>>
>>343056395
I'm assuming this is because the game is CPU dependant.

This shit happens to me all the time and it's so frustrating, it goes the other way too.

For some games I can turn the resolution up to 8k (downsampled) and get zero difference in FPS, but in other games I bump the resolution up to my native (1440p) and it drops from like 140fps to like 50.

What the fuck.

Man a lot of these problems would be fixed by DX12 since it can offload a lot of cpu heavy things to the GPU.

Good thing microsoft made that windows 10 only so that no publishers will agree to make full use of it and cut off the win8 and win7 markets.

That's what competent V Sync is for. If you have a 60hz monitor you absolutely have no need for 4000fps and decreased component lifetime.
>>
>>343058823
If you are playing shooters, having higher FPS even though your monitor can't support it is still better.

The only thing you get out of having a framerate higher than your monitor's with no V-sync is screen stearing, unless your framerate is an exact multiple of your refresh rate all the time.

Oh, I see. Yeah, it makes sense, although I'm not entirely wrong.
Basically you'll still get screen tearing, but one of the images composing your screen will be more recent if you're at a higher refresh rate.
I get it. I don't think it's so good though, you'll still get a fucked image.
>>
>>343059224
Actually it isn't, you do still reap the effects of a lowered input latency if you play at a framerate higher than the refresh rate of your monitor, however there is no visual effect, that requires the framerate and refresh rate to match.

Let's plays can be good in some situations

some games that never get translated can be enjoyed through a translated Let's Play

There are some games that are genuine shit in regards to gameplay, but have an interesting plotline or atmosphere. Like Drakengard or NieR.

Speedruns or special challenges can make it very interesting. Like playing Super Mario 64 with the least amount of A presses possible.

Which also leads to the game running like shit because most people have a great GPU but a shit CPU in the first place, or the game doesn't work with extra cores so having a great CPU is pointless

Bethesda games murder cpus because the base engine they use is still a million years old, despite what they may have claimed about FO4.
>>
>>343084896
Why is it that every new GPU and every new cutting-edge-graphics game focuses almost exclusively on showing off lighting and shadows? I think, from a programming perspective, it must be really goddamn hard to do and they still haven't gotten it to work right. Never mind that it's looked the same to the end user for like ten years.
>>
>>343084896

Shadows - especially for open world games - are often rendered even when off screen because of their effect on other objects that are within them and potentially on screen.

>>343085109

Moving shadows to gpu (as opposed to cpu) is a good thing as gpus are much, much better at the job.

Also the FPS would slowly become worse with playtime, as if there was a memory leak. Never happened before and I still have no idea what caused that.

welcome to the 90's and early 2000's

I used to use a trial version of a russian speed hacker back in 2003 that had its usage tied to the computer clock. Whenever the trial would end, I would just reset my time back a month. The computer clock would also count minutes in seconds and basically screwed up a lot of shit.

But damn, it was really fun to cheat in shitty MMO's and online games. Shame most of those hacking sites were seedy as shit and dont exist anymore.

That faggot is the devil though, salvation is through faith in SATAN.

Matthew 10:25

I, the master of the household, have been called the prince of demons

Jeremiah 8:8

'How can you say, "We are wise because we have the word of the LORD," when your teachers have twisted it by writing lies?

Worship Satan, it's fun and he's actually God.
And he allows for buttsecs.
Because his commandments are others and he is truly loving.

Ask him to save you, say it.

The difference is there, but I guess I just prefer the less smoother experience.
I can understand that most people don't, but I can't understand the rising uproar every time a game isn't capable of 60fps.
Unless it's an age thing; I've spent most of my life playing at 30 fps, so I couldn't care less now.
>>
>>343104417
I've spent most of my life playing on consoles so I don't have a lot of trouble tolerating 30 fps, but in an interactive medium like video games I don't see why you wouldn't want your games to be as responsive as possible.
I wonder how you would react to playing on a 144Hz screen.

>You can easily upgrade to a cheap as fuck model from a few generations ago and still be pretty "future proof"
Which models in particular do you recommend? Want to avoid accidentally buying one that has overheating/noise/whatever issues as I have read about some models

I do intend to upgrade, not just because OW, but because my card just can't keep up with the times (and it is showing its age)
Although I don't understand why OW has such requirements when it is not particularly impressive graphically speaking
>>

>>

The reason is because modern post processing really doesn't work well with MSAA.
FXAA and TXAA are stopgap measures specifically developed to give some form of Anti-Aliasing for modern game.
