Old Subnautica thread died
you made a base in the Jellyfish biome, right?
Reminder that the crabsquid is the most horrifying thing in the game

I have a base near the jellyfish biome overlooking a big glowing pit
GUYS MY BASE HULL BROKE AND IT'S FLOODING WHAT DO I DO?
For the love of god, I need silver. I found a few pieces before, but now I can't find shit.
>>343028326
If it started happening after you built something, deconstruct that thing, then go around with a welder and fix the holes

That's the least gruesome end.
>>343028350
look around for sandstone

why's this game blowing up all of the sudden?
one of my only real fears in life is the open ocean. For the first two hours of the game I was unable to leave the shallows and kelp forests. fucking hell
here's my base so far. How hard is it to find the seamoth blueprints? I can't find the parts anywhere in the grassy areas
>>343028326
weld it shut and make sure your hull integrity isn't too low. you will see a warning if it is

>>343028452
I have no idea, but the game is actually really fun, so I guess it's not going to waste.
>>343028410
Ok, so I removed the bit I added on.
What's a fix to this next time? More of those blast door things that I'm forgetting the name of right now?
WHERE DO I FIND THE ALUMINUM OXIDE CRYSTAL FROM THE ESCAPE POD AAAAAAAAAH
How do I build a Sea moth? Where do I get the damn fragments? I don't want to be scared of moving at night anymore...
wait, all you people are playing this on VR?
>>343028586
bulkheads, reinforcements and foundations all raise your hull integrity.
also, the deeper you build the lower it will be
>game keeps on crashing
fuck me boys.
>cant cook Sand Sharks
Fuck
Just started building a base, what's the first thing I should start working on?
Also, what's the best way of powering this thing, and how do I get air in it?
>>343029027
>you will never feast on reaper steaks
>>343029091
Once you start powering your base it'll automatically get air. No extras needed. As for power, solar panels should keep you going for a little while
>>343029091
Make a fucking tank to put peepers and airsacks in. Holy hell having those resources there is so good
>>343029362
Tank like aquarium, or tank like >>343028519 's?
>>343029091
as soon as you get power, you get air. Solar panels are the easiest and less spacious way. Just stick two or three on your base and you should be fine as long as you don't craft too much during the night.
Build an alien containment tank and put air sacks and a good food fish (hoverfish, hoopfish)
you can also plant stuff in the tanks. keep in mind that Creepvine only grows to full size if you stack two containment tanks
Why are these gasopods so tiny?
What should I do with them?
>>343029091
I'd probably want a replicator, a couple of storage closets, 3 solar panels,
about 10 platforms, 3 all purpose rooms and 2 window corridors and a port.
so you need
72 titanium
22 Quartz
2 gold
3 silver
2 coral samples
>>343029980
the larger creatures are small when inside your tanks
Is there any downside to using the indoor planters in your base? Because I'm rolling in so much lantern fruit right now.
>>343030109
last time I picked them up they still took up a big size in my inventory
did they change that?

Reaper leviathans spawn around the Aurora, Anon. Sometimes they can spawn in packs of 2 or 3.
>>343031236
All you need to know is that there is always something big and moving just outside your view.
As a guy who gets scared shitless when playing fallout and having to go into water, how high is this on the spook meter.
was there always a second blood kelp zone?
Anyone else having some debri floating above the ocean?

Got the game today. Only about two hours of work put in to it. Repaired the escape pod. Built a scanner, welder, knife, rad suit, fins, tank and a bunch of repair lockers. Made sure to get a good food and disinfected water supply. Feel like I've accomplished nothing.
Next time I play I'm going to put rainy mood on and listen to it rain and thunder while swimming around underwater.
>>343031350
there are several places where the water is so deep that you can't see anything but the surface and the darkness belowbut you can still hear the creatures around you
>>343031250

>>343031568
did you jump on a fucking bird?
If you guys are wondering how reaper's are appearing in shallow waters I think I might of found the answer to this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZaIs0MXcefw
I fucking love this game, shit like this happens 10 hours in when I decide to see what a reaper looks like in person.
>>343031515
All you can do is try to dodge them or run away. They tend to circle around you before they charge after you. I remember when I was out in the sandy expanses and had one of them spawn on top of me. I ended up ramming my seamoth into a coral tube and waiting until it had despawned to come out.
>>343031515
Hit the throttle at fullspeed. They are fast enough to catch you but you should be able to get out with only a hit or two before you duck in a hole and hide. Throwing torpedos at them might discourage them or if you are good with the statis rifle, you can headshot them to freeze them and run.
>your guy actually puts his hands out to dive when you jump from something
neat
Are reapers aggressive in creative?
>>343031417
anyone? i don't remember it
>>343030569
I thought I managed to slip in and out without encountering one until on the way back one spawned in the sand right in front of me. I sped away so I assume it was stuck back there. Fucking broke ass game.
Did get some chargers going and start setting up a little cabin though so I'm starting to settle in. Last time I played this was before they added the battery chargers and I gotta say this is a much better experience.
Is this game supposed to run like shit?
I JUST FELL THROUGH THE HATCH IN MY BASE AND IM WALKING AROUND THE SEAFLOOR WITHOUT USING AIR
I CANT GET BACK INTO ANYTHING AND GETTING ONTO LAND DIDNT FIX IT

