I expect something along the lines of 5 different types of pole arms that all work with the spear moveset. 5-10 different types of swords that all work on the sword move set.

Glad that the most recent trailer showed off a lot of new enemy types. While this game is really more about the bosses, you spend a lot more time running around the levels, and fighting the same bandits, oni, ghouls, ect. got boring pretty fast. The second stage of the demo had pretty good diversity, with the addition of the cyclops and the ninjas, but still relied on the same enemies from the previous level.
One thing I hope TN fixes is unarmed in this game. Unarmed literally only works against other humans. Ghouls, who can die in a single hit by level 30, still take many, many hits from an unarmed person at that level. Against humans, unarmed players have an instant kill move. I'd like something similar to that for other enemy types. Maybe not instant kill, but a counter that deals damage.
I felt that in the demo, unarmed combat was more for draining the enemy's stamina faster, as kicking an enemy, particularly the oni, causes them to deplete their stamina really fast, allowing you to combo on them. This is a good concept, but a damage boost or some special techniques with fists is required to make this concept truly work.

Combat is nothing like souls really. I can't think of a comparable game that has been released yet. Are you following For Honor? I feel like the combat is closer to that, from what we've seen with videos anyway. Everything else in this game -- level design, difficulty, save and level up system -- is very, very souls-like.

No. I feel the same way, and so do many of my friends. We were all excited for FFXV, but this has turned into our most hyped game of the year after this game's demo was a 10/10 and FFXV's demo was a 0/10.

This version of the game only started development during the last few years. The original incarnation of the game (Back when it was developed internally by Koei) was a kind of hybrid SPRG and mosou, but was scrapped since they just couldn't get it to gel properly. The second version of the game, which had started developed by Team Ninja after the KT merger, was scrapped after Kou Shibusawa deemed it was too similar to Ninja Gaiden.
On this incarnation of the game, they've cited Demon's Souls, Onimusha 2 and Diablo as core influences. There's also a lot of residual Ninja Gaiden in there, but also some Way of the Samurai, Bushido Blade and even Genji.

No, the original protagonist of the game back when it was based on Kurosawa's Oni script was a mixed-race Eurasian actually named Oni.
The current protagonist is a fictionalized version of the real-life William Adams, which only started when Team Ninja took over the project in the late '00s.

Ieyasu is very possible, considering Willy Adams is the hero. Also Hattori Hanzo is there, Tachibana Muneshige is a boss fight and his wife Tachibana Ginchiyo was in the E3 trailer.

When I get my Japanese visa, I am moving to Tokyo to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an animator for Studio Ghibli or a game designer!
I own several kimonos, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Japan, so I can fit in easier. I bow to my elders and seniors and speak Japanese as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.
