Youtube failed because it wasn't the first to successfully implement it, Twitch was.
so basically a case of too little, too late.
>>343089496
Oh know I see. Thanks for telling me.
This is a great move for Twitch, and I think it'll help more people donate as long as the donation alerts add it too. Mostly because some people don't like filling out a PayPal donation form, and it protects from the chargebacks that streamers were getting, although TwitchAlerts does this now by banning people who chargeback. Honestly 30% is a fine number to take considering the Streamer doesn't have to set up anything at all. As a viewer, I'd rather pay Twitch than PayPal.

I have a friend trying to become a streamer and he does it so wrong,
>streams 3 times max a week
>often time skips the days he is supposed to stream
>plays games that don't interest most people like Roblox and Agar.io
>streams fairly late like at 6pm or 8pm pst
At that point, people are going to be watching other people for the most part.
>>343085828
You don't respect strippers at all?

>>343090723

>that feel when want to be a youtuber because it's easier, but it's 10x harder to get a viewing crowd
Streaming sounds fun to do every once in awhile, but I just don't think I would have enough to say streaming 4-5 times a week for 3-5 hours at a time.
Especially at the start with no viewers.
>>343090865
I know. It's like if you want the kid crowd, play fucking Minecraft.
>>343090976
Know a guy with less than 5 viewers who made a patreon for his stream.

Where did it all go so wrong?
>>343090563
Nah man I don't donate at all, but Twitch was obviously leaking millions a year in revenue. I was surprised it took them this long to set up internal donations.
It was the most blatantly obvious move they could have made to get more revenue.
>>343058713
when you go to youtube.com there isn't a blindingly obvious place to view a stream
it should be on the main banner if they want traction
>>343077416
>>343077652
>>343077943
The last time I tried watching a streamer on twitch was this dude playing Dark Souls. He was cool for 5 minutes, and then he started doing the PDP gimmick
When you TALK LIKE this. And your VOICE GOES UP FOR NOW REASON... but sometimes goes super quiet and then OMG LOUD AGAIN!!!
Also "funny voices"
>>343091604
Even if you open up a stream on youtube.com you don't get sent to their Gaming site with the bigger chat and video. I feel like they aren't even trying to compete anymore.
>>343091502
Isn't this one of the bitches always spamming her channel on /v/?
She even has what's her face in the bottom right
>>343074441
>also, i don't understand how Summit got big in the first place
He got big by streaming CSGO when there was a huge demand for high skilled CSGO streams. Back in 2013 or perhaps early 2014 CSGO was growing rapidly but none of the actual pro players streamed regularly. And if there isn't a progamer streaming, you go to the next best thing available, a random Joe who's pretty good at the game.

She really isn't even cute and her tits are saggy.
>check out Youtube Gaming

this isn't average everyday failure. This is advanced failure. What can Google do?
>>343092292
>I think this girl is fat
She probably is. Just look at her face or tits. Either way I hate what Twitch has become. JTV was much better and I can't even remember if there were titty streamers. I also like how Twitch banned guys from streaming with their shirts off, but girls can still show their cleavage and act sexy in front of camera (dancing, leaning to show her butt and so on)
>Start twitching a modded Skyrim run
>Get banned for sexual conent
>Even though I never showed any sex or nudity other then a bare back
>>343092617
>JTV was much better
Agreed. Didn't the guy who own JTV, sell of the gaming/twitch part?
And then JTV bombed because no one cared about nongamers.
That's my friend's problem. People are there for the games first, and the person second when you are still starting.
However I do wonder what would happen if big streamers just sat at a black screen and replied to questions.
>>343092617
>I also like how Twitch banned guys from streaming with their shirts off, but girls can still show their cleavage
Didn't they ban "extreme" cleavage? Although we still see that.

Demolition_D+ and KawaiiPirahna are CUTE CUTE CUTE!!!
A company exists to make money and Twitch is no different. I don't really blame them for getting a cut of the donation pie themselves. It just comes across a bit shitty if they're really taking as much as 28% on the lower amounts and in return you get a badge that most people will probably disable in the future. I'm sure they'll expand on the perks in the future.

She started fucking with Kaceytron, Kacey is friends with twitch staff so they are quicker to respond.
there is something genuinely wrong with the quality of youtube's streaming
it likes to switch encoding methods to something with ridiculous artifacts if there's too many streams being watched
you'd think youtube would be on the ball with outgoing data capabilities, but no
>>343094413
That's pretty good. But kacey should also be banned desu.
>>343094526
True, Ive seen her roast other streamers and get away with it.
>>343094526
Kacey is fine cause she's ironic, like /v/sarcasm
>>343061914
Well, so far donations have been money that they don't control moving in their system. This had to happen eventually.