A lot of people seem to be saying similar things. I still think you're a bunch of cowards. Granted, I scuba dive for a living so it's hard to really say I'm unbiased.

>>343032030
This just crashed my game.
>>343032091You're not safe in the shallows >>343031683 can happen at any given time and your safe shallows will become a reaper haven.
Alright, pro-tip. Get your scanner asap. Then travel south of the ships engines until you find the island. Scan everything you can find, but especially the indoor planters. Grab some fruit on the island(im using lantern fruit atm). Now go back to your base, build a few planters, plant some fruit, and don't worry about food or water again. Dunno about the other fruit, but lantern fruit adds to hunger and thirst, and seems to be growing pretty fast.
>>343032027
>Where are the Cyclops blueprints???
I found a bunch of parts around the Mushroom forest
I'm glad reapers don't attack the cyclops. Makes exploring comfortable.
>>343032204
Why is that?
>>343032150
>scuba dive for a living
What job is that? It sounds comfy as fuck
we need more mid level baddies
more huge guys is nice but more large but not mega huge enemies would be nice
like slightly smaller than reapers
that or I'd like a wandering giant that patrols a huge span of the map and fucks up your base occasionally.
>>343031845
YOU WAIT ONE NIGGERING SECOND
WHEN DID THEY ADD FURNITURE?
I haven't played this game in a while but this changes fucking everything if that's already implemented.
I have super autism for games that let me do interior design stuff. As much as I loathe the term 'comfy' as a descriptor for a game, it's just the most comfortable shit in the world to create a little safe haven for yourself and style it to suit your tastes.
>>343032410
They will be removing terraforming. I don't know the technical parlance to explain properly why that will improve performance, but it's just less shit that the game has to deal with.
>>343031964
Is there anything on land?
Considering making a "how to build a cyclops within the first hour of a new game" video for noobs.

My base is above water
Im gonna make a base in the jelly cave next
>>343032579
alright but part locations are semi-random
you just have to explore and they are easy to find
why do people play this then never leave the shallows to explore?
How do I make a base above water?
>>343032438
Miscellanious. I live on Lake Superior. Hauling up Trucks/Ice Houses/Snowmobiles that go through the ice.
Teaching others how to Scuba.
Working with the local aquarium to clean/feed tanks.
My technical "job title" is Scuba Specialist for the town of Superior and townships therein.
tl;dr I'm a city worker who's scuba certified and does whatever the city tells me to do when they're too big of pussies to get in the lake
>>343032542
Hope so. I'm tempted to just refund it for now.
I won't be upgrading my rig anytime soon and this is unplayable.
>>343032451
you have to find furniture and scan it, you don't start with any
I like this though, it rewards exploring
>>343032675
Because they don't want to die and outside of a crash oiling that asshole up the shallows is generally a safe place.
>>343032579

I don't usually react to jump scares but holy shit
>>343032802
No, just the suicidal maniac that jumps into 34 degree water and only has a rope for an means of living to the next day.
I have to go under the 2 foot thick ice sheet and hook chains onto whatever the fuck I'm hauling. If you can't find the hole you're supposed to surface in, you drown.
At least it pays well.
honestly this location is pretty comfy and gives good access to the south of the map
>>343028519
how do you get kelp with the glowing seeds?

How shit does your computer have to be to not run this game at at least playable fps? I have a FX 8350 and a GTX 760 and I run around 45 fps average with frame drops into the 20s when it's loading biomes. It's not great but it's at least playable and I assume it'll go up a lot after they remove terraforming

>>343033071
the tank has to be two rooms high or else the plant stops growing at 50%

>>343033679

>>343034728
To be fair, this game doesn't really make you feel how deep you're going very well.
You'll sometimes only go down 30 metres to get a piece of copper but that's VERY deep for most normal divers IRL.
Specially trained divers can only stay around 300 ft down at length and that's with specialty equipment.
>tiger plant cave

Are there tons that i'm going to see new stuff all the time, or will I have seen everything quickly? This is the type of game for me that needs shit loads of variety in creature types to stay interesting.
this is odd. I've created about four saves so far (just started playing). Now, resources aren't respawning and I can't find any creature eggs or vehicle parts. I haven't seen any sand sharks, biters and several other creatures I saw in my first saves. Stalkers have disappeared as well.

