Parts 1&2, most of 3, and early on in 4 is when everything looks iconic and stylistic, but his anatomy was fucking terrible and characters like Josuke were overdesigned as fuck before his artstyle change.
But from then on when his artstyle changed, the anatomy and technical art skill improved but the style was lost. I hate the nose lines on everyone from parts 5+ and in the part 4 anime. Part 2 and 3's anime artstyles were fucking amzing, they just had to reduce the tire shoulders and BAM you have a perfect look.

When I first read JoJo years back I kind of rushed through (but still read all of) Parts 1 and 2 so that I could get to the good stuff (Part 3 onwards) which I really enjoyed.
I didn't watch the anime for a long time because I'd read the mango but caved in now that everyone's talking about it. To my surprise I enjoyed Parts 1 and 2 to a FAR larger extent than before. I thought they made fantastic use of color and were all around an audiovisual treat. Closing off with Roundabout also felt just so right.
After having a blast with the first season, I found myself not enjoying Stardust Crusaders as much, even though the opposite was true when I was reading the manga. The use of color isn't as good, it drags much more, and there aren't as many humorous moments (though the final fight arc was extremely well done). Even Diamond is Unbreakable's adaptation seems to lack a little something that the first season had.
I understand the disdain for animefags but I also totally see where they're coming from when they say Part 2 is the best. "Hamon is better than Stands" is badly worded and I don't agree, but I completely understand the intent of the statement.

Yeah, I'm glad Araki switched to a seinen magazine a bit into Part 7. Part 5 and 6 were pretty dark and heavy for something serialised in fucking Shonen Jump and even then you could tell Araki was holding back. He can write whatever fucked up shit he wants now but surprisingly his stuff doesn't come across as violent or sexual for the sake of it and it actually works for the tone and themes. Ah okay you got into it around the same time as me then. I thought the end of SBR was more exciting than the first two years of JJL for sure but I didn't feel the way I do about the different plot threads coming together or fraying in all different directions like I do with JJL. I guess it's just a preference thing. And the art took a dive in quality but after all the mad detail Araki put into SBR's art I think he reached a point where he had to go for a simpler artstyle given how old he's getting so it doesn't bother me that much. Although not so much towards the end given all hardcore shit that was going on, earlier on in SBR there were entire chapters where it feels like the story wasn't going anywhere and only served to extend the fights, and while there have been a few like that in JJL it seems to have been less and at least something noteworthy happens each chapter as well as having interesting confrontations like the beetle fight (even if that ran a little too long). Different strokes I guess. They're both excellent imo anyway.

Yeah I love all JoJo, I don't think JJL really took off until Beetlemania, and even then it only hit the heights of some of the best of JoJo when Kira was properly introduced.
I fucking love SBR though, from start to finish it is just amazing. I probably prefer the first half to the second.

The anime was really slow for Stardust. It's the most popular Part in Japan because of nostalgia but it's also one of the weakest. The second half is much better and after that it only gets better. It was meant to be super experimental and was mostly just the author trying things out. It's important for the rest of the Parts which are all much better so at least try to get through it. Yo should like some of the fights in the second season of Stardust at least. And Avdol coming back was the editors meddling, death is actually a bad thing in this series since once someone is actually dead they can't come back. Avdol coing back was probably the biggest copout in the series but after that point anyone who dies stays dead. There are a lot of fakeout deaths though, where it looks like someone died and then in the next chapter they come back but if someone actually dies then they're dead for good, and there are a lot of deaths in this series. Half the main crew in Stardust dies in the final quarter or so anyway.

You know, I feel the other way around, it seems to me like it doesn't have any of the issues I had with 7, especially regarding the characters. For one thing Araki seems to know for once what to do with his cast, which ones are important, and what motivates them to do the things they do.
Sandman, Wekapipo, HP and even Diego all appeared so much but ended up accomplishing nothing and really adding nothing to the story at the end of the day. Given how deadset he seems on being Josefumi now I can see him going to Josefumi's house like he was about to before Damo atacked and meeting with his family and finding out that they're actualy shit or something and going back to the Higashikatas and helping them out since he considers himself one of them or something. The main struggle has been about finding Josuke's identity which he finally settled on in this chapter so I think we're gonna get a shift towards a conflict between him and Jobin/Kaato soon when he decides to go back to them. Not going to lie, part 5 is my least favourite part. And most of that comes down to GioGio, he's so fucking uninteresting. I've enjoyed every other part immensely, but Gio Gio is so void of character that it makes the whole part boring.
See, my favourite JoJo is JotaroInb4 anime only fag/edgy, and while a lot of people say he's the most boring JoJo I just don't get it. Part 3 is hype as fuck, and Jotaro did it all with a stand with no stupid gimmicks, just raw strength. At least until the end anyway.
