I've been here for 8 years. That attitude actually arrived with the wave of teenagers who flocked to 4chan after finding out it was a super cool hangout for mad-as hackers. If I remember correctly, /b/ became unusable around 2011. /v/ gradually got worse and worse after that because /b/ was leaking edgelords all over 4chan.