Let me ask a very important question.
How many creatures that can instantly kill you does this fucking game need? What's the point of things like the Sea Dragon and Sea Emperor? They're just adding big, poorly designed, likely instantly-lethal shit to the game. You'll see them once or twice and then they'll just be a big nuisance.
>>343028452
Personally got interested a while back, bu game was early access and looked too bare-boned.
Saw it on the Steam sale and looked up a few things. The devs seem like total bros who are updating the game regularly. It's already a LOT more advanced from when I first saw it, so decided to buy it.
Who does this game have no icon or anything on my taskbar like any other currently open program? I can only alt-tab to it

>>343048287
I agree. I'd like to see something unique. The Reapers, Sea Dragons and Sea Emperor all have the same basic shape, it'd be neat to see a giant crab or squid or something. All the small creatures have really unique designs but they dropped the ball on the ones that are actually supposed to be scary, Reaper Leviathans look like the fucking Crimson Chin.

I used it to ferry a fuckton of supplies to a faraway biome so I could work on a new base. It's invincible to anything except crush depth and you can fill it up with storage, so that's its main use. >>343050042
>>343050156
Find the nuclear blueprint and build one. Then go to the grand reef or whatever it's called and pick up as much urine crystals as you can hold and make rods out of them. The rods last for ages and you only need to check the reactor every now and then to see if one needs replacing.
test
>>343050156
Don't build bioreactor unless you want to bother having to recharge it.
Just find a thermal vent (should be some deep where you are right now) and put a reactor next to it.

>>343052516
It's probably just a bug.
I'm about 13 hours in and it's still there. And you'll have a base making the escape pod redudant at that point
>>343026787
>tfw framerate is perfectly 60 when sitting still and not looking around
>tfw massive pop-in that drops fps to sub-10s when moving or looking around
>>343052970
I cannot imagine how this game could be playable on a VR headset. Seems a good way to projectile vomit
Postan my moth
>>343053209
I have the moon pool, but what do you need to customize the Moth like that?
>>343044525
>he doesn't know
Try to bring the Swim Charge Fins along with your Sea Glider next time :)
>>343052653
Where do you respawn without a pod?
>>343053385
Seamoth modification station. It goes right on one of the ends of the moon pool. Took me forever to find it in my game for some reason.
>>343044525
Agreed. The Glider runs out of charge faster than my local McDonalds runs out of fucking ice cream
>>343035842
Build another fucking crater, you dipshit.
How is everyone's bases coming along? This is mine, which is close to the Life Pod and near the Kelp Forest. I plan on making a new base further out, at least 3KM away.
I also have a bunch of Scanner Rooms scattered around, mainly to scan for Quartz, Magnetites and Diamonds.
>>343053690
TOO BIG.
>Stress simulator
pretty sure i just payed money to kill myself from some kind of heart failure
and i didnt even get a tasty bigmac out of the deal
>>343053209
Great minds think alike, anon
>>343053690
How the fuck do you power that shit? My base is only made up of 4 rooms and 1 moon pool and I still run out of fucking power
Where does the game save screenshots when you press F11?
I just bought it, i haven't played it since it was first introduced to early access.
What did they add since then?
>>343053936
save it to steam. Easier to find than digging into your program files
Why are there only loot and fish near spawn?
When I go exploring nothing seems to be around. No quarts, no fish, no nothing...
Can't find last seamoth fragment and im wondering if my game is glitched.
>>343053448
In your base duh.
>>343042362
It was pretty scary in the beginning, I must admit. Seeing a Reaper poke his head out of the shadows for the first time, with it's roar, literally made me gasp and panic back to my base.
Getting lost in some underground cavern over 900m deep with my seamoth was fucking intense. Couldn't find the exit and everywhere was roofed. Crazy.
But for the rest, it's really comfy. Having the electricity upgrade for the seamoth helps tremendously, too. You don't feel defenseless anymore. Which is both good and bad for the game.
>>343054019
I don't have the game on steam
I actually had a reaper leviathan pop in in front of my face so close my entire screen was covered by it's face. I gasped so hard it scared my girlfriend in the back of the room. I managed to dodge it's attack and get in a place it couldn't get to before swimming away. Probably the most I've ever been startled by a game. Nothing creeps me out more than being at the surface of the water though looking out over the distance, I always have this paranoid feeling something is under me.
WHERE THE HELL CAN I FIND THE LAST SEAMOTH FRAGMENT
WHAT THE FUCK I LOOKED EVERYWHERE
>bought this game almost day one due to recommendation
>barely any threads about it
>this sale hits in
>almost daily thread on /v/ about it
Is this what joy feels like?
>>343054694
They're in the red grasses right?
Basically the areas right outside the vine jungle areas
>tfw cave crawler
FUCK ME AND MY ARACHNOPHOBIA
>>343053809
It has 4 Bioreactors using mostly Sandsharks as fuel (or Floaters, if I don't have any Sandsharks left), 12 solar panels outside and 4 Thermal Plants linked to a volcano near the Aurora wreckage.
There's also a Nuclear Reactor but I've stopped using it after the Reactor Rods ran out of juice so quickly. I felt that the Bio Reactors are a lot more reliable and have a long-term usage.
I've 5 Water Filtration Machines working all the time, as well. There were some spotlights but I took them off because of high power usage.
But sometimes the power gets bugged and it goes down to around 300 (maximum of 1800) when I come back to the base after a while.
On this screenshot, notice the big 5-story part of the base. That is where all the Reactors are located inside. One on each floor.
More eggs when? I must complete my ultimate aquarium.
what is that
>>343055782
Go on up and get a good look at it, I'm sure it's friendly.
>>343054756
I cannot find it.
I have 4/5.
Can it be inside a wreck?
>tfw you spend an hour finishing your base and have it almost done and then the game crashes
>>343056640
You need to go deeper.
>>343053690
Scanner rooms remove creature sounds right?
>>343057036
I found it!
The last fragment didn't look like the others.
FUCK YES.
Now where can I find battery charger fragments?
Or how do I power up my seamoth efficiently?
>>343057354
Find the moonpool fragments, once you hook the Seamoth up with it it'll directly charge it from your base's power and you won't have to worry about energy.
Can someone explain to me how to find the sea traders? I cannot find that goddamn biome. My sub and seamoth can both go 900m so that's not the issue here.
Also on a side note I think it's really interesting that the game has an effect on me mentally. By that I mean the fear of dark/water. It seems to be getting less worse.
When I first started playing the kelp forest was fucking spoopy. And the aurora made me shit my pants. Now that I kinda know my way around these areas dont frighten me anymore.
The one thing that does still scare shit out of me is that really dark DEEP areas. I think it's due to the fact you don't know what's coming and when it's coming.
Maybe I will get more comfortable in these locations as I progress. Also I don't think any game has instilled this much fear in me ever, I think that's really interesting.
>>343057604
Go southwest, the Sea Treaders go back and forth in the Sea Treader's path, you'll know it when you see it, it's basically a large udnerwater road. Some part of it is at the very edge of the map to help you.
>Decide to make a new base
>Take an inventory full of titanite, glass, quartz and some lubricant
>Trying out bio engines because too deep for solar and don't have any alternatives yet
>After five trips because I kept running out of stuff/forgetting stuff my base is finished
>No power
>Three bio engines was not enough to power one water filtration unit and two rooms
>Remove the filter
>Takes ten minutes to reach 100 energy
They may last for ages but holy shit these things are bad
I know letsplayers are cancer and I should kill myself RIGHT NOW, but what are good and comfy Subnautica LPs?
I can't run the damn thing on my toaster laptop and an upgrade is well beyond my capabilities at the moment, but I still want to see what does Subnautica has to offer.
I've been watchingVinny's streams for a bit, but he's slow as shit and I'd like to watch someone who has progressed significantly further into the game.
>>343026787
I tried and for some reason, no matter what I did, the damn base refused to get powered up.
>>343055782
It's a sea strider, completely friendly
>>343058460
You know Sips from the Yogscast? His is pretty comfy.
>>343057265
I have no idea.
>>343055782
It might whack you with it's long nose thingy. I found it during creative and I can't get damage, so I don't know if it actually hurts you or if it just bumped into me.
>>343058613
I kind of assumed anything Yogscast related shouldn't be touched with a 5 foot stick, but sure, thanks, I'd give it a try.
>>343057853
What depth should I be aiming for? I think I might be going to deep or to shallow. I ended up in the fucking abyss trying to find this biome. It wasn't fun.
Also: swim charge fins or ultra speed fins?
>>343058941
Between 300-500 meters, I guess?
Swim charges fins are now redundant with the battery charger.
>>343058460
I like Splattercat. Some might find him too chatty though.
>>343043230
one thing.FUCKTHAT
>>343058460
Start vinny's lp but on episode 7
It's a newer build so he reatarted and he has more of an idea of what he's doing
>>343058941
Swim charge + glider = unlimited speed
Sad that the game performs so poorly on my computer, going to have to refund it.
>>343058941
If you like using the Sea Glider, I'm sure you will enjoy the Swim Charge Fins very much. But don't tell anyone else :)
>>343026787
are there still only 5 fucking quickslots? what the fuck subnautica devs.
have they ever explained why they think its a good idea you need to switch stuff in your inventory constantly?
>>343057604
What do you even need the treaders for
But otherwise go to the floater island and go straight down from under it
>No co-op

>>343059026
Oh, nice! Started watching episode 1 from his Power Nap playthrough, and right off the bat he says he studied oceanography. That's interesting, not something you'd hear so often in a fucking letsplay. I'm now kind of curious as to what his impressions are in this context. Thanks!
>Tfw knifing everything to death
I'm may be playing wrong but it feels so right
>>343059557
When I'm on a resource and exploring run? duh
Don't you schedule your expeditions?
I bet you just haphazardly do whatever you feel at the moment
I dont remember stalkers being this fucking annoying
Goddamn. Fucking. Stalkerteeth.
Why can't I just wrassle them down and cut their whole mouth out like the chick in that one log?
>>343059874
>Not making small storage building so you can keep all of an areas resources in one place and move it back to your main base over multiple quick trips

I wish killing things you know, did something. Shark fillets, Stalker teeth, I know the lore is meant to be low-environmental-impact, but fuck that!
>>343059202
I just want to explore and see everything pretty much.
>>343059363
They're fleeing fromyou
Also post more bases. I'm interested in seeing what people can come up with. My base is pretty shitty so I'm trying to at least make the inside look nice. Any tips for improving on this?
>seamoth doesn't have arm attachments so that it can break and collect ore without having to get out

The Exosuit does.

This is my room. I wish I had more stuff to put in there.
>>343060719
Whoa where did you find all that? Specifically what is that machine on the left side of the door entrance?

https://trello.com/b/yxoJrFgP/subnautica-development
>>343028452
I pirated it, then bought it and have since started 2 threads about it since the steam sale.
so there's that accounted for.
Why does everything looks so small?
The reaper is like 10x the player and it looks 2x tops.
>>343060983
We just need to have hope, fellow aquariumbro.
>>343059074
ffs anon say Vinesauce, it's not like you know him personally
>>343060473
>that map
Is that a picture frame? Fantastic use, I may copy that.
Also, does the lifepod still drifts away on the newest patch?
>>343039328
you have google you fucking troglodyte, you don't need an online imageboard to help you through everything.
Have you harnessed the power of the sun yet?
>>343061650
Vinesauce is more than just Vinny. But only Vinny is playing Subnautica on stream.
>>343061673
Yeah, here you go:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/56777267/Signatures/map.jpg
To be fair I wasn't smart enough to think of this myself. Found it on steam.
>>343061442
Because you're looking at it from a distance, you pussy.
>>343060835
Those are all things I've found on wreckages. I don't remember exactly where which one was found. Just keep an out for big wreckages on the sea floor.
The two things on top of my desk are two kinds of Lab Equipments. They have the same name, but one has drinking glasses on it.
The thing on the wall is a Coffee Vending Machine.
The poster was on a wreckage near the Aurora. It's easy to find.
Lab Trash Can was also on a wreckage. You have to scan it first. There is also another kind of Trash Can, a big yellow one.
The bench was scannable on wreckages, as the same with the table, desk, chairs and planters.
The luggage bags were on one of the wreckages near the Aurora. They aren't always there, so keep coming back until they spawn.
And here is an updated look at my run, because I was somewhat jealous of the other person who posted theirs.
Look at my ugly base. What would be a good location for a second base? There's a vulcano near the mushroom forest that looks interesting. But I might have to go deeper. The darkness still creeps me the fuck out though.
>>343028672
where is this
I thought it's nyi
>>343062164
Keep going south until you find a large, flat, sandy area, it's great for not paying attention to your surrounding while you build a base
>>343062164
if you wanna be the coolest kid on the block, you need to build near/on this fucking thing
can i run the game?
>>343062942
not without massive fps drop when moving because of slow hard disk access and slow RAM
>>343062441
I've found a pretty comfy place to build a base.
on the edge of 3 biomes, with a hole directly adjacent down to the mushroom caves.

Push against your fears. Nothing that happens can harm you in real life, and you might get over your fear while playing.
>>343063463
No, thanks. I would prefer to live in a base, not in a labyrinth.
Would be cool if you could get like a coordanites tracker and put it somewhere on your cyclops cock pit.

how did you get rid of the glare off your cyclops window?
